Eaglekit's Apprentice Ceremony

Leopardclaw leaped onto the Highrock and called out; "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather beneath the Highrock for a clan meeting!"

The muscular, young tom padded out into the clearing with his head high and chest out. There had plenty of ceremonies lately and he just knew this was his. Eaglekit's eyes glowed as he started up at the deputy. Which incredible warrior would be his mentor?

Leopardclaw met the young kit's proud gaze for a moment, before calling out; "Eaglekit, step forward."

He padded forwards, never looking away from Leopardclaw. This was his moment.

Taking a breath, Leopardclaw began the ceremony; "Eaglekit, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed.  From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Eaglepaw.  Your mentor will be Newttongue.  I trust that he will pass down all that he has learned on to you."  A trill of pride rang in his voice as he announced his adopted son as the new apprentice's mentor, but that brief feeling quickly faded away back to the suffocating numbness that had become his normal.

The apprentice nodded at the deputy, beaming with pride. As soon as his mentor was announced, he searched for the tom and padded over. His nose pressed quickly to Newttongue's before he meowed, "I'm going to be the best apprentice ever, you'll see!"

Newttongue smiled at his apprentice. Finally, something new to do! "I bet you will. Get familiar with the other apprentices and get a nest ready. They might have some good knowledge to give you before you leave camp. We start formally training tomorrow."
