Some Explaining to Do (CLOSED)

Sweetheart huffed as her name was mentioned as one of the cats who couldn't be trusted by her own leader. Well, fine. If she'd rather risk her warriors for another war just for the sake of her own silly pride, so be it. She wasn't going to fight for RiverClan anyway. In fact, she wasn't going to fight for anyone but those she felt deserved to be fought for.

Her apprentice's gaze caught her own, and her irritation was immediately replaced with shame. She knew Scorchpaw must be having so many thoughts running through his head right now. After all, what apprentice could possibly begin to fathom that their own mentor couldn't be trusted by their own Clan leader? Her gaze saddened, and she began to approach him, ignoring everything else that went on around her. All that mattered to her was that Scorchpaw understood her side of the story, and that he didn't hate her.

"Scorchpaw..." she began, but she seemed to have trouble finding the right words to explain how she was feeling. She sighed. "Scorchpaw, I know this must hurt you, knowing that your own mentor isn't trusted by the Clan leader. But I did nothing wrong. All I did was disagree with her before the Sunningrocks war. Nutfur, Spotpaw, Heronpaw, and I all believe that what Ivystar is doing is wrong, so she's probably afraid we'll turn our backs on the Clan when she needs us most. But that won't happen." At least not as far as anyone else knew. "I'm a strong believer of peace and fairness. But Ivystar didn't like what any of us had to say, and that's why she doesn't seem to trust us. I hope you can understand."

(OOC: Yeah, I didn't know how to start this topic, either, so I just copied and pasted my post from the meeting. XD)

Scorchpaw flattened his ears slightly as his mentor approached him. His green eyes bored into her yellow ones as he listened to what the brown warrior had to say. What he heard did not seem to make things much better. "Peace?" He snarled."Is your desire for peace so strong that you would sacrifice your clan?!" Did not every cat wish for peace? Yet sometimes peace was impossible. Sometimes, a cat had to fight. Scorchpaw could not believe that his mentor would say such a thing. "I didn't know you were such a coward, Sweetheart."

Sweetheart flinched as if he had just scored his claws into her muzzle. Her own apprentice thought of her as a coward. She shook her head, trying to keep her voice from desperately squeaking. "Scorchpaw, I am not a coward. All that had ever happened was before the Sunningrocks battle, when Ivystar declared war on ThunderClan, that we try to find a more peaceful solution to solve the problem. ThunderClan's forest is gone and they needed more hunting ground to survive; without five Clans in the forest everything would become unbalanced. I did fight for my Clan regardless during the battle, but then Ivystar captured their medicine cat, leaving them with barely any way to survive their battle wounds.

"You have to understand, Scorchpaw," Sweetheart pleaded softly. "I do want what's best for the Clan. But I want what's best for all the Clans, too. Why does compassion have to be so wrong?..."

"If ThunderClan is destroyed just because of a couple empty stomachs, that just goes to show that they are weak. Why should we show concern for them?" Scorchpaw could not understand why Sweetheart would hold such sympathy towards ThunderClan, and that was what frustrated him. They were just a bunch of shrub-dwelling squirrel munchers. Who cared what happened to them? To Scorchpaw, RiverClan was the most important clan, the only important clan. "We don't need ThunderClan in this forest. In fact, we might even be better off without them." Sweetheart pleaded with him to understand, but somehow he felt like he did not want to. Her eyes and her voice, trying so desperately to get him to see things from her point of view--all of a sudden, he wanted to get away from her.

Sweetheart sighed softly. It seemed she just couldn't find a way to convince him that how she felt was... well, right. She couldn't blame him for having the same mindset as Ivystar and most of the other cats, he was still young and loyal to only RiverClan. She, like Nutfur, Heronpaw, and Spotpaw, were loyal to justice and righteousness, and that was too difficult to convince another cat to believe in if they didn't already it seemed.

"Well... I still haven't betrayed RiverClan yet. So don't go thinking that I'm disloyal just because I have a different opinion from most other cats. I don't know if my opinion is right or wrong to most others, but it feels right to me. But I will still fight for my Clan to the death if necessary." But would she?... After all, she's still expecting kits, and she didn't want to fight for something she didn't believe in. She pushed the thoughts away.

Scorchpaw swished his bushy tail from side to side as he listened to his mentor. When she was finished, he opened his mouth to speak. He felt that he should say something, but he neither knew what he wanted to say or had the words to. What more was there he could say? Sweetheart had said that she was still loyal to RiverClan, after all. After a few moments of inner struggling, Scorchpaw finally decided to give up. "Alright." He mewed. Until she had really shown herself to be disloyal to RiverClan, Sweetheart was still his mentor. He would go on treating her like he had been. With conflicting feelings, the tom turned and went into the apprentice's den.
