It seemed like the smell of the oncoming storm had grown stronger and Brokenpaw was becoming eager to be able to head back to camp. When he had caught the smell of rabbit, he didn't think he would chase it because he had hoped to get a few easier catches in so that they could go back. But with the storm growing ever closer he decided to take the risk and go after a little more of a challenge. Maybe that would allow them to speed up the patrol. Also, his hunger was driving him to hope that a bigger catch would allow a quicker return; and a quicker passage to him eating back at camp.

He scaled back down the tree and turned toward the smell of rabbit. If he was lucky, the rabbit wouldn't move any farther away so he could keep in sight of Elmcloud; otherwise, he would have to turn away without even getting the chance to go after it. Finally, getting his sight on his target, he saw the grey bunny in front of him. He slipped into position to prepare to pounce. As chance would have it, this was definitely not a full-grown rabbit, although it was still bigger than anything else Brokenpaw had seen out on the patrol today. He landed on its back half and sunk his claws in. He almost let loose when it kicked him in the gut, but slipped the grip of one of his paws to drag its neck closer to him. Finally, biting down on its neck a little messily, he ended its life. Broken caught his breath and turned back towards the other two cats, and to return to the stash of their previously caught prey.

The combined weight of the stiffening squirrel and mouse carefully grasped between Elmcloud's teeth sent a slight ache resonating through his spine, but it did little to deter his quick movements. Winding his way through the sparse and dry undergrowth, he was a bit startled when a fat rain droplet collided with his muzzle- so much that it made him twitch with surprise. The forest, once filled with the soft murmurs and scurrying of various creatures, was overcome with the heavy patter of an early Newleaf shower.

Returning to the clearing that he had last encountered Tigerpaw and Brokenpaw, Elmcloud's fur twitched impatiently as he awaited the return of the pair. The chilly rain easily seeped below his ruffled fur, soaking his skin in a rather unpleasant manner. Ears flattening against his skull, the tom retreated beneath the safety of a nearby bush to wait for his companions.

Thrush gripped firmly in her jaws, Tigerpaw was painstakingly making her way down the birch tree when it happened. Her vision was obscured by feathers, and it was very hard to see where she was going, so she was feeling her way down the bark instead. A raindrop hit her on the nose. Before she could even properly register what had just happened, another hit her in the eye. She flinched inadvertently, but her claws did not loosen their grip. Within the next few seconds, a heavy downpour was suddenly drumming down upon the forest. Tigerpaw could feel the water rapidly soaking through her striped fur. As quickly as she could--which was not very quickly at all, considering how she did not want to plunge to her death in a moment of carelessness--she made it to the ground. The overwhelming scent of rain made it hard, but after a brief span she was able to find the squirrel she had buried earlier. In a flash, she had unearthed it. Adjusting both pieces of prey so she would be able to carry them both, she grimaced at the gritty, unpleasant sensation of dirt in her mouth. Now... which direction had she come from?

Upon entering the clearing where she had separated from Elmcloud and Brokenpaw, her first thought was that the others weren't here yet. However, upon closer inspection, she noticed the pair of flashing yellow eyes peering out from under the shrubbery. "Oh, Elmcloud." She said, the squirrel and thrush working together to efficiently turn her words into a smothered mew.
