out for a hunt (closed hunting patrol)

The chilly winds of leafbare cut through the RiverClan camp like a knife. As a cat with thick fur, Scorchclaw was not really bothered by the cold like some of his thinner-furred clanmates were. That did not mean he liked leafbare, however. While it might be fun for some of the younger cats to tramp around in the snow, after a while the novelty wore off and it just got irritating. Almost everything was covered in white. Prey was always harder to catch in leafbare, not to mention that large portions of the river froze, preventing the RiverClanners from fishing at certain areas. Gazing up into the gray, overcast sky of that morning, Scorchclaw let out a sigh. If only leafbare would be over soon. He couldn't wait for newleaf to roll around. This leafbare had been a particularly harsh one, filled with calamity after calamity. Leaving out the fact that he had finally become a warrior, almost nothing good had happened. He cast a look at the fresh-kill pile. While taking WindClan's prey might have been a harsh move in the eyes of some, it had certainly helped bolster RiverClan's own prey stock. Now that the temporary relief had passed, however, RiverClan's fresh-kill was getting low again. Having become a warrior, he now had even more of a responsibility towards his clan. The fluffy warrior got to his paws and padded over to the camp entrance. "I'm going hunting. Does anyone want to join me?" He called out, sweeping his green eyes over his clanmates.

The newly made apprentice was searching for an opportunity to leave the camp and do what she wanted without Jaystream on her back and now she had that chance. She approached Scorchclaw and greeted him with a silent nod. Hailpaw wasn't good to start relationships and chats so she preferred to remain quiet most of the time. "I want to go." She mewed seriously, not much emotion in her voice.

Birchpaw was sitting outside the apprentice den when he heard Scorchclaw call for a hunting patrol. Having already seen Hailpaw walk up to him, He stood up and padded over to the camp entrance. "Can i come along?" He asked, looking at Scorchclaw.

Scorchpaw returned Hailpaw's nod with a tiny one of his own. At the sound of Birchpaw's voice, he turned to face the tom. "Yeah." He mewed. He studied the two apprentices that had come up to him. There were only three of them in total; two apprentices and one new warrior. If they were to run into a predator, things might not turn out well. Scorchclaw considered carefully and then decided that they needed one more cat with them.

OOC: don't post until we get one more patrol member please. In the event that no one else wants to join, we'll just go with three cats.

OOC: Are you okay with two more(Heron and Wren)?

OOC: Lux already signed Batfang up for the patrol, but I'm okay with one more cat (Heron or Wren, you choose) joining us.

OOC: Okay, maybe Wren, then.

Wrenpaw panted as she ran to the gathering patrol. "Can I come too?" she asked as she gasped for breath.

Batfang approached the group when he noticed that the young and inexperienced Scorchclaw was going to lead a patrol. With an annoyed soft growl, he made his way to his clanmates and looked at the other warrior with piercing serious eyes. ”I’ll join you too. One young warrior like you shouldn’t handle so many apprentices alone.”

Just as Scorchclaw was about to say something to Wrenpaw who had come running over, Batfang spoke first. The brown warrior couldn't help but feel irritated when Batfang pointed out his inexperience, but he had to admit that the older warrior was right. Three apprentices was indeed a pawful. Besides, it would be very helpful to have another warrior nearby if anything were to happen. He should be grateful that Batfang was offering to come. So he pushed aside his annoyance and chose to dip his head instead. "Thank you." He mewed. Thus the patrol of two warriors and three apprentices left camp. After they had walked for a while, they finally arrived at one of the streams that flowed through RiverClan territory. "Alright, this is good enough. Feel free to hunt whatever type of prey you'd like, but don't wander too far off. If you get in any trouble, call for me and Batfang." Scorchclaw's words were directed at the three apprentices, and he gave them an intense stare as he spoke. He didn't really care what the apprentices chose to do as long as they did not get in trouble. Having said all that he wanted to, he settled down by the stream.

It did not take long for a dark shadow to appear on the surface of the water. Quick as lightning, Scorchclaw shot out a paw and scooped the fish out of the water. Following that up, he delivered a swift bite to the fish, ending its life. After pawing some snow over the fish to keep it fresh, he resumed his hunting.

Hailpaw followed Scorchclaw's closely since she trusted him more than the grumpy warrior with the scarred face. When they reached their destination, the calico she-cat nodded diligently and she made her way to the water.

The apprentice entered the river until the water reached the middle of her legs and she waited. When the silver flash showed up, the graceful she-cat moved her paw swiftly and the fish was thrown away to the riverbank. She ran behind it and killed it because it could return to the water.

Birchpaw followed the hunting group out of Riverclan camp and lifted his nose to scent prey. It wasn't long until the smell of mouse filled his nostrils. He followed the scent until he saw the mouse. He dropped into the hunters crouched and stalked the mouse, his tail high. He wasn't paying attention to the weight of his footsteps and the mouse had felt his footsteps. "Darn it!" He cried. He turned the other direction and searched for another sent.

Wrenpaw looked for a small vole and pounced on it. However, since it was her first time trying and her hunter's crouch wasn't great, she missed the rodent, which scurried down a hole. Darn it! I know that I can catch the next one, she told herself.
