Heronpaw's Warrior Ceremony

"Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey, gather beneath the willow branch for a clan meeting!" Though usually warrior ceremonies filled her with delight, in this moment she was conflicted. The silver leader didn't know how she felt about making Heronpaw a warrior, he had proven himself in battle and as a hunter, but as a clanmate? He hesitated in his loyalty to RiverClan solely, and felt too much sympathy for others. Too dogmatic to the code and not enough to the survival of their clan. Could she rely on him when the sky turned blood red once more as battles between clans waged?

Heronpaw walked up with his clanmates to Ivystar. Something told him that it was a warrior ceremony. Or an apprentice ceremony. One thing is for sure, Ivystar has called out a clan meeting, and the young tom sat down, waiting for Ivystar.

"Heronpaw, Jaystream as confirmed that you are now ready to undertake the responsibilities of a warrior. If that is indeed true, step forward." She didn't know if she wanted him to step forward or not, it was a conflicting moment. They needed warriors, but did they need warriors this badly? A disloyal warriors could bring much more harm than good. But was she being too harsh, judging an apprentice by the actions he committed in the past?

Heronpaw listened to Ivystar and stepped forward.

He stepped forward, so she begun the ceremony, banishing the doubt in her heart. "I, Ivystar, leader of Riverclan, call upon my warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentice. He has trained hard to understand the ways of your noble code, and I commend him to you as a warrior in his turn, Heronpaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code and to be loyal, protect and defend your Clan, even at the cost of your life?"

She added the extra clause, her green eyes watching for doubt. Would he swear upon all that he held sacred to remain loyal to RiverClan and only RiverClan?

Heronpaw said proudly and clearly. "I do," his voice boomed out.

"By the powers of StarClan, I give you your warrior name. From this day forth, you will be known as Heronflight. RiverClan honours your conviction and loyalty for moons to come." With these words, she accepted him as one of them, no longer an outsider or possible danger. He was one of them, for better or for worse. But hopefully for better. "You will sit a silent vigil tonight in camp as the clan sleeps. Protect us well, young Heronflight."
