Maplepaw's Assessment

The last thing the Skyclan deputy wanted to do right now was an assessment. So many things hung over his head right now as the clan prepared for the coming leafbare. But, as a part of the preparation, they needed more warriors. After Addergaze's death, Rippedsky had been left fairly drained. A sigh left his maw as he padded into the apprentice's den. Careful not to wake any others, he meowed softly and shook Maplepaw, "It's time for your assessment."

The white and tortie she cat had been resting peacefully that was until the deputy shook her awake and her amber eyes snapped open looking up at him she sat up and gave a long stretch"alright I'm ready"She mewed.

"Let's go then." Immediately, he turned to head for the forest. They were welcomed by what promised to seem a rather nice day for an assessment. This would be one of the last few times that there would still be prey scurrying among the tree roots and scaling the branches. The black and white deputy stopped and turned to Maplepaw, "You have until sunset to catch me three pieces of prey. Whatever you would like is fine. Be sure to show me your climbing skills, I will be watching you. You may begin, and good luck, Maplepaw." With a curt nod, Rippedsky turned and disappeared into the trees.

Maplepaw had followed in relative silence but she gave a nod at Rippedsky's words. She then went off the first thing the apprentice sniffed out was a squirrel. Crouching down she followed the scent spotting the creature nibbling on something at the base of the tree she crept up on it before she pounced. She pinned it easily and killed it cleanly before she continued on with her next kill. She would try for a bird next since they mostly resided in the trees she could use it to show her climbing skills.

Maplepaw hid the squirrel before she eventually caught the scent of a bird. She spotted it not too far up in the trees she she started to climb up the tree quickly and quietly. As she got on the branch to made sure it didn't wobble. She then caught the bird easily the branch swayed threatening but Maplepaw didn't fall. She had killed the bird and climbed back down hiding it with the squirrel before looking for her next peice of prey.

Soon she caught the scent of a mouse and followed it spotting the brown furred creature. She crouch and pounced hoping she would catch the peice of prey. Though she missed the peice of prey by and inch and it went scattering. Blinking she whisked her white tail back and forth before calming herself and sniffed around.

She soon caught the scent of another squirrel and went after the scent spotting the squirrel she leapt and pounced. She caught it and smiled killing it cleanly the apprentice went and gather her other squirrel and bird she caught.

Rippedsky watched from the trees with interest. The she-cat's hunting ability was certainly something. Her climbing ability was exactly what it should be. His eyes widened as the branch she caught the bird on swayed. Thankfuly, Maplepaw steadied herself and was able to keep balance. She missed once, but was quickly able to make up for the lost catch. A soft smile came onto his maw. Despite everything going on another apprentice was ready to become a warrior. While she gathered the prey, he leaped down from his hiding spot and meowed, "Great job, Maplepaw. I will speak to Crowstar about getting you a warrior ceremony soon..." His voice trailed off. The deputy padded over to help carry the squirrel back to camp.

Maplepaw blinked then beamed her white tail flicked happily. She gave a nod as she held her three peices of prey and went with him back to camp.
