Wonderful Redundancies [Closed]

BOOM.

SkyClan's newest warrior trembled in fear as she sat for her vigil. A thunderstorm shook the forest with its cracks of bright lighting and bellowing thunder. Firflower, being deaf, wasn't the first cat to be scared by its roars, but she was arguably the most terrified. Her pale blue eyes were as wide as the night sky. The noise jolted her very being; quite literally. With every crack and rumble she felt her heart tremble and shake. What was she supposed to do? She couldn't move from her place by SkyClan's camp entrance even if she wanted to. She couldn't call out to someone, it being a silent vigil and all, and of course, she could barely speak in the first place! The peach-splashed warrior sat straight and tried to focus on the sights and smells of the forest at night, but every bright flash had her anxiously anticipating the CRACK that was to follow. Why tonight of all nights? Her claws dug into the needle-strewn ground. All she had to do was wait and focus until morning came. That was it. Her tail started to lash as the thunder and lighting seemed to become more frequent. How long was it until morning anyway? She couldn't see the moon, and clouds covered the eastern horizon.

Rain began to fall. At first it came softly, gently, but then the drops turned heavier and soon she was forced to seek shelter beneath a wide-boughed pine. It was almost hailing. 'Please, please StarClan, let morning come quickly.' Her ears lay pinned against her head as she kept her watch. Another CRASH caught her off-guard, making the warrior jump in alarm.

Cloudroar was awoken suddenly by a loud crack of thunder overhead. He let his fur lay flat as the panic of a threat was pushed away. It was just a storm. Not some horrible terror come to slaughter his clanmates. With a deep sigh of relief, his worry began pricking at him again. Firflower was sitting vigil tonight. The kind she-cat was probably terrified. With a shake of his cloudy white pelt, he exited the den and approached the familiar scent of the newly-named warrior. His expert nose could detect the tell-tale scent of fear wafting off the she-cat and his blind eyes softened with sympathy for the cat. He let his pawsteps land more heavily so she wouldn't be frightened at his sudden appearance before he finally came to rest at her side. He let his large body and fluffy fur blanket her in an embrace that he hoped was comforting. His tail soon wrapped around her shoulders, as well, drawing her closer to him. "It's just a storm, Firflower. You're alright." His voice rumbled deep in his chest, though he was sure she had no idea what he was saying, he hoped the vibrations of his purring were just as warm and comforting as his words had been. He didn't expect any words back. Not just because she wasn't the best talker, but because this was her vigil.

Upon feeling softer vibrations through her paws, Firflower opened her maw to taste the air. For a moment she could only detect the faint metallic scent left behind by the lightning and the rain-soaked forest. Ah, but there was a cat scent coming from behind her. She turned her head slightly to see Cloudroar approaching her. What was he out here for? 'Did the thunder wake him?' Confusion spread across her face as he came closer. The sudden warmth and a soft rumbling at her side was not expected, to say the least. But it was... soothing. She pressed into Cloudroar in kind with a thankful purr. The thunder and lightning was still terror-inducing, and yet, with him by her, the tremors did not shake so deep. There was a quiet part of her that wanted to fall asleep like this. In fact, her eyes seemed to shut for a moment before she remembered why she was out here in the first place. 'My vigil! Right!' Her blue gaze returned to scanning the dark forest floor, and she was somehow able to focus on her task better than before.
