Ooo, He Stealin'! (CLOSED / SOLO)

Scorchpaw narrowed his eyes on his prey, which was busy trying to salvage nuts and seeds from the snow. He was directly next to the Thunderpath that separated ShadowClan’s territory from WindClan’s. If only he could time this just right…

The apprentice pounced out from his hiding place behind a clump of snow and raced after the mouse. However, he ended up slipping over the muddy slush, which alerted his prey. With a fearful squeal, the mouse darted towards the Thunderpath.

”No!” Scorchpaw gasped. He bolted over the Thunderpath after the little rodent, and just before it crawled into a burrow hidden in snow on the other side, he leaped and landed squarely on its shoulders, nipping the back of its head and ending its life.

”Well… Hopefully no one noticed…” Scorchpaw muttered to himself nervously. He had crossed into WindClan territory to catch the mouse, which was against the warrior code. He had already gotten into trouble with a ThunderClan she-cat for catching a squirrel on the other side of the Thunderpath, and he had no intention of battling a fully-grown WindClan cat after beginning to recover from his previous wounds. He quickly turned tail and headed back to the Thunderpath.

”Don’t count on it,” a growl sounded from behind Scorchpaw. The apprentice turned quickly to find Fernpaw stalking towards him, her dark green eyes narrowed angrily at him.

Typically, the WindClan apprentice was happy and energetic and full of life, hardly ever behaving in a dignified manner, and she knew the ShadowClan apprentice was thinking the same thing by the relieved look in his eyes when he saw her. However, what this foolish tom was about to find out the hard way -- and what hardly anyone knew about her at all -- was that she did not take trespassing and hunting on WindClan territory lightly. She was as loyal to her Clan as Ashstar herself, and she would do anything to defend its territory and honor.

”You trespassed on WindClan territory and caught a mouse here,” Fernpaw growled lowly, her thick gray fur fluffing up in aggression. ”Give me the mouse and I just may let you go back to your Clan without any major scratches.”

Scorchpaw sighed in exasperation. Just his luck that he would be caught after all. However, he couldn’t give up his prey to this apprentice. He caught it, albeit on enemy territory, and his Clanmates needed to eat. ”Look, can’t we just negotiate? My Clan really needs this mouse.”

”And my Clan needs it as well.” Fernpaw was in no mood to listen to what this pathetic ShadowClan cat had to say. ”Give me the mouse now!”

With a yowl of fury, Fernpaw bolted at Scorchpaw with such speed the young tom had never witnessed before, and she slammed her head into his side, knocking him away and sending the mouse flying out of his paws.

Scorchpaw yowled in surprise at the sudden attack, which turned into a pained grunt as he was tackled to the ground, the air being knocked out of him upon ground impact. The mouse was missing, but he didn’t care about that. The first attack triggered his fighter’s instincts, and he stood back up before launching himself at Fernpaw with a battle cry. He slammed his own head into Fernpaw’s shoulder, knocking her to the ground.

Fernpaw yelped as she was knocked down, but she quickly righted herself back onto her paws. Quickly and skillfully maneuvering herself behind Scorchpaw, she gripped his fluffy tail tightly between her teeth and yanked as hard as she could, unbalancing him onto his side.

Fernpaw squealed and writhed underneath Scorchpaw’s weight. Fury coursing through her veins, she finally managed to shake him off. Then, with a final yowl of rage, she slashed her claws across the ShadowClan apprentice’s cheek, knocking him to the ground.

Scorchpaw collapsed on his side in the snow, blood from his wounds staining the white snow red and melting it from the warmth of his bodily fluids. He panted heavily and raspily, looking up weakly at Fernpaw, who just snarled down at him.

Surrendering the mouse, the apprentice struggled to his paws and limped back over the Thunderpath into ShadowClan territory without a word.

Fernpaw snorted in satisfaction with a firm nod as she watched the ShadowClan tom flee. Turning back around to the flung mouse, she picked it up in her teeth and began making her back to WindClan’s camp, trying to ignore the stinging in her back.
