Fate to Despair [Closed]

Mottleheart movement was lithe, his pawsteps not making a sound on the moor's grass as he pulled himself closer and closer to this quarry - a lone rabbit. Things were slowly starting to return to normal despite all that had happened the last moon. He still found himself unsure of his feelings on it all, often distracting himself with hunting. It was better to not think on his feelings and be useful to his Clan then dwell on them and be consumed by it all. Emotions were a tricky subject, and Mottleheart found himself finding the idea of simply ignoring them all to tempting then to worry about the mess that they were. This thoughts came to an end as he stumbled to a stop, his brown eyes meeting the panicked black eyes of the rabbit he had been hunting. So distracted by his own thoughts he had forgotten about the rabbit and accidentally given it time to notice him. They stood locked for a few moments before the rabbit darted. Mottleheart didn't waste a moment, pushing off after the rabbit as he mumbled a soft curse under his breath. His paws pounded on the moor as he gained on the rabbit rather quickly - his skill being in speed even for a WindClan cat. The rabbit was almost to its hole when his paws stuck it, sending it crashing to the ground as he pounced on top of it and ended it with a quick bite. He stayed crouch for a few seconds, closing his eyes as he uttered a small prayer for the life of this rabbit before he stood up, letting it hang from his grasp as he turned and started to head back to where he planned to hide his prey until it was time to return to the camp.

Rockthorn was antsy, constantly pacing as he strayed further and further from the barn. He had to stay away for a few days, if he could make sure that it was safe once more he'd be ready to return. It was a risk he had to take when it came to mauling Storm, all he could do was lie in wait and watch. But his patience was rewarded when he saw his dear friend, Mottleheart. Joy filled Rockthorn's chest as he rose from his temporary nest in the long grass where he wasn't able to be seen.

"Mottleheart!" He called, pride making his face scrunch in joy as he saw the catch that the white and brown tom carried. "Nice catch! Do you want to have a meal together? I can probably catch something.." The tom trailed, turning to the burnt forest in contemplation of his chances. His paws shifted, maybe he'd be able to go back to the barn just for a brief moment to catch a plump mouse.

Mottleheart came to a stop when a voice broke the silence of the moor, his blood turning cold as his fur prickled. No...His eyes narrowed to slits as he turned his gaze to the source of the voice, fighting by anger that rose at the sight of Rockthorn. Any love he once felt for the tom had disappeared in the wake of what the exiled warrior had done to Shadepaw. Without a word, he dropped the rabbit at his paws, letting his gaze sweep over the scarred tom with the barest hints of sadness in his gaze. What had happened? What had happened to the bright yet foolish apprentice he had met that one day in Fourtrees? He didn't say anything as he flickered an ear in annoyance at Rockthorn's offer to have a meal together. Did Rockthorn not think that Mottleheart knew of his actions? The brown and white warrior simply narrowed his eyes as she sorted through is emotions, attempting to figure out what to say, what to do. All he knew was that the tom before him wasn't his friend. He could never be again after what he had done.

Rockthorn padded closer, a questioning expression now on his face as he tilted his head. "Unless you just wanted to share that rabbit? It's certainly big and plump." He complimented, trying to shower Mottleheart with love and affection. Though it took a moment Rockthorn's mind clicked and his face scrunched in a 'You can't be serious?' kind of expression. "You're not angry at me are you? I've just been standing up for myself since no one else seems to be. You can forgive me for that can't you?" He asked, tilting his head as his paws shuffled some more.

What did Mottleheart want from him? He had no one to defend him, they just told him to help himself. What he did he did with reason, he tried to murder Leopardclaw and Hawkpaw because they were thought they could get away with it. He did the same to Cherrykit because Leopardclaw was her father, he mauled Shadepaw because they were important to seeing if he had the guts to really go as far as he did to defend himself.

He killed Cloudstorm because she would have broke and revealed his position eventually, he beat Storm so he wouldn't reveal the fact the barn was his hide out. He lit the forest to try to remove any and all threats there could have been to his being! Did Mottleheart not see that? Sure everything he did brought a rush to him and he felt high on catnip everytime it happened but he never did it completely needlessly! "You should be glad! I'm not the weak, frail, unkempt apprentice I was when I killed a mother rogue or when I got attacked by Bear." Rockthorn huffed, his ears flicking back against his head as he frowned.

Mottleheart eyes narrowed even more at the idea that Rockthorn thought that he would forgive him. He wanted to say something, to snap but held his tongue as he simply met the rogue's gaze unwavering. Perhaps he would have kept saying nothing if it wasn't for the final words that Rockthorn spat. His jaw fell open, taking in a sharp intake of breath as he suddenly took a step forward and put himself nose to nose with the warrior before him.

