A Skirmish Of The River And Wind {Closed}

Lakewhisper walked side by side with his best friend, Snowblossom, as they headed out to patrol the border between them and WindClan. He wasn't expecting anything. It was just an excuse to spend more time with the beautiful, snowy-white she-cat beside him. With each passing day, he seemed to become more and more attracted to the she-cat, and that feeling scared him. He didn't know what to do with it, so instead of dealing with it, he pushed it away and ignored it as best he could.

He was about to start a conversation, when the scent of fresh WindClan assaulted his nose. "A WindClan patrol is near." He meowed lowly, forcing his bristling fur to lie flat. "Let's keep going. We should keep an eye on them." He suggested, his ear flicking with suspicion. He didn't exactly care for the rabbit-chasers very much, and he was admittedly a bit cautious when it came to them. He remembered stories from the elders of WindClan's former deputy and warriors maiming RiverClan apprentices, and the thought of it sent a shiver of horror and anger up his spine.

Snowblossom padded along beside her best friend, trying to stay alert despite the fact that Lakewhisper was all she wanted to look at. Ever since they were apprentices, she'd liked him- but that like had become a stronger feeling, and she wasn't sure if she knew what to call it, so she tried to ignore it for the time being. She might ask Splashwillow or Shellwater bout it later... they would know about these things. But for the meantime, the young warrior tried not to melt into the tom's soft tabby fur, and settled for walking by him and listening closely as he talked. At the thought of WindClan, she shuddered involuntarily. Shellwater had told her about Lionfur and Smokepelt, and how her and Frogjaw's lives had been ruined. Although Lionfur was dead and Smokepelt demoted, it still sent a chill down her spine at the thought that such warriors were still about- and only a border's cross away. Shivering again, the fluffy white she-cat moved unconsciously closer to Lakewhisper as they walked. He made her feel safe.

Thanks to Brindlewhisker, Silentstrike was now patrolling the moors of WindClan territory. Today was already a great day, because he'd been assigned a patrol with Quailfeather. So now, here he was, walking along the Thunderpath side by side with his mate. He still felt the same way about her as he did from day one, nothing had changed. All that was really on his mind as of late was Quailfeather, Laurelsong, and his adoptive daughter Rookpaw, who had recently been named as an apprentice. He hoped her training was going well, he'd have to talk with Brindlewhisker about that later. The only thing distracting him at the moment was the scent of RiverClan, mixed with the repulsive stench of the Thunderpath. He hoped that they had just passed by and that they wouldn't meet. Of course, they'd try to settle it peacefully, but one never knew when something might happen and a fight could break out. "I think there might be a RiverClan patrol nearby, let's just watch carefully." He said in a husky voice, smiling at Quailfeather.

Walking next to her mate, Quailfeather was always happy. Life had been good lately. Laurelsong was still doing well, Fernfeather had recovered, and Rookpaw was doing well in her training. Although many of her Clanmates smelled war on the air, what with ever-bloodthirsty RiverClan's defeat of ThunderClan, the senior warrior was content to relax. If war did come, she'd be the first to fight on WindClan's side, but there was no point worrying in the meantime. A long, relaxing patrol with her mate was the perfect way to spend an afternoon. Leaf-bare sunshine on her pelt, grass soft beneath her feet, sky the same shade of pristine blue as her eyes... though cold, the territory was beautiful. It wasn't as amazing as Silentstrike. However, her perfect moment was marred by the fishy smell of RiverClan on the other side of the Thunderpath. Her mate was right- the scent was stronger than usual; a patrol was nearby. Years of prejudice towards the other Clan who had caused her father's demotion made her fur bristle a little bit, and her long tail whipped from side to side behind her. However, with Silentstrike at her side, she could tackle anything- even all of RiverClan, if need be. It was only two cats that came into her line of sight, though- a silver tabby tom with dark stripes, and a smaller, fluffy white she-cat, sticking close as a leech to the tom's side. Quailfeather had to keep a snort of laughter inside at their appearance. "Look," she muttered to her mate, "it's a couple of fish."

