Don't Look Up [Closed]

Nectarleap had just pierced the neck of the rabbit, killing it, when he heard a terrified screech. Looking back, he realized that Spiderfur wasn't with the other cats. He sprinted at full speed towards the other cats, trying to see what was causing the warrior to emit that sound. His eyes widened in fear and shock as he saw the huge hawk, then a moment later heard Brindlewhisker's order. He was glad to see that Laurelpaw was attacking it, she was about as old and as experienced as a warrior. And all the others were doing a good job too, but he couldn't focus on them. Dropping the rabbit, he ran harder than he ever had before, surpassing the apprentices in only a short amount of time. He was fast for his age, and that combined with adrenaline let him catch up with the low flying bird. And with the deputy holding it so it was going slower, he was able to get a good stance to jump on it too. 
With a ferocious yowl, he leapt from a small hill and landed on a wing of the hawk, claws and teeth latching on with all the power he had. The feathers made it slippery, and one of his claws fell off immediately, but he was able to look over at the ground. Though the bird was flying fairly low, his fear of heights kicked in, and his claws instinctively latched on harder, like a kit clinging to their mother. His paws hurt more than he ever recalled, and in a matter of moments two more slipped off, leaving only one claw and his teeth clinging onto the wing. Suddenly, one of his claws tore of from the strain, and it took everything inside of him to not yowl and let go with the only thing he had left. He felt his lower body start falling, and his eyes grew wild and scared. His tail hit the ground, and he just imagined the rest of his body taking that fall. But he had to save Spiderfur.

Spiderfur was seeing everything in slow motion. The searing pain across her stomach and neck was almost too much to bear; she could feel her heartbeat with her entire body. She struggled to stay conscious as her Clanmates fought her captor, who screeched in pain and rage as it was attacked. It first tried to climb higher in the sky, but the cats hanging off of its wings was too much weight for it to handle. The hawk turned its head towards Brindlewhisker and Nectarleap, shrieking in their faces and jabbed at them with its sharp beak. Its strong talons fumbled to keep their hold on Spiderfur, one foot letting go of her front left leg, leaving the rest of her dangling by some loose skin on her side. The sudden drop raked the creature's claws through her flesh and three great wounds opened up from the base of her neck up to her left cheek.

Even with the pain and shock, this awkward position she was left in gave her an opening to free herself. The warrior lashed towards the hawk's pale belly with her right paw, the surprise attack causing it to finally lose altitude and crash to the ground in a tumble of feathers and fur. The bird of prey detached itself from the cats, shrieking once again with its wings outstretched, which were missing several feathers. It hopped menacingly towards them before turning around, flying away into the rising sun.

Spiderfur couldn't move from where she'd been unceremoniously dropped. The adrenaline of the moment had faded away as quickly as it had come and was only barely awake because of the long rips up her neck pulsing every now and then with a new wave of pain. She tried to open her mouth to speak, but the movement aggravated the wound even further. 'Where are they?' The gash on her head, now the least of her problems, was leaking blood into her eyes. Where was her son? Was he alright? She prayed to StarClan that the hawk hadn't decided Swiftpaw a better meal and carried him away instead.

Laurelpaw was posed to jump up at the bird once again when it began to swerve and falter, dropping Spirdefur and landing on the ground nearby.  Her lips drawn back in a vicious snarl, the young she-cat dashed forward and bent down in a defensive stance, waving her unsheathed claws threateningly at the large hawk.  To her relief, after a few moments of hesitance, the bird spread it's tattered wings and took flight; after giving it's vanishing form a haughty spit, the gray-and-white she-cat padded up to the small warrior who lay bleeding on the ground, worry apparent in her eyes as she gave her wounds a tentative sniff.  "Spiderfur, are you okay?!  Those cuts don't look so good...come on, lean on me!  We need to get you to Sageleaf."  Bending down, she flashed a reassuring smile at the older she-cat, offering her a supporting shoulder.

Swiftpaw ran as fast as he could where the hawk released his mother. "Mom are you okay?!" the young tom asked. He looked at her terrible wounds with a pained filled expression. He helped Laurelpaw stand her up. The tom began to lick Spiderfur's face, his heart pounding. Her wounds were deep and looked very painful. He wanted to cry, but that was the last thing that was needed. He nuzzeled the warrior hoping Sageleaf would heal her. "L-Let's take her back. S-Should we wait for the others?" he asked the other apprentice.

Newtslip ran closer with alarm in her eyes, amazement and fear made her uncomprehensible. She yowled: "Wait! We must wait for Brindlewhisker!" There were two apprentices and Newtslip also was not experienced enough to know what to do. "We could hurt her if we do something wrong."
