Well shoot

It was early; the sky was dyed vivid array of colors that ranged from a light, pleasant pinkish-peach to a bright, bold golden color. A few clouds scuttled across the horizon, but it seemed that the snowstorm had finally blown itself out.
Meanwhile, Sharptooth was resting in the nursery unhappily. 'What's the point of waiting in the nursery when there's work to be done?'
She felt a stab of guilt as something shifted deep inside her belly. Nobody would know about the kit's true father. The stupid tom didn't truly care for her. If he did, he wouldn't go and get himself captured by Twolegs.
Sharptooth stirred and tried to get to her feet, but quickly sat down, a mixture of confusion and pain on her face. She barely suppressed a hiss as a rippling pain shot through her side.
"Argh... wha-?" She struggled out of the nursery, the pain nearly unbearable. What was happening to her? "Agh! Shrewheart! Honeyspark! H-help!"

At the sound of his mate's cry, Shrewheart awoke in an instant. Happiness flooded through him for a few moments. He was a father now! Realizing that he should probably be at Sharptooth's side, he trotted out of the den and into the nursery. Confusion filled his mind for a heartbeat, seeing that the kits weren't there yet. Then he realized that she meant they were about to come. Sitting down, he realized just how much pain she was in, and felt a bit sad."I'm sorry you have to go through this, but you're going to be okay. Aren't you excited to be a mother?"

Sharptooth grunted as Shrewheart joined her and she smiled weakly. "Trust me, I'll be excited when all of this is over."
The fluffy she-cat's sides rippled and her fur stood on end as she ran her claws through the soft dirt of the nursery, hissing every so often.

It was late afternoon now. The sun shone weakly on the forest, filtering through the trees and making the snow sparkle beautifully. Although it was Leafbare, Sharptooth felt like the luckiest she-cat in the world.
Honeyspark hadn't come- she probably had better things to do. Sharptooth didn't let that thought irk her though. Not now.
"Oh..." She cooed, looking down at them. "Aren't you precious..."
She nosed through them, counting each. One, two, three, four, five, six beautiful kits. The fluffy she-cat purred softly. "Flickerkit." She mewed gently, licking the firstborn's head. "And Dewkit," She gently nudged the second-eldest, a pretty silver tabby. "Wildkit, of course. And Dappledkit, how lovely. Let's see... Shrewheart, could you name the last two?"

The newly born tom let out a small whimper. Although he couldn't see anything, he could smell so many new scents. It was overpowering. The brown tabby was cold. He lifted an overly large paw, and swiped it through the air in an attempt to find something. Anything. He found something warm, slowly shuffling towards the comforting smell of warm milk. The newly named Dappledkit pressed his furry cheek to the source of warmth, and almost jumped backwards in surprise. There was a steady beating. Thump, thump. Thump, thump. The kit was listening to his mother's heartbeat. He was...confused. Why was it so different to the beating from his own chest? He could hear it ring through his ears as he moved his head away, and he gave a tiny, faint whimper of fear. His own heartbeat felt irregular and spontaneous next to that of his mother's. How strange. Dappledkit was tired, so she shuffled closer to the warm body that was his mother, his eyes still closed the entire time.

The birthing was literally the weirdest thing Shrewheart had ever watched happen. And he had been mauled by a cat made out of mist. He was kind of disappointed Honeyspark hadn't come, but they had Sharptooth had been able to manage. The whole process had taken quite a while, during which the sky had change from a soft beautiful golden hue to a bright and clear shade of blue. Now at his mate's side lay six tiny, adorable little newborn kits. He listened as she named the first four. They all seemed appropriate, even if he couldn't find reason to name one of them Dewkit. Looking at the other two, he wondered what to name them.
"How about this one is Featherkit," he offered, placing his paw down next to the light red tabby. He had feathery fur, and his tabby markings reminded him of feathers as well. Looking at the final kit, he decided to give the final one a long name. "And I think Wisteriakit would be good for this one."

Featherkit squirmed uncomfortably. The cold of the nursery was a harsh shock compared to the warmth he was used to. He scrambled blindly next to Dappledkit, resisting on the tomkit's stubby tail as he wormed in closer to his mother. Nothing was more important to him than warmth and milk.

The ginger she-cat was hard to miss as she made millions of little noises and then some loud shrills when she got lost. Wildkit struggled around her many siblings, a little smaller than usual but nothing to worry about. With blind scrabbling, she drew herself nearer to the warmth of the rest of the litter and her mother, copying the others. However, she was blocked by Featherkit. She let out an offended squeak. A weak nudge and a loud mew didn't work so she did the next thing that came to her hazy mind, she bit his tail.

Flickerkit flung out her paws, blind to the world. She hit fur(Sharptooth and Wisteriakit) and pulled har paws back. She scrabbled around, falling out of the nest, but she kept going.

Featherkit yowled and mewled blindly at the bite, wriggling away from it and blindly pawing back at the offending Wildkit, his little white paws doing nothing to deter her, before finding contentment in a place between her and Dappledkit.

The ginger-and-white kit, the newly-named Wisteriakit, let out a high-pitched and pathetic wail as soon as she was let out into the world. She immediately felt something ram into her and she let out a squeak of shock and fear. Her tiny paws weakly dragged her towards her mother as she attempted to latch on the suckle. She felt the fur of other tiny bodies on either side of her, and she could feel the warmth that radiated from her mother. Wisteriakit began to suckle and put the warm milk into her small, frail body.

OOC:Um Featherkit cannot be by Flickerkit, she's crawling around after falling out of the nest.

Dappledkit felt some cat rest on his stubby little tail, and he twitched it in experiment. He crawled closer to his mother, pressing as close as possible to the source of heat. He didn't suckle like his other siblings, he was scared and confused. That seemed like the least important thing right now. Instead, he lifted his tiny pink nose into the air and sniffed. A whole array of new scents hit his nose, and he let out a sneeze, shooting his tiny body backwards, further into the nursery. He let out a quiet, pitiful whimper as he struggled closer to his mother. Again, he rested his cheek on her chest, listening to her heart, and again drew back. Why was it so different? Even his newborn kit could sense something was not right here. He struggled to find a place that was not full of other cats, and listened. He strained as hard as he could to hear the beating that was occurring in his own body. What a clever kit. The results made hm whimper again. It was almost like there was no pattern, no rhythm, like there was with the others. Another thing...it was so quiet. He guessed why, it was because it was inside him. Dappledkit paid no attention, because now he was hungry. He struggled back to the warm body of the queen and nursed, after finding a little gap inbetween two of the other kits.
