Two kits have greencough

Flickerkit had finally made it to the medicine cat's den after a long time of trying to. After the final struggle to get in, she had a coughing fit bigger than the rest. She was exhausted but couldn't seem to clear her lungs.

Dappledkit was in next, coughing like crazy. He was ashamed that his father had to carry him, but he stood a small chance of dying anyways. His head seemed to swim as he looked about him, his heart trying desperately to keep up with the rate he was breathing at. He was much more concerned for Flickerkit, but there was nothing he could do but lay there, his face pressed into the moss so his coughs wouldn’t get others ill too. His tiny chest heaved and shook with the weight of his sickness, and he coughed and coughed until his throat felt like it was on fire.

Maplepaw quickly made her way over to the two kits with herbs in her mouth. She set them all down and quickly moved the weak kits to a more secluded area of the den. She comforted them like a mother would before reaching for the necessary herbs. She took some Chickweed, which treated greencough, a small bit of Tansy, which helped with coughs and soothed sore throats, and finally some juniper berries, which gave strength, eased breathing, and calmed. The apprentice then tore the Chickweed and Tansy into small pieces and mushed the Juniper berries so the mixture would be easier for the kits to chew up and eat. Maplepaw made two small mixtures for both kits. She first went to Flickerkit, who looked like the one who got affected the worst. She began to press the herbal mixture into Flickerkit's mouth. Maplepaw thought ahead and made sure to acquire some honey and to add a bit of it into the mixture to make the swallowing easier and a bit more delightful. It luckily also soothed coughing and gave energy. "Flickerkit, make sure to slowly chew. I don't want you to choke sweetie." she said with a calming voice. After making sure the kit had eaten the mixture, she went over to Dappledkit. She did the same to the tiny tom. After both the kits had eaten the herbs, she placed down some moss with fresh water so they could drink. "Okay you two. Please drink a bit of water if you can. The herbs will take effect soon and you'll be feeling much better soon!" she purred enthusiastically. The apprentice gathered up the rest of the herbs she didn't use and began to sort them and clean up. The young she-cat kept an eye on the kits.

HEECK I DIDN'T SEE THIS SORRY))

Newtpaw carried a mouse into the den, looking around the dim den for the two kits. Why was StarClan cruel enough to do this now? They'd already sent them into an unwinnable battle! He felt blood dripping down his maw and unclenched his jaws in order to not crush the mouse anymore than he already did. He ignored the look Wildpaw gave him and headed in the direction of Maplepaw's voice. "Here, we just came back from hunting when we noticed the kits couching. All the prey is rather skinny but, they'll certainly need to eat." He meowed, dropping the mouse and licking his maw clean of blood. He felt Wildpaw shoved him aside.

"Will they be alright?" Wildpaw asked with an anxious tone. She sounded angry in the midst of her stress. She looked at her siblings, they should be all hunting together not in this den still with their kit ranks!

Maplepaw looked up when she saw somebody coming in. She listened to Newtpaw and nodded in understanding. "Thank you Newtpaw for bringing them something to eat." she thanked him sincerely. She was a bit startled at Wildpaw's entrance but she gave her a gentle smile. "I'm confident they'll be alright! Luckily I had just enough herbs to treat them. I am running out though." she spoke softly. The medicine cat apprentice pushed the mouse closer to the two kits, which were now warm and they looked a bit better too. "Here little ones. Eat this mouse Newtpaw hunted for you." she said in a motherly voice.

Flickerkit looked up at Maplepaw gratefully and followed her directions to chew slowly. Once she had swallowed the herbs she licked up the water to wash them down. She swallowed a few times and cleared her throat. She continued to cough a little, but it wasn't nearly as bad as before. Then she looked up at Newtpaw and Wildpaw. "Thanks for the mouse. I'm sure we'll be-" She paused to cough a few times. "We'll be fine." She took a little bite of mouse. Never tasted so good. She thought.

Dappledkit nodded, glad she had treated his sister first. Her cough was obviously worse than his. He slowly ate the herbal mixture, and felt it soothe his throat and slow his coughs. He looked up gratefully when Wildpaw and Newtpaw arrived. He opened his mouth to say something, but Flickerkit had said it all for him. He blinked his thanks to Maplepaw, still coughing a little, but it felt so much better. He lapped up a couple mouthfuls of crisp, cool water from the moss. Thank StarClan the others didn’t catch this sickness. He thought, pausing to press his face into the ground as another coughing fit came. It definitely felt better and not as harsh this time. He looked up again, his eyes watering slightly. ”Thanks, Maplepaw. Like Flickerkit said, we’ll be fi-“ He broke off to cough once more. ”Fine. We’ll be fine.” Thankfully, he paused coughing for long enough to eat a little bit of mouse. With Maplepaw here, he was much calmer than before. Flickerkit would be fine.
