Tansypaw's Assessment

Cedarstorm flicked her tail impatiently while she waited for her apprentice at the entrance. Even if she was happy because Tansypaw was getting closer to become a warrior, she was a still pissed off because of her failed hunting patrol. Even Owlpaw did it better than her (even if he didn't catch more prey) and that meant that she wasn't learning properly. The warrior hoped that she had trained even harder after that mess so that wouldn't happen again during her assessment. "Tansypaw! Let's go already!" She mewed loudly to the camp, making sure that everyone would listen to her.

Tansypaw bounded up to Cedarstorm. "I'm ready!" she mewed. She would have to be perfect today, after the disappointing hunting patrol with Owlpaw. She was confident in her abilities, and hunting had always come easily to her, but for some reason she had kept on missing her prey. Even after practicing her stance and leap, she was nervous that she would mess up. On top of everything, her mentor didn't look very happy, and that meant she would be scrutinizing Tansypaw's performance more than ever.

"Eat this shrew quickly. You will need energy for today." She mewed pushing the rodent to the she-cat with a kinder smile.

Cedarstorm waited for her to finish and then she stood up, heading out from the camp. "Ran behind me! You must finish this before Moonhigh, all right?" The warrior trotted feeling the fresh air on her fur. It was... relaxing. She could felt her anger disappear as she enjoyed the night landscapes surrounding her. It always reminded her walking with Crowfur, the love of her life.

The warrior finally stopped in front of a large puddle surrounded by some bushes and dead trees. Her gaze turned back to the young she-cat and she started speaking in a serious voice. "Your assessment starts now. You will have to hunt three pieces of prey and one bird before moonhigh. This will test your hunting skills and your speed. I will be watching you and you must return all your prey to this place. Good luck!" Cedarstorm climbed one of the trees and then she laid down on a branch, so she would have a good view of the territory and her apprentice.

Tansypaw nodded at her mentor's instruction. She had managed to calm herself down on the way here, so now she was mentally prepared. Cedarstorm climbed a tree, concealing her from Tansypaw's view, so she trotted a short distance away and began to scan the forest for prey. She quickly spotted a mouse scuffling in the dirt, so she crouched quickly and pounced on it. She landed with her paws on her prey, and killed it with a swift bite to the neck. She scooped it up in her jaws and bounded back to the place where Cedarstorm had told her to leave her prey. She half-buried it in the loose earth and hurried off to find her next quarry.

IC: Good She thought smirking from her branch when she saw that Tansypaw caught her first prey without much trouble. The young she-cat seemed to learn her lesson and now she was getting better.

Tansypaw had spotted a lizard soon after dropping her mouse near the puddle. She was watching it quietly, trying to decide her most strategic move. Normally, she wouldn't bother with a lizard, but this one was huge, and considering it was leaf-bare and she was in the middle of her hunting assessment, she couldn't afford to pass it up. The lizard moved sightly, making it an easier target for her, so before it had a chance to move again, she leaped on it, catching it easily. She bounded through the trees and dropped it beside her mouse, scuffling dirt over it quickly before she returned to her hunt.

Cedarstorm contained a delighted purr because of her apprentice's great work. Finally, she was getting it right... Tansypaw was becoming a good and well-skilled warrior. Her technique was perfect.

Tansypaw finally spotted a bird, near enough that she could catch it. I might as well go for it now, she thought. Birds weren't easy to catch, especially in ShadowClan territory, so it was going to be a challenge. She stalked silently closer to it until she was near enough to leap on it. She remembered her experience on her failed hunting patrol with Owlpaw and Cedarstorm, and how she hadn't been close enough to the bird. She wanted to avoid making the same mistake again, so she inched closer, careful not to brush anything with her tail. Here we go, she thought, tensing her muscles. Tansypaw sprang onto the bird, killing it with her paws. She looked down in surprise. She had caught it! When she was over the initial shock of her success, she grabbed the bird to add to her growing pile of prey.

Smiling happily, the warrior flicked her tail seeing how much she had improved her hunting. After all... she was capable o hunt a bird just like she asked her to do! One more and it will be over... soon she would be a perfect warrior, just like her father, Gingerstripe and her uncle, Firestone.

Tansypaw looked around. She only needed one more piece of prey, and then she would pass her assessment! Finally, she spotted a shrew, sitting out in the open. Perfect! She had to make sure she didn't miss this one. She dropped into the hunting crouch, more careful than ever not to make a single noise. When she was close enough to her prey, she pounced. She killed the shrew with a bite to the neck and grabbed it to take back to her other prey and Cedarstorm. She couldn't believe it - she hadn't missed one piece of prey!

The warrior climbed down the tree, reaching the side of her apprentice. With a smile, she looked at her proudly with no more severe looks. After all her hard work, she deserved this moment. "Congratulations! You have passed your assessment with perfect skills. I'm glad to see how much you have improved, Tansypaw. I hope you don't forget what I taught you once you are a warrior." She mewed winking, playfully.

Cedarstorm picked up the bird and the shrew, ready to go back. "Be ready, Tansypaw. Now that you're ready, is time for you to speak with our ancestors so be prepared for your Moonstone journey. I wish to see your warrior ceremony soon."
