the Golden Flame's kits (open)

Goldenflame looked down at his kits suckling on their dead mother. Silent tears ran down his face and  he dug his claws into the soft dirt. As soon as the kits were done suckling his mates body was taken and he had put the kits into another nest and curled around them to keep them warm. He sighed and stared down at them. "You shall be Poppykit and you shall be Amberkit." He meowed sadly and gently groomed his kits fur.

Poppykit clambered across her father's flank, mewing softly as the scent of milk mingled with the oddor of death was slowly taken away from her. She desperatly pushed her paws into his belly, asking for more food, but after a while the long-furred kit gave up, her small mouth opening into a yawn as she curled up by her sister's side, unknowing of the sorrow of her father.

Amberkit sighed with relief as the stinky odor was taken away. It gave the rich, sweet milk she needed, but her nose twitched in disgust of the scent. She licked the rest of the sticky liquid off her muzzle as she curled up in a tight ball, beside her father's warmth. Before she drifted off to sleep, she felt her sister's heart beat steadily against her fragile back. She was soon lulled to sleep by her sisters quiet breathing, and her father's soft cries.

Goldenflame soon laid his head down and his tail across his nose and closed his eyes. He formed a protective circle around his kits as he slept.

Amberkit woke up to her father's muffled snores. She pawed her sister awake. "Poppykit! Wake up!"

"A Queen should look after them." Came the gentle words, softly disrupting the likely fitful sleep that had overtaken Goldenflame.

Brindlewhisker slipped into the thick Gorse Wall that made up the nursery, stepping lightly as she did so, eyes filled with something akin to pity as she gazed down upon her son and his kits. "They'd do better that way." She murmured softly, settling down beside Goldenflame's tightly curled form, pressing against the newly-named Warrior's form in a comforting manner. Brindlewhisker turned to examine Poppykit and Amberkit's still newborn-small forms with curious eyes- her first grandkits!

Goldenflame blinked the sleep out of his eyes in surprise. "I'm sure another queen with milk will care for them."  He meowed with glazed over eyes from sleep.

Amberkit tipped her head to their conversation. What was a queen? If it meant an addition to the family, she had no interest of it. She was happy just with her father, her sister and her. That was it.
