Lionpaw’s Assessment

Scorchfang had deemed Lionpaw ready to begin his hunting assessment after much training and practice. He was very excited to see how his firstborn would do on his own. He had asked the apprentice to meet him by the outskirts of the deep marshes to begin the assessment.

(OOC: Short and crappy, sorry. XD)

Lionpaw got up early, unable to sleep properly because of being eager, this time he would catch something for sure and make his father proud.

He got out of the camp, and ran up to the older cat, purring in greeting -Morning dad-

”Hey, someone’s eager to become a warrior,” Scorchfang teased affectionately, nuzzling between his son’s ears. ”Alright, so here’s how the assessment will work: today, you will hunt for a frog at Deep Marshes, a mouse near the Carrionplace, a lizard by the Thunferpath, and for extra credit a rabbit — but if you can’t find a rabbit I’ll understand. I’ll keep watch to observe your progress, but don’t come looking for me, okay? Just focus on your assessment. Oh, and if you encounter a predator I’ll be there to help you, okay?” With another nuzzle, he purred. ”Alright, go give it your best shot!”

(OOC: Now you can double-post until you’ve caught all the prey or encounter a predator. And you must use the hunting dice for each catch.)

Lionpaw nuzzled back, purring, then listened carefully to the instructions, and at the end, he nodded -Alright, i´ll get going now- he starts walking off -wish me luck! -he runs off.

He went first to the deep marshes, he moved carefully, trying to spot anything that moved... his ears perked up when he saw a frog, he crouched and started moving... and when he was close enough.... he pounced.

He successfully caught the little creature and killed it with a snap of his teeth, he whispered his thanks to Star Clan, and carried his catch away, wondering where should he leave it.

Lionpaw just left the dead frog over a bush, and made his way over Carrionplace, once again, he put his hunting skill in use again, this time focusing for small and quick movements, in the ground... then he spotted a small furred creature, he crouched... made his way slowly over... and pounced, and missed barely! He tried to chase it but the rodent got away.

-Agggg... dirt- he cursed under his breath.

Sure his fail made him a bit angry, but he tried again, searching for another mouse, this time it took a few minutes, like all the rodents around went to hide, so he had an idea... he crouched and waited... he was an expert doing nothing after all, so he had lots of patience... and soon that patience pays off, another mouse shows up nearby, so he crouches down further and starts moving really slowly... he prepares... and pounces, and he makes it! He kills the small creature fast, it didn´t even know what hit it.

Saying his thanks to Star Clan again, he carries the dead mouse all the way back to the bush where the frog is, and leaves it there, and now he moves to the next location, the Thunderpath.

He had to admit, the roaring of the monsters in the Thunderpath sent shivers down his spine, but he focused, trying to stay away from the flat rock, and started looking around for the small reptile... this wasen´t harder than the mouse, he spotted one soon, so repeating the process again, crouched, stalked... and pounced.

It almost got away but Lionpaw´s claws where faster, it was wiggling too much, so he killed it fast to not risk it escaping, and whispered his thanks to StarClan... he was tired... but he wanted that extra credit, so he carried the dead lizard again to the bush his other prey where and left it there.

Since the deputy didn´t said an specific place to hunt the rabbit, he started searching over there, he sniffed the air, he opened his mouth trying to catch the furred creature´s scent, it took him a few minutes... and there it was, a rabbit nearby... he had tried to catch those before without success, but he still stalked towards it, determined to catch it... once near enough... he pounced, and missed! He spat angrily seeing it get into it´s burrow... but he wasen´t ready to give up.

He resumed his search, looking for another rabbit, lucky for him, many of them seemed to be around, because he spotted another in short time... repeating the process... he pounced, and missed again!

-This is getting boring now- he said, ears dropped, flat of the ground, he huffed and got up again.
