Fight Fight Fight [Closed]

They'd been out a couple of times so far, but Rippedsky had managed to find the time to take out his apprentice a bit more than he had with Sedgestrike. His last apprentice had been a bit more of a pawful and taking him out to train had been difficult. But, Brokenpaw was a lot more promising than his predecessor. Giving the fact he trusted the mild-mannered, young tom, he had taken him for a border patrol. The hope was not to run into any trouble, yet, that was the very reason they were there. Thunderclan was less than pleased with the fact that Skyclan had chosen to stand by Riverclan in the recent tension. Blizzardstar was not the kind to hold grudges. Her clan, on the other paw, were mostly more concerned with keeping themselves alive. It was understandable. Although, that did not mean they should be lax on keeping intruders out of the boundaries of the territory.

"I'm hoping we don't run into a patrol, but if we do, it will be a good chance to practice what you have learned so far. Remember, Thunderclan isn't our enemy, no matter what clan alliances are like these days..." Not long ago he had frequented this border to help supervise the cats they allowed to hunt on their territory. He respected Blizzardstar as a leader, even if he did not agree with everything she did. It was sad there were so many tensions between their clans now. Rippedsky had never wanted there to be a reason for the clans to be at odds, but Crowstar had been right in his decision to stay with Riverclan. Skyclan was safer because of their leader's decision. And, it did not necessarily mean they were against Thunderclan. Ivystar wouldn't attack without reason.

His tail flicked back and forth as the bounded from tree to tree and he thought. Once they were near the fallen oak that marked the borders between the two clans, he stopped. The deputy's fur bristled, and he hissed lowly to Brokenpaw, "I smell Thunderclan, keep your eyes open."

Brokenpaw really did not want to be out on this patrol with his mentor, but it was "an opportunity"; so here he was. He padded alongside Rippedsky, compliant but not really interested in the activity. He didn't truly understand what Ripped meant when he was talking about 'what alliances are like these days'. although he detected the hint that things were not as they should be, he just didn't pay enough attention at what what on between clans because he thought the whole structure was ridiculous anyway. Ha, you hope there's no trouble, he thought, no I definitely hope there's no trouble.

When Ripped stopped and ushered his warning to the young apprentice, Brokenpaw whispered, "Oh joy."

Sharptooth padded quietly through the trees, her fluffy tail twitching. "C'mon, catch up!" She mewed over her shoulder, stepping over a large branch. "Once we patrol this border we'll be able to return home. I bet there'll be a nice squirrel waiting for us, if we hurry."

"I'm coming, I'm coming," Dawnpetal meowed, though she didn't sound impatient. "I'd love to sink my teeth into a nice juicy rabbit. Hopefully the earlier hunting patrol had caught one." Her stomach rumbled quite loudly at the thought of eating her favorite type of fresh-kill.

"Just make sure you catch the prey on your own side of the border." Rippedsky meowed as he dropped down onto the forest floor. A hint of defensiveness crept into his voice no matter how even he tried to keep his tone. The black and white tom stood less than a mouselength away from where the border was marked. His blue eyes shone with emotion, something akin to a mix of concern and apprehension. Not long ago, a Thunderclan tom had attacked him here. He did not long for his apprentice to get into a fight so early into their training and would do anything to avoid it. But, if it came to it, the deputy was more than prepared to fight in order to keep Brokenpaw safe. He had tried hard not to find any disdain for the clan they had been so closely aligned to. The assistance from the forest fire and their debt to Skyclan had been so quickly forgotten. It was more frustration that lived alongside the pity in his mind for the time being.

He flicked his tail for Brokenpaw to come stand silently at his side. Hopefully, the patrol across the border did not assume they were a weak target due to it only being the duo. They very well could have more cats hunting in the trees, but also supposed that could be true of Thunderclan too. His gaze narrowed as he sized up the cats, trying to gauge their intent and their personalities. Both looked like cats he had seen at the gathering before, or maybe in camp when he had visited, but neither names seemed to come to his mind. As he waited for a response, his ear flicked slightly. Rippedsky was listening for the sound of any other cat in the forest around him. This did not need to turn into a fight by any means. Yet, he was still obligated to defend his borders and would do so by whatever means possible if it came down to it.

As Rippedsky motioned him closer, Brokenpaw actually began to get a little worried about their situation. Once he could see the other cats, he realized they were both warriors; and then Rippedsky had gotten very serious, very quickly. That couldn't be a good sign. He tried to stretch his smaller body out as much as he could, and hide his concern, hopefully looking a little more grown up. He was uncertain about the idea of attacking these two, they were on their side of the border so far. And so what if they strayed just a little on their hunt, the clans weren't gonna starve because a few animals were hunted on the edges of each others borders.

