Wrenkit's Apprentice Ceremony

Crowstar jumped on to the Tall Branch before calling out to his clan. "Let all cats old enough to climb a tree gather here for a clan meeting!" Another apprentice, he was thankful for so many kits but he felt that leaf bare would mean less for them.

Today's the day! Today's the day!

That was what he thought all day yesterday, and the day before that, and the day before that, and the sun had rose and set and rose and set without his name changing, but he still sprang out from the nursery like a bat out of a cave with that same thought looping through his head when he heard Crowstar's call.

He was all ready. He'd groomed himself. Twice. And he'd gotten so worked up he'd mussed it all up right afterward rolling through his moss nest, but apprentices always looked dirty and nestraggled, so he figured he was just fitting in anyway. He'd practiced all his hunting techniques, and he'd thoroughly swatted down all the dandelions still left in camp, pretending they were WindClan warriors. Maybe Crowstar would just make him a warrior right then and skip the whole apprentice part? He had to notice how great he was, didn't he?

"Today we are gathered to make another kit into an apprentice." Crowstar knew that Wrenkit had been patiently waiting for the past few days. Once he turned his yellow eyes to the kit he could see the excitement in his body. "Wrenkit please come forward." The leader said.

Wrenkit padded forward, his thin stoic expression immediately washing back into kit-like excitement as he was called by the Clan leader. This really was the day. He'd called it.

He was tired of repeating these words so much but at the same time it was a good thing he was saying them a lot. "Wrenkit from this moment on, until you earn your warrior name, you will be known as Wrenpaw. Your mentor will be Russetpelt, I hope he passes all that he knows on to you." The leader said before jumping down to end the ceremony.

Wrenkit—... Kitpaw. No, mouse-dung. Pawkit—... Wrenpaw's mouth gaped, as if he couldn't be more surprised by the same old words that Crowstar had rambled off. He'd dreamed about this day since, well, longer than he could even remember. Every day. He dreamed about this ceremony almost as much as he dreamed about his warrior ceremony, and the leader ceremony after that.

He went bounding off to touch noses with his mentor, barreling forward like a monster down the Thunderpath, and the collision was anything but gentle.

Russetpelt blinked in surprise as his name was called. He only recently become a warrior. He padded over to his new apprentice and touched noses with him. "I'll teach you everything I know."