Snowblossom shrank back a little bit as the WindClan patrol came into view. It was only two cats, about senior warrior age- a light gray tabby and then a darker speckled she-cat. The appearance of the two didn't frighten her so much as the look in the she-cat's blue eyes. It was almost as if the enemy cat were looking for a fight. With all the war in the forest, only WindClan would want more bloodshed. She supposed that was why they had sided with ThunderClan so readily. At the words of the gray she-cat, who was obviously not even attempting to keep her insults a secret, the young warrior tried not to flinch. She had never gotten used to the look that other Clan cats had in their eyes when they met at the border. Memories of her first ever patrol as an apprentice, and the way it had developed into a skirmish, flooded her head. Lakewhisper had been there too- that was when she had first met him, in fact. Hopefully, it wouldn't come to that this time as well. However, it was hard to keep a warm flush of embarrassment off of her face at the WindClanner's words. Her deep green eyes glanced down at the grass below, fluffy white tail self-consciously swept around her legs.

Lakewhisper was well prepared to ignore the scrawny rabbit-munchers, but their taunts quickly angered him. Shaking his head slightly, he continued to force his fur to lay flat, and he pressed into Snowblossom comfortingly. He knew she must be remembering their first skirmish as apprentices together just as he was, and he vowed silently to make sure nothing happened to her. The older WindClan she-cat seemed to be vying for a fight, and he would take her up on it had Snowblossom not been there. Nobody disrespected his clan in the way that she was, but he knew his companion was not too keen on fighting. Instead, he settled for a low warning growl. "Watch your tongue, rabbit-chaser." He meowed, his piercing amber gaze narrowed and sharp claws flexing.

Silentstrike's thick tabby fur stood on end when the RiverClanners came into view, his ears perked and his eyes were alert. He was hoping that they wouldn't pay any attention to what she had said, even though he had to admit, what she said had some truth to it. The toms next words threw him off-tilt. He would not stand for it. No one got to talk to Quailfeather in such a way, he wasn't allowed to! His eyes narrowed as his ears lay flat against his skull. "Why don't you speak with a little more respect, youngster?" The senior warrior hissed towards the smaller RiverClan tom. He hoped this wouldn't turn into a skirmish, but if this tom continued to talk to Quailfeather like that, he would turn it into one. "Why don't you and your little mate run on home and actually get something done. Maybe caring for the elders will suit you well?" The tom sneered and turned back towards Quialfeather, smiling weakly. "Come on, let's leave those fish-brains to it."

Quailfeather's eyes narrowed at the tom's response, but secretly she was a little glad. While she hadn't been looking for a fight, she'd never pass up an opportunity to teach a RiverClan cat a lesson. With Silentstrike by her side, those young mouse-brains would be no problem. Her thin white-tipped tail lashed behind her, and her frosty blue eyes glared into the enemy tom's amber ones. "Or what? You and that little puff couldn't hurt anything if you tried. You're all fur and no claws- or are you just fat from feasting on fish? Honestly, if all of RiverClan's warriors are like you, how did you beat ThunderClan? Oh yeah- by murdering one of their apprentices and taking cats hostage." The senior warrior looked back to Silentstrike. "They're not worth our time," she agreed dismissively, flicking her tail derogatorily in the other cats' direction. She knew, however, that her insults would likely bring a fight- and if they did, it would be RiverClan crossing the border.

Snowblossom's face grew hotter as the two WindClan cats insulted them both. Fish. Fish-brain. Little puff. No claws. Fat. It seemed strange to her that the tom thought she and Lakewhisper were mates- and that was one of the ideas that made her blush hardest- but, as far as she knew, they were just very good friends. Aside from the personal remarks, one of the things that got to her was that she had spoken of the RiverClan elder, Shellwater, unkindly. This was a WindClan cat, probably related to Smokepelt or Lionfur, and their injustices against RiverClan were innumerable, including scarring then-apprentice Shellwater for life. Though she was usually the last person to fight, the fluffy young warrior's claws unsheathed in a haze of anger. "How dare you, after what you did to RiverClan cats?!" she cried out, springing for the gray speckled she-cat. However, the tom- her mate?- jumped in the way instead, so her claws bowled him over onto the grass.

