The russet warrior detected a vole. He hadn’t caught one of those in a while.
Almost she second he took a step toward the vole, it bolted away, which confused Russetpelt until he got a whiff of something then made his heart stop. Are your kidding me? The snarl of a fox the tom puff up. He leapt back, sheiding the apprentices from the large red mammal. Oh no, these apprentices weren’t getting hurt on his watch.
Without hesitation, Russetpelt leaped at the fox with outstretched claws, raking its muzzle.

His ears fell along with his head at Poplarpaw's sour reply. The little apprentice had finally found an ability in hunting and soaring through the trees. And yet, that still was not enough. Mumblepaw muttered a soft thanks to the warrior who tried to encourage him. He appreciated Russetpelt's attempts at cheering him on, but that had to be just because he was far too nice. The ginger tom seemed to be like his father. The two of them probably got along really well with their ability to patronize him. He sighed and shook his head to forget the thoughts. Russetpelt seemed genuinely nice and his denmate's attitude had just seemed to down them both. But, there was hunting to be done.

He watched the warrior pad away and began to turn when he stopped short. Instantly, the black and white tom's blood ran cold, colder than the weather could have made it. Mumblepaw did not want to turn around he knew what waited there. The scent that hit his nostrils was already forever ingrained in his mind. Fox. Trembling began in his legs and he couldn't bring himself to turn around for a moment. Flashes of scarlet ran through his mind. Crowstar's throat being torn open. His breathing hitched in his throat. This couldn't happen again. They would all day. Widened eyes glanced at Poplarpaw to gauge his reaction. Once again the fear threatened to overwhelm him as it had before. However, it was his fault Crowstar had suffered such awful wounds. He couldn't let that happen again; he couldn't just stand there.

"No." Mumblepaw whispered to himself. Shaking the ice from his pelt, he stood up tall and turned... to bolt to the neared tree. His paws carried him quickly up the bark and to one of the lower branches. All the while, his sides heaved from a mix of effort and an attempt to calm his shaking nerves at what he had just decided to do. This was it. For once in his pathetic lifetime, no matter how hard his heart thudded and mind protested, he was going to do something brave. He tried to shut down all the overwhelming thoughts in his brain but they were relentless. So, he simply jumped.

Poplarpaw watched with the same blunt expression as the fox emerged into the open. Of course, it was a predator, so the fluffy tom wasn't just going to stand there and do nothing. However, he did shoot Mumblepaw a quick glance that seemed to say 'do something, you coward.'
First Russetpelt attacked, and then the brown-and-white tom couldn't help but raise a nonexistent eyebrow as Mumblepaw leaped down from the low branch of a tree and onto the fox. At least the black-and-white tom was helping instead of hiding away in a bush or something. With a low growl, Poplarpaw sprang towards the back of the fox and gripped its fluffy tail in his jaws. With all the strength he could summon at that moment, the apprentice yanked the red creature's tail in hopes of stunning it.

Russetpelt got ready to strike again, Mumblepaw did a good number on the fox, and Poplarpaw definitely had a good choice in his battle move. This was a great chance to strike again. He raced at the large orange predator, striking its head several times.

With his eyes squeezed shut, the black and white apprentice clung on for dear life. His tiny claws knotted in the fox's russet fur. He did not dare open his eyes. Already, the thudding in his chest seemed to be overwhelming. The creature writhed underneath him as it was attacked by the rest of the patrol. But, he still did not let go. After all this time, Mumblepaw was finally fighting. He had mustered up the courage to face something that terrified him so immensely. It was too late to flee and cower as he once had. Besides, Eagleheart had told him to be brave. That could not go forgotten.

This was for Crowstar, for Rippedsky, for Whiteheart, and for the rest of the clan. His cowardice had never done anything for him, nor for Skyclan. It was a moment he could not go back on. Even though the anxiety still threatened to overpower him, Mumblepaw did not stop clinging to the coarse fur of the fox. This is how I die... he thought to himself miserable, fearfully. Nonetheless, the apprentice held fast. It was a bold move and far different than anything he had ever done. However, Mumblepaw was not thinking too much into past how incredibly terrified in that moment he was. Images of Crowstar being torn apart played on repeat and he was a challenge to shut them out. Yet, he held on.

Mumblepaw used leap and hold on the fox, dealing 6 damage and using 10 stamina. Fox is still stunned for 2 turns. Take that ya nasty bugger.

Poplarpaw couldn't help but stare at Mumblepaw through narrowed eyes as he attacked the fox once again and pinned the creature down. Was this tailless cat trying just because he had an audience before him? The fluffy tom decided not to think about that right now. Currently, the only thing that mattered was getting this fox off of SkyClan's territory. With a quiet hiss, the brown-and-white tom sprang forwards and scored his claws across the animal's pelt and flesh.
