C'mon let's go! (Open hunting patrol)

Patchpaw was sitting in front of the camp entrance with a bored expression. The she-cat wanted to go on a hunting patrol but most of the warriors were busy or are in a patrol. Her sister Russetpaw was next to her, a neutral expression on her face. She hoped someone would take them out soon.

Russetpaw rolled her eyes as Patchpaw sighed for the 100th time. She didn't really care to go on a hunting patrol but her sister dragged her into this and there was no way out. She wished she could be on her own, away from everybody for a little while.

Lilacfall made her way over to the apprentices. "Looking to join a patrol, are you?" she asked in her soft voice. "You wouldn't happen to need a warrior, would you? ...Where are your mentors?" she mused, curious.

She hadn't been on a hunting patrol in what felt like an eternity, with her own apprentice preferring to focus on battle training and keeping an eye on her kits. But at the moment she had nothing to do, and if these two apprentices' mentors were too busy to take them hunting, well... She wouldn't mind stepping in. She still had to live up to the promise she made herself so many moons earlier - to become the best hunter ShadowClan had ever seen.

Patchpaw sprung to her paws. "O-Oh thank you Lilacfall! We would really appriciate a warrior!" she said gratefully. The she-cat's eyes showed a bit of sadness. "W-Well our mentors are always busy so we don't train or hunt too often." The apprentice appreciated her mentor but he was never really there.

Russetpaw huffed and got up too. She looked around boredly while listening to Patchpaw speak to Lilacfall. Her eyes narrowed and she let out a growl. "Maybe our mentors are too LAZY to train us!" she spat. She was soon sent a glare and a shove from Patchpaw. The she-cat rolled her eyes and looked at Lilacfall. "Thank you for taking us. Maybe you should be OUR mentor instead." she said sincerly.

Firestone walked to the group nodding at the other warrior as a greeting. Then, he turned his green eyes to the two younger she-cats. "Oh, come on girls. Don't be so rude to your mentors. They might be busy and they have other duties to do, not only training you. But thanks to Starclan, Lilacfall and I are here, right?" He purred winking flirtily at the she-cat before turning back his attention to the apprentices. "My apprentice is almost a warrior so maybe I could help too, right? Is not like I have something important to do right now and a good hunting patrol would be perfect for stretching a bit my legs." The flame-furred tom showed a smile to the other cats but it was fake. Only his family could see how much he was suffering because of his code-breakers parents but he preferred to stay strong in front of cats that weren't close to him. They didn't deserve to see him in his weakest moment and he wasn't going to be vulnerable in front of them. His pride wouldn't allow that.

Patchpaw gave the two warriors a smile. "S-Sorry. I-I never meant to be mean." she said while shyly playing with her paws. After a few moments, her face perked up. She looked over at Firestone and Lilacfall with a grin. "C'mon let's go! I wanna catch a bunch of prey!" she giggled. The apprentice took a few steps forward before looking back at the group. "Are we ready?" she asked.

Russetpaw let out a grumble before looking away. The she-cat wasn't interested in being "nice" to her neglectful mentor. She was about to speak her mind but Patchpaw began to speak. She rolled her eyes and impatiently waited for her sister to be done talking and to lead them out. She really didn't want Firestone here but she wasn't about to say that out loud. "Okay Okay! We're ready!" she hissed impatiently to answer Patchpaw's question.

"Then let's go, shall we?" Lilacfall asked, though she didn't move, instead looking to Firestone - he was older and more experienced, and in her eyes whatever his code-breaking parents might have done wasn't his fault. Besides, she had next to no experience with leading a patrol, and perhaps she could learn more by observation.

The warrior smiled at the two sisters' excitement, remembering how he and his brother used to be when they had their age. His green eyes looked at the younger warrior and he nodded. "Yes! Let's go already or we'll get our paws frozen with this cold weather." The large and stocky warrior led the patrol with the three she-cats following him.

Firestone's big paws sunk into the snow as he walked, making it more difficult to walk but not impossible. He didn't dislike leafbare at all but he wasn't too comfortable about it since they had to do more daily hunting patrols and the cold always brought illness or the weaker ones. That's why he and the other warrior had to stay strong and be a support for everyone in the clan.

After some time walking, the warrior smelled the air one more time, discovering that where they were had a bunch of prey near. "Okay, I think this would be a good place to start, don't you think? Patchpaw, you hunt with me on this side and Russetpaw, you go with Lilacfall, okay? Be sure to hunt a lot before it gets too late."

The warrior looked at the shyer apprentice with a grin and then flicked his tail, telling her to follow him to a dead fallen tree where he could smell some prey. "Go and have fun hunting, Patchpaw. I'll be doing my job next to you so don't mind me too much." He purred before following the scent of a near rodent.

"Come on, Russetpaw," Lilacfall called behind her as she padded through the snow. The chill didn't bother her much due to her long, fluffy fur, and she enjoyed the feeling of the snow beneath her paws. Thus far, Leaf-bare was proving to be her favorite season.

She led the way a little bit further from the other two, eventually coming to a halt. "This place looks alright to me. Why don't you go first?"

Patchpaw nodded with a shy smile and followed Firestone. After a few moments passed, she finally found some prey she could catch. The apprentice soon found herself stalking a lizard. Her paws made very little noise as she neared the sleek prey. She wasted no time in pouncing once she got close enough. She caught it and soon hid it somewhere safe. The she-cat scented another critter and went to look for it.

Russetpaw said nothing after she separated from her sister and began to follow Lilacfall. Once the two she-cats reached a suitable location, she nodded at the warrior and began to look for some prey. The white and ginger she-cat eventually came across a distracted mouse. She got low and readied herself. Soon, the apprentice pounced. Russetpaw was successful in catching the mouse and hid it. She went to go look for another piece of prey to hunt.

Firestone left the side of the apprentice when he noticed she was doing it perfectly. His eyes fixed on the small figure of a rodent moving around in a bush, probably searching for food.  He crouched down, hiding in the snow, and approached the small animal with careful steps until he was finally close enough. The large warrior jumped toward it and caught it swiftly with his claws. The warrior grabbed the mouse by the scruff and returned to Patchpaw's, burying his piece of prey next to hers. "Good catch, Patchpaw. Keep doing like that." He purred winking.

Lilacfall purred at the apprentice's success as she caught the scent of a frog. She fell into a hunting crouch, moving slowly in its direction, careful as she moved over the snow. As she drew near it, she prepared to pounce, and finally did so. Her cautious movements paid off, as she caught it in her paws and delivered a swift bite to its... Neck? Did frogs have anything that could really be considered a neck? The closest thing to a neck she could find, anyway, and buried it in a familiar spot - somewhere she knew she wouldn't forget.

Patchpaw looked away flustered at the praise directed at her. She began to scent a mouse not to far away. She got a bit closer and got into a crouching position. The apprentice pounced once close enough. Patchpaw quickly caught it and killed it. She hid it with the lizard and decided to catch one more piece of prey.

Russetpaw looked at Lilacfall with a tiny smile. She felt proud of herself for catching that so flawlessly. The apprentice soon began to stalk a frog. Once Russetpaw got close enough, she pounced. The apprentice let out a sigh of relief that she caught it. She made sure to hide it and soon was on her way to scenting out another.
