Quietrain was lumbering slowly towards the apprentices den. His belly was full, but at it still tug annoyance. His duty for the day was to take the apprentices out hunting, a meaningless task in his opinion. The light-gray warrior poked his head inside the den. Inside was warm, contrasting the humid and brisk air outside that tasted of approaching storms. "Darkpaw, Mosspaw, wake up. We're going out hunting." he mewed unenthusiastically.

Mosspaw awoke instantly, her green eyes now trained on the warrior's looming form. "Ok," She meowed simply, standing up and giving her pelt a brief shake. The bicolor she-cat quickly weaved her way through the sleeping bodies of her denmates and stepped out of the den. Once she was out in the open she gave her flank a few licks to rid it of stray moss pieces.

Darkpaw's eyes fluttered open at the sound of a warrior calling her name. Blinking the sleep out of her eyes, the white faced she-cat shifted herself into a sitting position and shook out her fur. "Alright." she yawned arching her back and stretching. Darkpaw glanced at her sister, Mosspaw, and then at her fur, making a face of detest at the state of her matted fur. The black furred apprentice gave it a few hurried licks, before departing the den.

Quietrain drew back, allowing the two young she-cats to pass by him and outside of the den. The warrior awaited for them to get ready before he stepped back towards them, having secluded himself to a more distant spot. "Let's head out, then." he mewed and flicked his tail, turning around and leading the two sisters outside of camp. Trotting lightly, he stayed aware of their surroundings, parting his jaws to scent the air for prey.

Mosspaw hastily trotted after the warrior and proceeded to stay close, looking warily at her surroundings. It wasn't her first time out of camp, but still...being here made her anxious, and she never understood why. "It's probably an apprentice thing or something," She concluded before dismissing the thought. The feeling would probably fade when she became older, perhaps a warrior if it required all that time.

The black and white she-cat looked up Quietrain and noticed the tom's concentrated expression. She blinked, studying him for a few moments. "Am I supposed to do that, too?" She opened her maw and breathed in, nearly choking at all the scents. She wasn't playing close attention to them before, and now that they were very apparent, it was slightly overwhelming. Still, if this was what she was supposed to be doing... Mosspaw glanced over at her sister, to see what she was doing. Maybe that would help her decide on what to do.

Darkpaw trotted out of camp with the others, flicking her tail enthusiastically. It was nice for Darkpaw to see the territories when the sun was at its highest, she usually trained before dawn with her mentor. The black she-cat's ears flickered back and forth, listening for the slightest rustles or the snap of a twig. The apprentice treaded more carefully the deeper into the territories they went, she didn't want to scare away any potential food.

Darkpaw snorted slightly when Mosspaw became overwhelmed with the scents of the forest. With a smile, the white faced apprentice bounded closer to her sister. Darkpaw nodded and opened her maw to better scent the area, like Pantherblaze had taught her. The she-cat was more use to it than her sister, but she was still amazed she could smell all of those scents as well.

Quietrain payed little attention to the two young cats that were tagging along once they had all left camp. He made sure now and then that they were following, casting cold, serious glances in their direction to make sure they weren't needlessly goofing around. The light-gray warrior stopped after a while in his tracks, scenting the air with a frown. There was a thrush nearby, and the more aware he became, the easier it was to hear the tapping sound made by its feet as it bounced about. Crouching, he drew nearer, using the experience he had gained over his moons of training, and when he was close enough, shot forward, claws outstretched. Having sensed him, the bird was quick to evade his grasp and fluttered away, settling on the upper branches of a tree above, mocking the warrior with its tweeting.

"Foxdung." he swore under his breath.

Mosspaw gave Darkpaw a friendly nudge, her eyes shining as her sister expressed what they had to do. "Makes sense. Quietrain doing it should've been your first hint," She thought to herself as she opened her maw to sniff for prey again. Instead of scouting for potential soon-to-be fresh kill, the black and white she-cat was momentarily distracted by Quietrain's hunting skill. She observed as he attempted to catch a thrush, but still managed to fail. 

Doubt immediately seized her. If Quietrain couldn't do it, why would she? Glancing back towards her sister, Mosspaw gulped and crouched low, beginning to follow a scent that appeared to be nearby. She moved as slow as possible as she neared the base of a tree, where a furry creature seemed to be feasting on nuts. Inhaling slowly, she leaped over, attempting to mimic Quietrain, with her claws unsheathed. The next thing she knew, the squirrel was wriggling in her grasp, wanting to escape. 

Quickly, she finished it off with a killing bite, and looked towards the warrior for approval.

Darkpaw watched as her sister and Quietrain attempted to catch prey, feeling a sense of pride when her sister grabbed the squirrel. Eagerly she bounced forward, her tail held high. "Good catch!" she purred nudging her sister. The black furred she cat glanced at Quietrain happily, but she quickly realised she was suppose to be hunting and turned all her senses back to the task at hand.
Whiskers twitching and ears listening, Darkpaw scouted for prey. It frustrated her that she couldn't seem to find any prey, yet the others could. How stupid must she look. Angrily the apprentice concentrated even harder on scenting out prey.

It was just a small rustle in a nearby bush, but Darkpaw's ears perked right up, swivelling round to pinpoint the animal. The she-cat opened her maw slightly, allowing her to smell better. It took her a few moments, but she managed to identify the animal as a mouse. Upon instinct, Darkpaw crept towards the bush, Every muscle tense and every sense hightened. She stepped forward lightly, each pawstep careful and calculated. Darkpaw was just a tail-length away, getting closer with each step. Her tail twitched eagerly, anticipating the mouse's next move. The white faced cat was easily close enough to catch the tiny rodent. She tensed up her legs building up energy for the pounce, then quickly sprang forwards, catching the mouse in her black paws. Darkpaw glanced at the squirming creature, before finishing it with a killing bite.
