It's time to hunt. (Closed)

Dewshine revelled in the early morning. When the world was still covered in a light frost, the cold nipped at her pelt and helped her to wake up fully from her restful sleep the night before. She could tell that leafbare was losing it's grip as patches of thawed grass showed the colours of newleaf. The sounds of the ice breaking loose was a soft constant noise, perfect for covering the sound of paws over the damp ground. She looked at the apprentice's den with delight in her blue eyes. It was time to show her first apprentice how to hunt. This morning was too perfect to waste.

She padded to the entrance of the den. Her sleek silver pelt covered slightly damp with morning frost as she nudged her apprentice softly to wake him.
"Robinpaw, it's time. Meet me just outside the camp entrance when you're ready." She meowed softly before padding out into the camp. She glanced at a couple other warriors and nodded to them before she exited the camp to settle just outside the walls in wait.

Robinpaw opened his green eyes at the nudge. He looked at Dewshine with an excited but sleepy gaze. When his mentor stepped out, the young tom got up and stretched his limbs. He then groomed his handsome pelt before exiting the den himself. The apprentice began to walk over th Dewshine and dipped his head in a greeting. "I'm here! What are we going to do today?" he asked.

When Robinpaw appeared Dewshine smiled and stood with a cheerful flick of her tail.
"I think it's time for your first hunting patrol." She meowed as they padded away from camp. She led him to a small area surrounded by bushes. The river flowed not too far away, but the fish weren't going to be easy to catch, and the water was cold and strong enough to bother the strongest of cats. She decided fishing could come later.

Instead, she smelled around for a trail of scent, finding one from a water vole that must be out and about collecting it's leaf bare stores of nuts.
"Smell this track, tell me what you think it is." She encouraged with a step back to let the tom get a clear scent.

Dewshine smiled at Robinpaw's answer. Her head nodded as he reassessed the scent.
"Yes, It's a water vole." She replied, her paw lifted and pointed to a tiny track in the snow. "Normally we'd fish, but leaf-bare and even early newleaf there isn't as much fish as the rest of the year. So you should practice hunting these too. Water voles only stay near the river." She explained as she stepped carefully around the track.

"Try following it, keep your head down and your body low." She coached, her voice softening as she moved to the side to demonstrate, but at the same time, keep out of the young tom's way so he could scent the vole without getting her scent mixed into it. "Move as quietly as you can, I'll be right beside you."

Robinpaw nodded and smiled back. He then crouched down and kept his body low as Dewshine instructed. He kept inching closer and cliser to the water vole until he was close enough to pounce. Which he did. The tom caught it before it retreated to wherever it originated from. He held up his first catch in his jaws. His eyes were shining with pride and happiness. He hoped Dewshine was just as proud as he was.

Dewshine purred proudly at Robinpaw's efforts. Her blue eyes glowed in delight as she stepped forward with a smile.
"Well done, Robinpaw!" She cheered. Then she looked down towards the ground and scraped a bit of thawed dirt aside. "While we continue hunting, it's a good idea to bury our catches so other things can't find it." She explained calmly, though she didn't dig a deep hole. The soil was frozen after a couple claw lengths. "For today, since the ground is still frozen, we'll have to carry it." She ameneded before stepping to Robinpaw. "Why don't you pass it to me and try to pick up another prey's scent trail." She encouraged.

Robinpaw blushed at the praise and quickly handed her the prey. He began to scent another prey nearby. He quickly followed the scent trail and it led him to an unsuspecting mouse. He crouched and began to do what he had done before. Soon enough, the apprentice pounced. He caught it in his jaws and killed it. He held it up for his mentor to see, eyes shining and with a small bounce in his step.
