The green eyed tom glared back at his mentor as the badger writhed beneath them. He loathed the idea of relenting even an inch. Every part of him wanted to rip the Badger apart for what it had done to poor Amberpaw, but there was a small piece of conscience that warned him, told him that he should listen to the older cat. He growled and dug his claws in deep before he finally let go. Once he was safely on the ground, Sedgepaw ran over to Amberpaw. He nudged her gently to check on her wound, uncertain if the cuts were really that deep, or if it was the force of the blow that did it. He turned his head back as a fierce roar erupted from the Badger.

Enough was enough. The Badger shrieked fiercely as it lunged from where it had been pinned, it's large paws swiping to hopefully knock the cat that had been on it into the trunk of a tree. It skirted sideways away from the trunk with a snarl and bared glistening teeth. It was hungry, angry, and Sedgepaw felt terror grip him as it locked a glistening yellow eye on him. He swallowed his alarm, then looked down at Amberpaw. She was defenseless. His attention refocused as he felt the ground beneath him tremble under the weight of the lumbering beast that decided to go after the weaker cat. With a yowl of defiance, Sedgepaw ran away from Amberpaw, his tail dangerously close to jaws that snapped shut in an attempt to grab him as he lunged for a tree and climbed it quickly. He hissed down at the Badger, who turned to attack the one still ripping into it's pelt. It snapped with it's teeth and large lumbering paws at the other tom. With an open target, Sedgepaw leapt from the tree, scoring his claws down the badger's back again before he rushed over to Amberpaw and attempted to grab her by the scruff. If he could carry her up the tree, she'd be safe.

Badger used Heavy Blow on Rippedsky. Sedgepaw used Skydrop on Badger.

Before he could jump out of the way, a massive paw slammed into his side. His entire body was lifted off the and his eyes widened before he slammed into the side of the tree. There was a sickening snap as he was thrown against the frozen bark. Pain radiated from his side and he winced as he made his way up onto his paws. It was hard to ignore the nearly overwhelming sensation that made him want to fall to the ground. But, he couldn't. The deputy needed to protect those apprentices who were at risk of being torn apart by the badger.

Surprisingly, his apprentice seemed to listen and help to get Amberpaw away from the action. However, as he struggled to his paws and blinked his eyes open, the first thing he saw was Sedgepaw leaping onto the black and white creature from above. Frustration caused him to unsheath his claws again. Sedgepaw's bravery was impressive, even if his listening skills were not. In order to keep the badger's focus off his apprentice. The tom charged forward and butted his head into the badger's stomach just hard enough to get its attention. Once it looked at him, the black and white tom reared up and lashed out at the badger, hissing and spitting furiously.

Rippedsky used rear up to slash, dealing 17 damage and using 15 stamina.

Amberpaw's body weight was heavy as Sedgepaw attempted to pull her up into the branches of the tree. His claws dug deep into the bark, his body trembled with effort of pulling her up vertically by her scruff, but eventually he managed it. Sedgepaw nosed at her worriedly, but he couldn't just leave Rippedsky to fight the badger alone. His body jostled as the badger hit the trunk of the tree while it attempted to get at Rippedsky. He peered down at the scene, then looked at Amberpaw. She seemed secure, the branch was thick and strong, unless she pelted off it at full speed, she'd probably be fine. He turned his gaze back on the badger, then leapt down from the safety of the branches. While it's back was turned to him, he clamped his jaws around the beast's tail and pulled. The badger snarled, pulled off balance as Sedgepaw looked up at his mentor with determination.

Sedgepaw used Tail Yank on the badger. Badger is stunned for 1 turn.

The deputy quickly nodded to his apprentice. In the blue depths of his eyes, there was a mixture of emotions there. He feared for the younger tom's life, allowing the frustration to fade away into the adrenaline that pounded through his veins and drove him forwards. Sedgepaw went for the badger's tail and threw it off balance. This was his chance. Using his speed, Rippedsky darted forwards towards the front of the monster. His teeth gritted with every pounding of his paws against the packed snow. It hurt like nothing else. But, the risk of it turning on his apprentice was too much for him to give in. Pain could wait for later.

