A Bright Beginning (Open)

Rook-kit yawned as she woke up from her sunhigh nap. She had been nestled in the nursery with the other kits and her mother, Quailfeather, but it was time to get up and go play. The black-spotted kit marched into the center of camp (despite the frost and snow), looking for trouble to get into. The sun hung high in the sky and shone warm rays onto her back. It was perfect weather to play in. So, where were the cats?

Wolfpaw sat on a rock, watching Rookkit as she looked around. "Who're you looking for?" He asked, tilting his head to show it was a genuine question. Rookkit wasn't exactly the oldest kit in the nursery, so he hadn't had much time to study her personality.

Softpaw jolted at the sound of Wolfpaw talking, and looked over to find the fellow apprentice speaking with a young kit. As usual, only by remembering his sister Fernfeather's urging to "Get to know your fellow clanmates!" did Softpaw find enough courage to approach the two. "Hello." He mewed shyly as he padded through the snow. "H-how are you, Wolfpaw? And who is this kitten?" Softpaw turned to the kitten and a sweet smile crossed his face. "Hi. I'm Softpaw. And you are?"

Silentstrike emerged from the hollow where the warriors slept, stretching himself out and heading towards the fresh kilo pile. Quailfeather and himself had recently taken in a kitten nammed Rookkit, and when he saw her out in the middle of camp, he was a little confused. What was she doing out in the snow? He stopped by the fresh kill pile, swiping up the first rabbit he saw. He walked towards her, a warm smile on his face. “Hey, Rookkit. Would you like to share a rabbit with me?” He dropped the rabbit in front of the small kit, nodding at all the apprentices nearby.

She saw the rabbit and her eyes widened extensively. Her favorite prey! "Yes!" Rook-kit squeaked, overjoyed. She loved rabbits and she loved her father, Silentstrike. Pairing the two together was just too perfect! It did not matter how scrawny the prey was, though, it was much too big for her alone, so she would have to share it regardless.

Wolfpaw smiled at Softpaw. "Hi Softpaw!" He said. "This is Rookkit. Silentstrike is her father." He looked back at excited little Rookkit. "That rabbit looks pretty big, Rookkit." He noticed. "Must have been Silentstrike that caught it. Maybe it runs in the family, and you'll be a great hunter." He was trying to prompt some enthusiasm for being an apprentice. Surely she was excited enough already, and it seemed like she couldn't be happier. Rookkit was full of surprises though. Maybe she really could become happier.