Lakewhisper's eyes widened in shock and confusion for a split second as the words of the older tom hit his ears. My.. mate? But Snowblossom.. We're.. He cut his thoughts short as he glanced at the white cat beside him before his gaze snapped back up to the old she-cat. His features contorted into a nasty snarl, and he bunched his muscles, ready to leap at the hate-spitting she-cat when Snowblossom beat him to it. He was stunned for only a moment before he leaped into action.

The tom had jumped in front of what he now assumed to be his mate, therefore taking an attack from Snowblossom. These foolish Windclanners.. He though, his pelt prickling in irritation. With a ferocious yowl, he pounced onto Quailfeather's back while raking his claws across her back. "WindClan should really learn to control their elders." He hissed, his amber eyes furious.

Lakewhisper used Leap-and-hold on Quailfeather dealing 9 damage and stunning her for 2 turns

Silentstrike leaped in front of Quailfeather, taking any blow that was intended for her. He wished that he could protect her from the black and white tom, but the she-cat prevented him from doing that. He hissed back at the small cat in front of him, looking back to Quailfeather to make sure that she was alright. He had her pinned, but if Silentstrike knew anything about her, it was that she could hold her own. "RiverClan needs to make sure their fish-brained apprentices don't leave camp without a warrior." The senior warrior yowled in response to what the tom had said. He leaped forward, grabbing hold of Snowblossom's scruff and holding on tight. He shook her smaller body back and forth, throwing her to the ground with a thud. She'd definitely need to recuperate.

Silentstrike used Scruff Shake, dealing 8 damage and using 25 Stamina. Snowblossom is stunned for 1 turn.

Quailfeather blinked as the poofy white she-cat rushed at her first, only to be blocked by Silentstrike. She wouldn't have expected her to attack before the tom. Speaking of whom- almost immediately after his friend, the other RiverClan cat leapt onto her back, pinning her down with his claws and snarling something in the way of an insult. The gray she-cat glanced back at her mate to make sure he was all right- good, he already had the enraged cloud pinned down- before turning her attention back to the matter at paw. "Control?" she snorted, attempting to break free. "You're the ones who crossed the border. Just like RiverClan to be so hypocritical. Fox-heart."

Quailfeather is stunned for one more turn.

As mean as they had been, attacking the two WindClan cats was probably a mistake. Snowblossom let out a cry of pain as the large tabby tom grabbed her roughly by the scruff and threw her to the ground. A ringing filled her ears, and the world swam before her vision, but she still managed to hear the tom's insult. She knew that she had to get up or the senior warrior would beat her into the ground, but her legs refused to work. Finally she forced herself to get up, legs shaky, green eyes fierce and determined. She would defend herself as best she could. "If our apprentices... go out alone," she got out in response, still trying to get her bearings, "then cats... like you will... injure them for life, huh? Just like... Shellwater." She just hoped Lakewhisper would be okay.

Snowblossom is no longer stunned.

Silentstrike ignored whatever it was the little white she-cat had to say, focusing only on whatever it was that he would do next. He looked back to Quailfeather once again, as he most likely would throughout the entire fight. He just couldn't' stand the thought of that tom hurting her, and if he did, he would suffer twice as hard as she did. He had her pinned down still, but if he didn't do something about the RiverClanner in front of him, she'd just pin him down, rendering him useless. His mind bounced back and forth before he ran towards the smaller cat, rearing onto his hind legs as soon as he got to her. He slashed at her face with unsheathed claws, scratching her face and leaving cuts across her face.

Silentstrike used Rear-up to Slash, dealing 17 damage and using 15 Stamina.

Lakewhisper let out a furious snarl at the older she-cat's comment, but didn't say anything. He didn't have time to be conversing with old WindClan flea-bags. The white and black-striped tom continued lashing his claws across the gray she-cats flank.

Lakewhisper continued to use Leap-and-Hold on Quailfeather, dealing 9 HP and 10 SP.
