Dewkit's Apprentice Ceremony

The deputy shook the snow in the willow branch before giving a new announcement. "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey, gather beneath the willow branch for a clan meeting!" He mewed loudly, trying to not look too much into the eyes of his clanmates because that made him feel even more nervous. Instead, his green eye searched for the chosen kit of this day, Dewkit. She was now big enough to be an apprentice so in the future, she would become a proper Riverclan warrior. The clan was getting stronger each day during this leafbare.

Dewkit shook the fur off her fluffy grey coat. She knew it was going to be her time soon, time to make her parents proud and to finally make that closer step to becoming a warrior. She walked forward, lining herself up with the front row of gathered cats, and watched Jaystream with hope that this was what she was waiting for.

"Dewkit, you have reached the age of six moons, and now it is time for you to be apprenticed. From now on you will be known as Dewpaw until you're ready to become a warrior. Your mentor will be Lilytail. Don't misjudge by her young age. She's a strong and valuable warrior of our clan an I'm sure she'll teach you how to be the best warrior you can be." After saying that to the hopefully young she-cat, his sight turned to the white-furred warrior as he jumped off the branch before she could go with the apprentice. "I-I know is your first apprentice, but I-I'm sure you'll do it great." He said a bit shyly with a smile, troubled by the idea that she might be bothered because he gave her a young cat to train. He left the crowd without expecting an answer and smiled friendly at Dewpaw before going. Why am I always so weak when I talk to the other warriors? I'm the deputy... I should have more confidence after all...

Lilytail's eyes widened in suprise. Her mouth curved into a smile. She was thrilled to have her first apprentice and this early in her warriorhood too! She began to walk to Dewpaw but not before being stopped by Jaystream. She nodded respectfully and gratefully at Jaystream's words. Soon she was in front of Dewpaw, heart leaping for joy. She touched her nose to the younger's and let a happy purr escape. "Training will begin tomorrow, Dewpaw. Make sure to rest because you'll need as much energy as you can have for our time tomorrow." she told the apprentice. Afterwards, Lilytail walked away, still excited for getting her apprentice.

Dewpaw raised her head proudly,  a shy smile on her face as she stepped forward. She nodded appropriately her blue eyes seeking out the warrior. The kind looking warrior she saw step forward was a far cry from one of the other more hardened ones. The relief showed as she relaxed and stepped forward to touch noses with her mentor, nodding her head with a grateful smile.

"I will." She purred happily. The reality of it sinking in. She was an apprentice now... an actual apprentice! The days of being a kit were finally over. A small she watched her mentor walk away, a slow feeling of unease crept in. Was she ready for this?