Letting out another enraged yowl, he kicked off the ground and flew towards its head and smashed his paws on the bicolored snout. Once he landed and regained his footing, paws lashed out to catch the badger's legs and stomach. The speed would always be something he was grateful for due to his lithe frame. A barrage of hisses exploded from the tom's maw. He stood bravely against the badger. Now, instead of it turning towards the younger cat, it would come for him. Rippedsky was ready for it.

Rippedsky used upright lock on the badger dealing 17 damage and using 25 stamina. Badger is no longer stunned.
Rippedsky also used swift strike dealing 7 damage and using 10 stamina.

Sedgepaw didn't try to pull the badger's attention back onto him once Rippedsky attacked. Instead, he wisely leapt towards a large rock the jut out from the ledge he had foolishly leapt over at the beginning. He watched closely as his mentor attacked. His eyes narrowed at the swift speed as he felt a small prickle of envy beneath his pelt. Why hadn't he been taught those moves? Why hadn't Rippedsky just taken him out of camp more to train? Clearly this was his fault. This entire situation could have been avoided if only his mentor would let him do something besides remove ticks and help the elders. He watched the badger lumber towards Rippedsky. He tensed his muscles on the rock he was on. He wasn't a weak apprentice. He'd show his mentor what he could do.

With that thought, he lunged towards the badger as it swiped at Rippedsky. The force of his impact at the badger's side caused its next blow to falter and land harmlessly away as it turned. It's jaws open and tensing, readying itself to bite on the young cat who's claws dug into its side.

Badger used Heavy Blow on Rippedsky. Sedgepaw used Run-and-Tackle on Badger.

Another heavy paw smashed into the side of Rippedsky's head and he stumbled to the side. If it weren't for his apprentice's reckless tackle, there was no doubt the massive black and white beast would have landed another solid blow. He shook his head to clear away the haze that filled his mind. This battle wasn't won yet. His blue eyes widened to see the creature staring down at Sedgepaw, ready for the attack. There was no way the deputy would let that happen. Pain seared through his side from the previous attacks, but he pushed himself forwards and reared up on his hindlegs. A ferocious snarl tore from his throat as he tore at the gashes on the badger's coat and caused the flow of blood to increase.

It did not take much before it toppled to the ground and he watched as its pelt stilled. His sides heaved and the tom grimaced at the horrible feeling every time he took a breath. He knew instantly that he would have to see the medicine cats and so would Amberpaw. Amberpaw! Rippedsky's head snapped up to land his sights on the she-cat. There was a low sigh of relief when he saw the rise and fall of her flank. Even if there was a bit of damage, she was okay for now. Once all of that was taken care of he slowly turned his gaze to the silver tom. His face was hardened and his eyes even more so, all showing disappointment, rage, and hints of gratitude all in one. Holding a steady tone would be difficult between the anger and hurt.

"You deliberately disobeyed me," he rasped in his best mufasa voice lowly, "and because of it, your denmate has been injured. If I had not shown up, the two of you very well could have been dead." Rippedsky shook his head slowly at Sedgepaw before turning away. The tension hung heavy in the air, but before there could be any protests, the deputy turned and flicked his tail towards Amberpaw, "Help get her back to camp. I'm going to drag this... thing." Another low breath escaped him and he winced slightly before embedding his teeth into the thick fur of the badger.

Rippedsky used rear up to slash on the badger, dealing 17 damage and using 15 stamina.

For a moment, Sedgepaw felt fear grip him in its jaws. The badger's mouth open and looming over him. He couldn't think fast enough to move out of the way, he simply wouldn't have time. Green eyes met the shallow yellow and red ones across from him for only a moment before it was suddenly over. The badger fell to the forest floor and Sedgepaw felt a burn in his chest, suddenly he gasped for air. He hadn't even realized he had stopped breathing in fear.

