Fernfeather watched Softpaw streak off. She knew how much he enjoyed a good run on the moor. She used to love that, too. Stars, she would do anything to feel the wind ruffling her fur and hear the pounding of her heart and sense all the rushing smells around her. But she knew she couldn't. Her pads hurt too much. Her half-blinded sight would never be able to keep up with her. She sighed softly as Softpaw returned with a rabbit, and she forced her another smile.

She supposed she'd might as well try catching another bird again. She sniffed out a thrush and immediately began pelting after it, struggling hard to ignore the pain in her pads. If she could just ignore the pain, maybe she could begin having fun on the moor again.

But she never got the chance to catch it. A raccoon leaped out from the bushes and hissed. Fernfeather tried to skid to a stop, but the raccoon suddenly advanced on her and slashed out its claws. She turned her head just in time, and claws struck her ear, slicing through the thin flesh. She let out a yowl of pain.

Raccoon used Quick Swipe on Fernfeather, dealing 20 damage and costing 10 stamina.

"Fernfeather!" Softpaw cried in alarm, fear washing over him. What was he supposed to do? He had never fought anything before! But he couldn't let his dear sister lose another part of her; she had already lost so much. Suddenly, Softpaw was filled with protective rage. Dropping the rabbit, Softpaw threw himself onto the offending raccoon. "Get away from her!" He growled, digging his claws into its flank.

Softpaw used Leap-and-Hold, dealing 6 damage and costing 10 SP.

"Softpaw, look out, for the claws!" Fernfeather hissed through clenched teeth, bearing through the pain. She glared furiously at the raccoon, and once again, just like during the Thunderpath battle with Curlyfeather and the gorge fight with Smokewish, she began losing herself to the battle. She wanted to harm it. She wanted to maim it. She wanted to kill it! She wanted it to know what it was like living a life with one eye, no tail, and constantly hurting pads. She wanted it to know what it was like to just barely have anything left in her life to live for.

Unsheathing her claws, she yowled with inexplicable rage the likes Softpaw had never heard, and she reared up on her hind paws to slash her claws into its face.

Fernfeather used Rear-Up to Slash, dealing 11 damage and costing 15 stamina.

Softpaw felt the raccoon struggle beneath him, and it twisted, its snapping maws dangerously close to his face. The pale apprentice reeled back but held tight, not wanting to release it and let it harm Fernfeather. But eventually, it wriggled so hard that Softpaw lost his grip, and he darted away before it could touch him.

Fernfeather reared up her claws, ready to strike again, but the raccoon was very quick to dodge once it was released. It circled around the warrior for a few moments, seeming to taunt her, until finally it caught her off guard. It spat and lashed out its claws again at her face, aiming for the eyes.

Fernfeather let out a high-pitched wail as she stumbled back and fell to the ground, her good eye stinging horribly. She pressed both paws to her tightly shut eye, which began to ooze blood. No! No! Please no! Don't let her go blind! Please, StarClan, don't take away what remained of her sight! PLEASE!

Raccoon used Quick Swipe on Fernfeather, dealing 20 damage and costing 10 stamina.

Softpaw cried out his sister's name as he saw blood welling from her previously non-injured eye. No! Softpaw darted after the raccoon that had turned its attention on Fernfeather, and slammed into it at full force, shoving it away from the wounded cat. The raccoon turned tail and fled, blood leaving a trail behind it.

Softpaw turned to his sister, who was clutching at her injured eye. He hurried to her side, trying to move her paw so that he could see the damage. "F-fernfeather, you'll be o-okay, I-I'll get help-"
He had failed her.

"It hurts! It hurts! Why, StarClan, whyyyyy?!" she wailed, both in agony and despair. She had lost both her eyes! She had completely lost her sight! Now she would never be able to run on the moor or fight in a battle or even look at the faces of her friends and family ever again! She wanted Swiftstep. She wanted Quailfeather. She wanted Softpaw. She wanted Squirrelpaw and Sandkit and Coyotekit and Ashstar and-- She just wanted this all to go away!

Softpaw flinched at her pained wails, and he felt tears creeping up in his eyes. "F-fernfeather...!" He moved forward, not knowing what to do but wanting desperately to comfort her in any way he could. Softpaw stared at the pool of blood collecting on the ground and felt the urge to be sick. "Fernfeather, we n-need to get you back to camp. C-can you walk?" He mewed shakily.

Fernfeather continued to whimper and cry, her tears beginning to heavily sting her freshly-blinded eye. She stumbled to her paws and staggered a little before standing still. "I... I c-can't s-see... P-Please, Softpaw, h-help m-me... g-get back to c-camp... Don't let m-me... t-trip or run into anyth-thing... Please..."
