Emberpaw's training (Closed)

Specklefang woke from a deep slumber, her nose tickled by Leafstorm's neck fur as she was coiled around him. Peaking her green eyes open she looked to the soft dawn light with a begrudging groan, with another apprentice to train she was waking earlier than ever once more. Taking a deep breath she relished in the morning air, the coolness was something she was starting to relish. Exhaling through her maw she got to her paws and stretched her toes spreading and her back arching and bending, her limbs shuddering with the effort and Specklefang shook out her sleep-flattened fur. Pushing herself out of the den, her fur raking against the brambles as she took a moment to eye the fresh-kill pile before shaking her head and padding towards the apprentice's den.

Dipping her head in she stifled a yawn and eyed down Coyotepaw and her kits with a soft smile. Taking a moment she licked and nuzzled each one of her kits before turning to the smallest and newest of the bunch, Emberpaw. Baring her teeth she pushed the red apprentice with her paws repeatedly. "Get up, kittypet, it's time for your training and we mustn't waste the day away whilst you snore." Specklefang spat, swiftly leaving the apprentice's den with more of a struggle than the much bigger warrior's den. The large she-cat struggled to stifle another yawn, but somehow she managed. Padding out of the camp, her shoulder aching with a ferocity as she continued to exercise it. It was best to make sure she moved it though not too harshly or vigorously lest she opens it again.

Ru- no, Emberpaw, she corrected herself - yawned, stretching slightly. Her... Mentor, that's what it was called, wasn't it? Wanted her to be awake. The former kittypet was somewhat annoyed at being poked, but supposed it came with the territory. Okay, she was awake now, anyway. She left the apprentice's den, silently following what was her name--- Speckletooth? No, that didn't sound quite right... She followed her mentor, name unremembered, waiting for instruction. She had chosen this path, and she knew it wouldn't be easy, so she couldn't complain, right?

"I've seen the fences that you jump with ease, seeing as you're a kittypet. So let's work with that. I want you to climb that tree with the low branches, be careful on the way up and use your claws. Look for footholds, I don't expect you to get it right away or be a Skyclan cat. Just show me what you're capable of." Specklefang ordered swiftly, her head tilting towards the said tree.

SkyClan cats? There were other Clans? Maybe she could ask someone about that later, but for now she needed to focus. Emberpaw nodded to Specklefang - that was it, she remembered - and looked to the tree. "Okay..." she murmured, trying to judge the size of it compared to a fence. She made her way to it, and scrambled up to one of the lowest branches before losing her footing and sliding back down. She looked back up, trying to see where she had gone wrong - maybe she wasn't careful enough? Look for footholds, right? That was what her mentor had said? She shouldn't rush herself, then. She tried again, making it to the same branch more slowly, this time without losing her footing, and tried to stand on the branch in her satisfaction. She supposed that was her second mistake - the first being the first attempt - as while the branch could support her weight, she couldn't keep her balance for more than a few moments and had to jump back down. She had to resist the temptation to try it a third time, and waited for further instruction.
