Teaching an Ember How to Fight (Closed for Tundrastorm)

Stoneheart padded into the apprentice den to wake Emberpaw up for her first day of training. As the large gray tom approached her sleeping form, he felt another flicker of surprise as he realized yet again that he was training Nectarleap's daughter. A pang of loneliness settled in his heart, mind going somewhere else for a moment as he thought about his best friend. He wished that he and Nectarleap hadn't fallen out, but the gap that was between them just seemed to be getting bigger the more he tried to talk to him.

However, now wasn't time to get lost in such things. Stoneheart didn't want his complicated friendship with Nectarleap to get in the way of training Emberpaw. He was determined to train her well and be a good mentor today. Gently nudging the golden apprentice's side, Stoneheart greeted her friendly. "Hi Emberpaw, time to wake up."

Emberpaw yawned as she looked up at Stoneheart. "I would love to do battle training today."She said cautiously, not wanting to offend the older warrior.

Stoneheart brightened at the idea. "Sure, we can do that!" He smiled. "I'll show you the territory on the way too, how does that sound?"

" Wonderful!" Emberpaw said with enthusiasm. She just couldn't contain her excitement, Today they were going out of camp! Even though she had been out here when her and Swiftpaw were kits the thrill of having he horizon glow with the sunlight and the wind ruffling your fur always took her breathe away.

Stoneheart smiled at the apprentice's enthusiastic response. "Okay, follow me then Emberpaw." He headed towards the entrance of camp, and led them out into the expansive moors of Windclan territory. The newly-made warrior paused to taste the air, taking in the scents of rabbit and grass. He loved their clan's lands so much.

"What do you think?" Stoneheart asked, turning to look at Emberpaw. He was excited for the young apprentice. The warrior assumed it was one of her first times out of camp, totally oblivious to her endeavors with Swiftpaw outside camp during their kit days.

"It's always so beautiful! But also cold at night. I just love the rolling hills and all the heather." She said with a dreamy look in her eyes. She tried to jump up to get a better look, but ended up falling on her rump.

Stoneheart, the giant serious-looking tom, fell into giggles at Emberpaw's jumping fail. She was hilarious and earnest, just like her father. He didn't think too much about what she said, too amused to realize she had practically announced that she had been outside of camp enough to know what it's like during the day and night.

"Careful, try not to hurt yourself," he admonished with humor in his voice. The tom waited patiently for her to get up, standing by her side to show he wasn't going anywhere. "Don't worry, there's plenty of heather nearby. Plus, Windclan territory is full of hills." He gave her a reassuring smile. "We'll definitively run into some today, I promise."

"Yay!" She was elated. She couldn't wait to see a part windclan that she hasn't seen, the training grounds.

Stoneheart smiled at Emberpaw's excited reaction. "Okay, let's go then," He meowed, starting to pad in the direction he had pointed towards. The new warrior stepped through the grasses, avoiding the occasional bush or two that came underway. When they passed a lavender bush, Stoneheart's heart clenched, reminded bitter-sweetly of his times with Nectarleap when they were apprentices. He smelled rabbit, but ignored the urge to hunt it so that they had time to do some battle training and visit a certain place as a surprise.

By the time they reached the clearing the sun had well cleared the gentle hills, the greenleaf sun relentlessly beating down on their backs. Stoneheart turned around to face Emberpaw, tail twitching with anticipation. "We're here," he stated with a smile, "Ready to start?"