"Try to mind your own business, Skyclanner." Sharptooth had never loved Skyclan- they were far too timid, from what she had heard. The short-legged she-cat let out a faint rumble of laughter as the Skyclan deputy crouched into a defensive stance, his blue eyes flashing. "Stay on your side of the border, and we'll have no reason to send you two back home with fresh scars- although I don't suppose you'll be needing any more of em' on your face, Rippedsky." The fluffy warrior flicked her ears but stood tall, turning to exchange looks with Dawnpetal. She wasn't going to jump into a fighting stance just because a half-rouge clan had their fur in a bunch.

Dawnpetal snorted in disbelief, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Sharptooth, glaring dangerously at the SkyClan toms. "Yeah, like they would ever stay on their side. I've had to fight two SkyClan cats within the past moon due to them trespassing. Two! When will you sorry mouse-hearts ever learn what boundaries are?"

"None of my warriors have reported instigating any fights, but I have to say the same has happened with Thunderclan. Not too long ago one of your warriors charged across the border to tear at me with his claws over sins my clan has not committed. Don't be so short-sighted as to only see other's flaws." He meowed back lowly, stepping forwards to be in front of Brokenpaw. The deputy's blue gaze bore into the tabby warrior nearest him. Beneath the words, although spoken with the calm neutrality he usually held, there was a bit of a challenge. Rippedsky hoped they would see sense, that they would back down before another unnecessary fight broke out. But, as a precaution, he slid his claws out into the dust without looking away. These days you couldn't blink without another clan trying to tear your pelt off.

The black and white tom wished they had brought another cat on patrol with them. It was foolish to believe they could check the borders without back up. As he thought about it, the nearest patrol was well out of earshot. Could he and Brokenpaw take them on? He risked glancing back at the black apprentice for a split second. Although, he had trained well in the past moons. They could fend them off if anything happened. Behind his defensive stance, the warrior's tail flickered in anticipation. If any of them stepped over the border or threatened the safety of the young cat next to him, Rippedsky was more than ready to handle it.

Brokenpaw listened to the claims of the Thunderclan cats, watching Ripped's reaction, He wondered if he could just start walking away, since clearly all of the other cats weren't about to de-escalate the situation. Give me up to Starclan, he thought, I'm gonna have to fight just because warriors can't manage their own egos. He really hated the clan system so much.

When Rippedsky turned to look at him, he knew he was to late to hope for a way out, and he knew the fear showed in his eyes.

Sharptooth's eyes narrowed as the Skyclan deputy spoke. In a flash of anger, the short-legged warrior hissed under her breath and took a small pawstep over the border. She raised her head so she could meet the deputy's cool blue gaze with her fiery green one, whiskers trembling with indignation. "Every word you speak reeks of bias, Rippedsky. Have you considered that the Thunderclanner might've been attacking because of your clan's timidness, Rippedsky? Or are you too caught up in your own clan that you forget what others have been fighting through? You tell me not to be short-sighted, but clearly, you have yet to follow your own advice. Now stand down, Rippedsky, and we'll both be able to return home peacefully." The fluffy she-cat flicked her ears, a signal to Dawnpetal that they may not make it back without a fight when the cats didn't move. "I hope I won't have to ask you two nicely again. Go home before we send you there in pieces."
Sharptooth paused for a moment with her eyes still on Rippedsky's, tattered ears flat against her head as she realized her mistake; She had stepped over the border. There was no going back now- it was better to make the first move and ensure the battle got over quickly enough that no serious damage was done. She flashed Dawnpetal a quick, deep glance over her shoulder, hoping the she-cat would understand. 'Go back if you'd like- this is my battle.' She could only hope that Dawnpetal would listen. If she didn't, perhaps she'd get the apprentice out of the way before the young tom saw the rest of the battle. He was too young to see bloodshed, no matter how little blood was spilled.
With one swift move, Sharptooth darted around Rippedsky and seized his tail in her jaws, pulling sharply and sending the lightly built tom off of his feet. Hopefully, she had surprised the deputy enough to give Dawnpetal time to take down the apprentice. "I'm not losing a battle for Thunderclan again." Desperation edged her voice, muffled as it was by Rippedsky's tail. "I'm not sacrificing another sister."

Sharptooth used Tail Yank on Rippedsky, dealing 7 damage and using 10 SP. Rippedsky is stunned for one turn.

Great StarClan, she didn’t want to have to be pitted against an apprentice. But there was nothing else she could do really. Besides, perhaps this would just teach the other dirty SkyClan trespassers to stay on their side of the border for once. She growled and leaped at Brokenpaw, then thwacked him hard on the side of the head, her claws sheathed. She didn’t want to deal too much damage after all.

Dawnpetal used Front Paw Blow on Brokenpaw, dealing 9 damage and costing 5 stamina.
