Nectarpaw's Assessment

Silentstrike was excited to finally be giving his little brother his assessment, that way he could finally tell Ashstar and Brindlewhisker how good he was doing with his training, and that he thought it was definitely time for his ceremony. He didn't need an assessment to know how good he was doing, what with their totally frequent training, but it was formal and he knew he'd be excited. Walking over to the apprentices' sleeping area, he made sure not to step on any sleeping apprentices and he made his way over to Nectarpaw."Wake up, little brother." He meowed, once again stepping over all of her fellow apprentices as he made his way to the entrance of camp. The sun was jus barely starting to rise, and the sight was breathtaking.

OOC: Nectarpaw is a tom, Silenystrike's other apprentice is a she-cat. Nectarpaw is his brother though.

IC: Nectarpaw opened his eyes sleepily, awakening to his mentor calling for him. He winced, hoping he hadn't slept in and was late for training. One look at the other sleeping apprentices told him otherwise. He curiously padded after his mentor and older brother, wondering what they could be doing that early in the morning. "Good morning! Are we doing some early training today?" Nectarpaw asked enthusiasticly. Even though training was fun sometimes, Nectarpaw was starting to wonder when it would end and he would become a warrior. After taking a moment to pause and admire the sunrise, Nectarpaw quickly glanced over the expansive moods of WindClan territory. He had caught prey and went on adventures there many times, and he was left wondering what he would do this early morning.

Silentstrike smiled at his younger brother, his enthusiasm that seemed to never cease amusing him. "Actually, Nectarpaw, today you will take your assessment." He smiled, looking down on the apprentice that was just about up to his chest. They shared the same blood, the same family, but Nectarpaw was a part of the litter where their mom and dad had... Drama. In some waya they were the same, and in even more they were different, but that didn't change the way they loved each other. No matter what, they had to stick together. "I want you to catch me 3 pieces of prey by the time the sun sets. Good luck, now go go go!" He meowed, a wide smile on his face. After Willowwhisker had been taken by the twolegs, Silentstrike put the responsibility of her newest kits on his shoulders, and boy were they growing up fast.

"What? Assessment? Wow! Really, already?" Nectarpaw found himself saying a lot of things at the same time, but took a deep breath and tried again. "I mean, thank you! I'll do the best that I can!" Though Nectarpaw thought it was a little weird how proud his mentor and older brother was of him, it made him feel confident and well, like he had a family. Which they were, so that was probably a good thing that he felt that way. Nectarpaw trotted out into the moor, scenting the air. It didn't take long for him to scent a hare, nibbling on the heather. He was downwind of it and close enough to chase it, so hopefully it would be an easy catch. He crouched and padded slightly closer to the hare, steps hardly carrying any weight or sound. When he was close enough, he leaped for it and sprinted after it. The rabbit had heard his pawsteps before he could catch it, but that wouldn't stop Nectarpaw. He lunged for its neck once he was close enough, and ended its life with one swift bite.

Nectarpaw proudly held up his catch as if presenting it to the clan, then quickly buried it among some heather. That was one down, still two to go. Once again he scented the air, and was able to catch the smell of a rabbit. He followed the scent to a rabbit chewing on a flower of some sort, and placed himself downwind of his next catch. He tentatively walked towards it, focusing on each pawstep to make sure that they weren't too loud or carrying too much of his weight. Once he felt that it was the right time, he pounced for it, giving chase. He had to chase the rabbit (which had not stopped carrying its flower while running) a little ways, but before long he was practically on top of it. He blocked its path with his paw, and then bit its neck before it even had a chance to switch its direction.

Picking up his second catch of the day, Nectarpaw headed back to where he had buried the hare he had caught and buried this one there as well. Now he only had to catch one more piece of prey. He scented the air, and soon had detected the scent of another hare. He followed this one a short distance, the caught sight of it. This one was noticeably bigger than the other two he had caught, and would make quite the impressive catch. Nectarpaw checked to make sure he was downwind, then padded up to the hare, once again putting care into each of his pawsteps. With a determined smile set on his face, Nectarpaw lunged for the hare. It turned out being big didn't mean hard to catch, because this one was slower than the last one he had chased. In only a few seconds, he was able to catch up to his next catch. He ducked down and sunk his teeth into the back of its neck, killing it instantly.

Nectarpaw looked proudly at his catch as he walked to retrieve his other two. He had caught everything that he had needed to catch, and one of them was fairly large for its species. Digging up the other two, the calico marked tom began making his way back to Silentstrike to show him what he had caught. It was a little challenging to carry three pieces of fresh-kill at once, but Nectarpaw managed to carry them back to the entrance of camp, where Silentstrike would be waiting. "Silentstrike! I caught all the prey that you wanted me to catch!" Nectarpaw called, pride clear in his voice and on his face.

As Silentstrike followed Nectarpaw through the territory, he watched him catch and catch and catch more and more prey as time passed on. As Nectarpaw made his way bak to camp, Silentstrike followed quietly behind him, and when he called his name he let out a little chuckle, revealing his place behind the young apprentice. "Nice job, Nectarpaw. You've definitely proved that you're more than ready to become a warrior. I will be talking to Ashstar and Brindlewhisker abouot your progress as soon as I can" He told the smaller apprentice. "Now go drop your prey off at the freshkill pile, then take a little rest. We're going on another patrol this evening." His stern but loving tone echoed through camp, and with a bright smile on his face, he padded towards Ashstar's den to talk about his warrior ceremony.