He stared at his mentor as the beast died, all at once immensely glad and yet oddly ashamed. He should have known. He should have used his nose and common sense, but instead, he let his pride get in the way. He turned his head to Amberpaw no the tree. The wound hadn't left any more blood, so he assumed she was okay... well, okay enough. Sedgepaw flinched at Rippedsky's words and turned to face him with a confident stance. He couldn't let him believe that he had been weak for even a moment.

"Who's fault is that?" Sedgepaw meowed, husband tail flicked as he stared back at Rippedsky. "You should have taken me out of camp, not the others! I'll fall behind in my training!" He growled and gestured to Amberpaw. "The camp needed fresh-kill anyways, so what she the big deal?" He asked, though his tone made it clear that he knew he shouldn't have done it, yet it didn't stop him.

The sounds of fighting and growling did not stir the apprentice as her head swam. A single strike of the badger's paw and its long claws tearing across her face, the sheer force of it sending her flying into the snow and her blood immediately splattering and soaking into the snow as she slammed into the ground. Blackness immediately swallowed the untrained apprentice everything passing like a dream, it was quick and it showed glimpses of her own short-lived life.

It was all pulled away from her as she resurfaced to the waking work, a groan pulling itself from her maw as she tried to push herself onto her paws, her head pounding. "Sedgepaw...?" She sputtered, the blood preventing her from opening one of her eyes. "Wuh-?" Amberpaw turned her head awkwardly to look at Rippedsky and the blood that splattered the ground. "What happened?"

"You will train as a warrior when you prove yourself to be ready, instead of reckless. And yes, the clan does need freshkill this is why I have assigned patrols." Rippedsky meowed cooly. His blue eyes bore into the apprentice. The deputy's head jerked around to look at Amberpaw at she spoke. Thank Starclan, she was okay. It hurt to move too much due to the impact his side had taken. But, the warrior couldn't simply collapse. They needed to drag this monstrosity back to camp where its pelt could be used for warmth and some of its meat for food. Getting back to Skyclan's camp would be slow progress. Maybe he could send a couple warriors to retrieve the carcass? It was settled. He abandoned the massive beast and made a mental note to send someone to collect it soon after. Amberpaw was the priority right now.

The she-cat had been equally as mousebrained to leave the camp without a warrior, but there was no way he could chastise her in her current state. Seeing one of the clan's apprentices in such a weakened stay caused him to soften and he meowed, "You took a strong blow, Amberpaw. We're going to get you back to camp and the medicine cats will take care of you..." Rippedsky fastened his teeth into her scruff as gently as he possibly could as to not aggravate her already stressed body. There was so doubt she was feeling much like he was, if not worse. The deputy flicked his tail for Sedgepaw to follow and began to head back to camp. They would worry about his inability to listen later. Amberpaw matter more right now.

Sedgepaw narrowed his eyes at Rippedsky's response but perked up at the sound of Amberpaw's voice. He rushed over to where he had left her, safely at the tree.
"Rippedsky came, now he's having a tantrum." He declared calmly. His mentor's words dug into his mind, but he refused to show that they hurt. Instead, he nudged Amberpaw softly with a sheathed paw. "That badger really got you." The words were murmured and uneasy. He didn't like being the cause of another clanmate's injury. He glared back at Rippedsky, immediately ready to place the blame where it didn't belong. On Rippedsky's shoulders as he huffed arrogantly and padded along beside them.

"Fleabitten beast." Sedgepaw glared back at the badger's body where Rippedsky had left it. He was ready to leave it behind, but the memory of it's slash to Amberpaw's face replayed in his mind. It hurt, he realised, to be the cause of injury. "At least it only got your face. Can you see?" He asked, not realising how crass he was being. It seemed like a valid question. "Mintbreath should be able to fix you up."
