Time to hunt (CLOSED for Your Every Day Cat)

Shrikesong stretched out and walked out of her den. She scanned across camp. Birds were perched on the bare branches above, much higher than the she-cat could reach. The world was filled with browns and whites - covering the ground, covering the trees, covering everywhere that Shrikesong looked - and the brown she-cat hoped that soon, leaf-bare would end and the Asylum who had trapped her and her clanmates here would be forced out.

She hadn't felt genuinely happy in a long time. And she could trace it all back to them. It's all their fault, she thought bitterly, turning her head to the apprentice's den. The Asylum enforced their demands on her clan, most likely the others as well, and she was angry at them. She tried to hide it, to pretend that everything was okay until she found an opportunity to strike, but after Beecloud's rebellion against the Asylum was crushed, she knew that her opposition couldn't stay hidden.

Of course, she had no time to dwell on the Asylum at the moment. It was time to take one of her apprentices, Onepaw, to train. It was her duty as a warrior to raise her apprentices to become capable warriors. She couldn't get weighed down by her own feelings when she still had a duty to help her apprentices. "Onepaw," she called, standing in front of the apprentice's den. "Wake up. It's time for your training."

Shrikesong smiled, making sure that the young tom didn't know that she was faking her excitement. "We're going hunting today," she said, beckoning the young apprentice with her tail. Eventually, the brown she-cat was able to lead her apprentice to an area where they could hunt in peace. "This seems like a good spot. Let me tell you how to hunt before you try it."

The brown she-cat nodded at her apprentice. "First, you sniff out the prey," she said, crouching down. "Then, you get into a hunter's crouch." Noticing a squirrel in the distance, the brown she-cat padded towards it. "At this point, you stalk the prey until you get close enough... and you pounce!" The squirrel didn't even have a chance at escaping when she pounced at it. Really, squirrels were one of the easier prey to catch for a ThunderClan cat, even during the snowy season of Leaf-bare. Turning back to her apprentice, the rodent in her jaws, she placed it down in front of him. "And that's how you hunt!" she said. Really, this hunting training was distracting her from the never-ending hatred that she had for the Asylum, which was always nice.
