Gorges Don't Prevent Battles

Fernfeather stalked a mouse closely -- or as closely as she could. She concentrated hard on the little furry rodent with her one good eye, and at the same time she struggled to keep her balance on her hunting stance, nearly too difficult for her without her tail. She stalked closer and closer towards the mouse, praying to StarClan that it wouldn't notice her from behind.

Suddenly, the rustling of reeds and soft crunching of snow startled Fernfeather, and the mouse raced off into the safety of a little hole in the snow. Frustration coursed through her, but it was quickly replaced with fear. She was so focused on trying to catch the mouse that she had no idea that she trespassed right over RiverClan's border next to the gorge! How could she have made yet another stupid decision? It hasn't even been the first time she trespassed because she wasn't paying attention to scent lines. She knew the noises on RiverClan's side was an approaching cat, and she could detect the opposing Clan's scent growing stronger. She knew she had no hope in trying to flee back onto her side of the border without the other cat catching her.

Smokewish walked silently along RiverClan’s side of the border, sniffing the air. Her mind was far, far away from this place. She was thinking of Ashpaw, the little grey apprentice she was friends with. Were they just friends, though? Smokewish certainly felt something different, something bigger, for Ashpaw, but the apprentice probably didn’t even know she existed.

That was when Smokewish stopped her daydreaming, flattening her ears from the deafening roar of the waters as they crashed through the Gorge. WindClan scent shone through the odour of her own Clan, even though she was well on her side of the border. Well, maybe it was the scent drifting over... The young warrior caught a glimpse of grey out of the corner of her eye. A mouse? Why was it running towards her? No, it was running towards a hole in the snow. Something scared it away. Smokewish looked up, and saw another warrior. One eye was misty and faded, most likely blind. The tail had been ripped off until it was no more than a stub. What? Why was a WindClan cat on RiverClan’s side of the border? Smokewish was just about to leap at them when she stopped. Could she really fight a disabled warrior? She would have to. They were in her territory, and were a little bigger than her. She needed to do this.

A growl rumbled from the base of her throat. ”This is RiverClan territory.” She said, a warning in her tone. Hating herself already for attacking a disabled cat, she leapt forwards and clawed at the WindClanner.

Fernfeather hissed in surprise and pain from the sudden attack. She shook her head, momentarily dazed, and the deeply rooted despair and aggression buried within her suddenly blinded her with unexpected rage. How dare this cat attack her! She didn't mean to cross the border! Well, she was going to be taught a thing or two for attacking her.

Rearing up with a battle cry, she pounced at Smokewish and pinned her to the ground, digging her claws into her shoulders and gnashing her teeth into her scruff.

Fernfeather used Leap-and-Hold on Smokewish, dealing 9 damage and costing 10 stamina.

Smokewish hissed in alarm as the she-cat leapt onto her back, and felt her eyes water as blood began to pool from her shoulders. She spat and wriggled about, struggling to free herself from underneath the WindClan warrior. Oh, she knew that was a bad idea!

Smokwish is pinned for one more turn.

Fernfeather dug her claws deeper and deeper into her shoulders, piercing through her fur and skin, snarling lowly. "You RiverClanners are so full of yourselves... Thinking you can attack anyone you want without consequences. Well, guess what? There are consequences for attacking a cat over a harmless mistake! I didn't even catch that mouse!" She didn't seem to have much control over what she was saying anymore, too swept up in the heat of the fight to think rationally.

It was her fault for crossing the border in the first place...

No, it wasn't! It was RiverClan's fault for landing the first attack! She was doing no harm, RiverClan could do with one less measly mouse, surely!

Smokewish snarled, only further enraged by this mouse brain thinking she was right. ”The warrior code clearly states that you are to challenge any trespassing cat in your territory!” She hissed, still struggling to free herself. ”You’re wrong! Every cat knows of the consequences of starting a fight, but i was doing. My. Duty.” She snarled, her paws scrabbling at the ground as she fought to free herself.

The WindClan warrior could no longer keep a grip on her enemy, but she made sure to give her shoulder one good hard bite before she broke free. She lashed her stumpy tail back and forth, hackles risen. "I didn't mean to trespass, rabbit-brain! You just feel like attacking whoever you want!" Great StarClan, just STOP! Just admit you were wrong and be done with it!

As soon as she was released, Smokewish jumped to her paws and whipped round to face her opponent. She hissed and slid neatly underneath her, turning to the side to rake her soft, exposed belly with her sharp claws. She came back out again the other side and scrambled back to a standing position. ”Oh, please. You were well over the border! I’m not angry about the mouse. I’m angry about the fact that you refuse to listen to reason!” She panted, ignoring the screaming pain in her shoulders and the blood slowly trickling down the length of her body. She had to get this cat off RiverClan territory!

Fernfeather panted heavily when she dealt the final blow, and with the heat of battle rapidly cooling her off she was finally able to take in what she had done. Her eyes widened in horror, and she took a few steps back. "O-Oh, no..." This was the second time she had crossed the border and defeated another cat in their own territory. What was wrong with her?!...

Smokewish was still snarling when her opponent smashed her paw across her face, bringing her to the ground hard. Her head made contact with the hard-packed earth, and darkness invaded her vision as she struggled to keep conscious. It was no good. She had been knocked out, her wounds painting the normally crisp white snow in a shade of crimson.

OOC: pfft, give me ideas what to do now. make someone come find her? or just assume she was brought back to the medicine den and make a topic there?

"Oh, no...! Oh, StarClan, what am I doing?!" Fear coursing through her veins, mainly at what she had just done to an innocent RiverClan cat doing her duty, Fernfeather turned and raced back into WindClan territory.

(OOC: I can have Sweetheart find her and bring her back if you'd like. Do you want me to include her in this topic after Fernfeather leaves?)
