Emberheart was... Was frustrated the right word? It didn't feel quite right. It felt like she hadn't been doing anything useful lately, anyway, and she wanted to fix that. Patrolling the border was one of the ways she tried to make herself feel like she was contributing, and that was what brought her to Sunningrocks. The battle where she had proven her worth to ThunderClan had taken place here, although they had lost in the end. Past here, where the river flowed, she had found a dead Clanmate. Those weren't things she liked to think about, honestly - she tried to avoid Sunningrocks when possible. The place held too many negative memories, she struggled to push past them. Sometimes, though, like today, it was unavoidable, and she was eager to get it over with as quickly as possible. She was distracted, barely paying attention, just going through the motions of a singular cat on border patrol.

Shadefang rested on one of the highest rocks on Sunningrocks, purring gently as he felt the warmth of the sun on his dark tabby fur. He heard and scented a ThunderClan cat approaching the border, and he opened his eyes to see a flame-colored she-cat. Smirking, he extended his limbs and arched his back in a delicious stretch, yawning quite loudly to catch Emberheart’s attention. He then lazily rolled onto his side. “Stars, being the best Clan in the forest really takes it out of you,” he meowed tauntingly. ”It’s a good thing we RiverClanners have nice and warm rocks to rest on. If only ThunderClan could have the same privilege. Oh, well.”

The sound of a voice snapped Emberheart back to attention. What an arrogant jerk. "Do all of you just laze around all day unless you're invading a neighboring Clan? It's a wonder you all haven't starved to death." She sat firmly on her side of the border, for the moment at least, and watched the RiverClan cat with a mix of curiosity and irritation - which, admittedly, was how she generally thought of RiverClan.

Shadefang sneered at Emberheart, rolling onto his belly to push himself up to a sit. ”Nah, we don’t starve. We’re the only Clan who live off of fish, so there’s no competition there. Besides that, WindClan’s prey is pretty tasty, too. Maybe we should just claim that lone stump of theirs permanently. We could do the same for your territory around Sunningrocks. You won’t be needing it anyway when RiverClan takes over the forest.”

Emberheart rolled her eyes. "And what would you do once you were the only Clan left? No one would be left to gloat to, so I assume you'd be at a loss for what to do at that point, you fox-hearted mouse-brain. Besides, you'd never be able to take over the forest," she said confidently. That, at least, she was certain of. The Clans had remained for who knows how long, after all, and ideally they would remain for longer still. Alliances shifted, wars were waged, but the Clans were always Clans, plural.

”Care to put your prey where your muzzle is?” Shadefang taunted with an evil look in his eyes, rising up to a stand now. ”Or are you afraid you’ll end up like Thistlepaw and Specklefang?”

Her fur bristled at the mention of her former mentor. Emberheart still had a lot of things to think about when it came to Specklefang, but regardless of her feelings on the matter that angered her. However awful the things her former mentor had done, she wouldn't stand for a filthy fish-brain who had never even known her speaking ill of her. "What makes you think either of those situations were at all alike, fish-face? Thistlepaw did nothing wrong! And Specklefang? She admitted to her wrongdoings, and faced the consequences! She left behind a family, left behind an apprentice! All because your leader couldn't avoid sinking to the same level!" A voice in the back of her head, the responsible one that didn't want this situation to escalate any further, reminded her that she should probably take Scarletpaw on a patrol sometime soon, and mention to Leopardclaw that she was about ready for her Moonstone journey. "RiverClan keeps wasting time on rash actions towards other Clans instead of punishing the fox-hearted murderers within their own territory, so I shouldn't be surprised that you're no less mouse-brained than the rest of your pathetic Clanmates," she hissed. "Does the suffering of others give you all some sort of sick satisfaction?"

Shadefang’s evil grin remained. ”As a matter of fact, it does,” he chuckled lowly. His claws unsheathed and he crouched down into a battle position. ”So let’s help you and your Clan suffer more, shall we?” He launched himself off the rocks and tackled hard into Emberheart with a battle cry.

Shadefang used Jumping Strike on Emberheart, dealing 10 damage and costing 20 stamina.

(OOC: I think I got Ember’s stats right. Also, do you mind if Shade does something to her like claw off part of her ear or dislocate her tail or something? Shade most likely won’t win this battle, but I’d still like him to do some damage, if that’s okay with you.)

Emberheart hissed, but it wasn't like this situation was completely unexpected. Besides, this RiverClanner had crossed the border specifically to attack her, and anything she did now was in self-defense. Still, she was fairly certain he wasn't stronger than her, and rolled out from under him, latching onto his tail and sinking her teeth into it.

Emberheart used Tail Yank, dealing 6 damage and costing 10 stamina. Shadefang is stunned for one turn.

Emberheart was pinned, at least for a moment. But thinking quickly, she rolled over - back onto her paws - and pushed his weight off of her. "You really think I didn't see that coming?" she asked as she did so, genuinely surprised.

The RiverClan tom yelped, eyes widened, furious with himself that he didn’t think that this stupid she-cat would be strong enough to shake him off. With an impatient, rage-filled caterwaul, he reared up and slashed his claws against her face, slicing his claws down one of her ears and taking out quite a bit of the thin, fragile skin.
