Coyotepaw's Warrior Ceremony

Blizzardstar smiled as she hoped onto the Highrock, finally Coyotepaw was ready to become a warrior “All cats old enough to catch their own prey gather under the Highrock for a clan meeting!”.

The tabby tom padded out at Blizzardstar's call. He wondered what it was this time. Last time, they had brought in Windclan's medicine cat. You never knew what was going to happen. Sitting down near the edge of the clearing, he wrapped his tail over his paws. His amber eyes fixed lazily on the ground as he waited for this announcement to be over like the others.

Sharppaw was relaxing in camp, keeping one lazy eye on Reedpaw and an ear out for Coyotepaw. She was sure that she was the only thing keeping their lives together these days. They should count themselves lucky that Sharppaw had taken them both under her wing. Her ears perked as Blizzardstar called a clan meeting and lazily stood up, wincing in pain as her joints squealed in agony. She awkwardly shuffled forward with a grimace. What on earth was going on now? If it was another rouge joining the clan she was going to start a war.


Leafstorm flicked his tail knowingly, his bright green eyes gleaming as he watched Blizzardstar. The fluffy tom knew what was happening- he had discussed it with the leader herself a few sunrises ago.
He couldn't help puffing out his chest slightly. His first apprentice was growing up fast, and although Coyotepaw was young, he had taken a great many steps towards greatness. A part of the tabby warrior was going to miss taking him out for training, and the feeling of pride when Coyotepaw succeeded in a particularly difficult hunt or battle. A part of him wanted Coyotepaw to stay his apprentice forever, so Leafstorm would always be able to protect him. But no, he had to grow up and seek his destiny within the clans, just like he, himself had those many moons ago

Leopardclaw seated himself near the front of the crowd, glancing around and smiling at Sharppaw and Coyotepaw in turn.  He had a feeling this was a ceremony; but for who was the question?  Finally the golden spotted tom turned his attention up towards Blizzardstar, his black-tipped ears perked curiously.

Once enough cats were gathered beneath the Highrock, the white leader finally decided to go on "Coyotepaw, please, step forward”.

He barely caught it when the leader said his name. But the young tom's head snapped up at the soumd of it. Could this be his ceremony? Was Wolffang's dream finally coming true? Without a sound, he padded to the base of the rock before Blizzardstar.

Sharppaw's interest was peaked. Coyotepaw? What on earth did Blizzardstar want with him?
She craned her neck, her eyes narrowing as she stared at Blizzardstar. "What?"

Blizzardstar took a deep breath “I, Blizzardstar, leader of ThunderClan, call upon my warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentice. He has trained hard to understand the ways of your noble code, and I commend him to you as a warrior in his turn” Her gentle eyes soon landed on the the tom she had taken under her wing some moons ago“Coyotepaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code and to protect and defend your Clan, even at the cost of your life?”.

As he heard the familar words, the apprentice felt nothing. There was no sense of pride or really much of anything blossoming in his chest. This was simply what he had always been destined to do. Coyotepaw's amber eyes flickered to his mentor before returning to Blizzardstar. It was evident Leafstorm was more excited than him. His tail tip twitched with the barest hints of discomfort unter the stares of the Thunderclan cats.

"I do." He meowed finally. Part of him wondered why he still followed this path with Wolffang gone. She would never get the satisfaction of seeing her son become a warrior. It was most likely a strange sense of kit-like duty that he had managed to cling onto all these moons. The breath caught in his throat as he waited for Blizzardstar to speak. Remembering Wolffang now was not the easiest thing.

Blizzardstar smiled and nodded approvingly before she continued speaking “Then by the powers of StarClan, I give you your warrior name. Coyotepaw, from this moment you will be known as Coyotefang. StarClan honors your introspectivity and temperateness, and we welcome you as a full warrior of ThunderClan” With that, she leaped off the Highrock and rested her muzzle on the newly named warrior’s head to conclude the ceremony.

"Coyotefang! Coyotefang!" Barkfall cheered, totally having been there the whole time to celebrate his brother's ceremony.

Leafstorm thumped his paw on the ground as Coyotepaw- no, Coyotefang -was pronounced a warrior. "Congratulations!" He called, his voice lost in the crowd of cats streaming towards the young warrior. Leafstorm didn't rush towards the tom. He knew better than that. Instead he kept his distance, watching with pride as he remembered his own ceremony. It was a bittersweet moment, and if there had been more privacy Leafstorm would've cried, but for now all he could do was stand and smile before turning and trotting towards the Warrior's den, his head low and grinning.


"Coyotefang!" Sharppaw's words cut through the crowd as she ducked around and between the others. The little tabby's bright eyes shone as she bounced beside her friend, craning her neck to try and catch his eye. "Coyotefang you... you dweeb! Who said you could become a warrior before me?" She spat indignantly, knocked his shoulder. "Now how am I supposed to keep you out of trouble?"

"Thank you." The new warrior meowed deeply to the fluffy, white she-cat. His eyes closed shut for a brief second. Nothing felt different. He had been warrior aged for sometime now. But in the craziness of the last few moons, his ceremony had not happened. Leafstorm had come over to him and the emotion in the older tom's voice was palpable. Coyotefang didn't quite feel the same. However, he was grateful for the kindness of his mentor. They had their differences in opinion, namely Specklefang, yet that did not change the bit of reverence he had for Leafstorm despite the distance it created. He was just too kind for his own good at times.

As Sharppaw came to join them, his ear twitched. After seeing her defy her mother's train of thought, he had grown to appreciate having her as a denmate. If there was any cat whose presence he would potentially find himself missing to any extend, it would be her. That was a strange feeling. Coyotefang normally did not need other cats. His thoughts churned for a moment, but he finally said, "I guess you'll just have to come and join me soon." From behind the conversation, clanmates continued to cheer his name. Barkfall was among them. After so long, it felt like a huge relief to have the pressure of this goal to be over. No more would he live on the path his mother had set. He was free. But, Wolffang was never gone. And she will never leave you, Coyotefang.