"Be glad? How am I suppose to be glad when you are a monster Rockthorn?" he roared, anger flaring up inside of him. It was a side of Mottleheart that he had never released before - one that he didn't know he had but he didn't feel like trying to damper the flaming rage that burned inside of him as he found himself continuing to speak. "Did you forget what it means to be a warrior? Honorable warriors stand for what is right - they don't kill to prove themselves or to stand up for themselves. You are right, you are not that apprentice I once knew. You aren't a warrior, Rockthorn and you never will be. Loyalty is what makes us different from rogues like you. You betrayed that when you attacked my Clanmate and left Shadepaw for dead, when you attacked your own Clanmates and fled from what you deserve. Loyalty is everything. Protecting one's Clan is everything. Even. Over. Friendships."

As he spat those final three words, he dropped into a crouch without a flicker of emotions. Mottleheart had always been against fighting - shedding another cats blood seemed barbaric and unneeded. But as he had said...Rockthorn wasn't a cat - he was a monster. The WindClan warrior yowled as he pushed off of the ground, throwing himself straight at the rogue he couldn't believe he had once saw as a friend. Rockthorn was a threat to not just WindClan but every Clan. Mottleheart couldn't let him escape.

Mottleheart used Run-and-Tackle on Rockthorn, dealing 10 damage and costing 10 stamina.

"It was the only way Mottleheart! I would be dead now if I didn't do what I did! Who's blood would you rather have had on your paws?" He hissed, flinching back as Mottleheart collided with him. Spitting Rockthorn got his answer, the word ringing in his head as Rockthorn collided with the ground. Claws unsheathing Rockthorn turned his head and locked his jaws around Mottleheart's leg, paws pulling back as powerful muscles worked to rip at Mottleheart's fur and flesh.

The tables sure had turned, he was fighting in self-defense, the soft tom that would have never hurt a fly now trying to rake into his flesh.

Mottleheart raised a paw, ready to bring it down on Rockthorn's head when the tom twisted beneath him and he felt the sharp pain of teeth sinking into his leg. His breath was stolen as he let out a gut-wrenching yowl as Rockthorn yanked hard causing his leg to give out beneath him. Mottleheart collapsed to the ground, snarling at the tom between the pain. "Your death would have spared so many other cats Rockthorn!" he yowled, his voice breaking slightly as if he couldn't believe the words that had just left his mouth. But he swallowed the horrid feeling as he kicked out with his free leg, trying to get Rockthorn to release the grip he had him. "Brindlewhisker and I should have let you die that day in Fourtrees!"

It was a hard truth that both WindClan cats had accepted - if Rockthorn had died that, so many cats would have been spared from this all. Mottleheart wanted to make up for that wrong...Even if it meant killing Rockthorn right here and now.

Mottleheart is stunned.

With Rockthorn's mouth full of leg, he wasn't able to really respond without releasing him. Getting to his paws he moved just right to put Mottleheart below him, putting as much strength into his bite as he could he bit as hard as he could into the Windclan tom's leg. He pulled and he thrashed, claws ripping into the leg along with his head before releasing the leg and stepping away; blood thick on his lips as he licked it away.


Rockthorn's stun finished, dealing 8 more damage.

Mottleheart thrashed as Rockthorn's teeth sank deeper into his leg followed by the sharp prick of claws. He yowled as he lashed out again with his free leg only this time to be rewarded when the gray rogue finally released his grip and retreated. Mottleheart pushed out with his paws, sliding away and giving him room to stumble to his paws. For a second he thought about saying something, his mouth even opening to do so but quickly closed it as a wave of agony washed over him. Just putting weight on his leg was painful and he didn't dare look down to see what damage had been done to it. No, he had to focus on this fight. He darted toward Rockthorn, attempting to use his momentum to help strength his attack as he swung his paw toward Rockthorn's muzzle but his injured leg caused him to stumble midway though his swing. His claws still raked painfully across the rogue's muzzle but it didn't have the strength Mottleheart had been aiming for.

Mottleheart used Front Paw Blow on Rockthorn, dealing 9 damage and costing 5 stamina.

Oh, but he wasn't done. Far from it! Rockthorn leaped and dug his claws into Mottleheart's shoulders to hold them both in place as he adjusted himself so he could tear his claws into the Windclan tom's soft belly. Fur flew and blood was drawn as he glared down at Mottleheart with a snarl. "Then you are no friend of mine! There is no cat here to save you Mottleheart! Not me and not Brindlewhisker!" he roared.

Mottleheart was attempting to regain his footing, his back leg screaming in agony in even the slightest movement when he felt claws dig into his shoulders as he was shoved to the ground. He stared up at Rockthorn with angry, fear...And sadness. He opened his mouth, about to say something when claws met his stomach and even more blood was spilled. He gagged, painful memories of the fight with the eagle flashing into his memory but was pulled from then as the raging tom above him spoke. Mottleheart swallowed back the pain, lashing out with his back paw in an effort to drive Rockthorn off of him. "You have never been my friend! Because you aren't the same Rockpaw I knew!" he yowled, his eyes narrowing as he lashed out with his front paws. "I will happily die if it means that WindClan is safe from a monster like you."

Mottleheart used Front Paw Blow again on Rockthorn, dealing 9 damage and costing 5 stamina.

Rockthorn flinched away, blood welling on his nose and across his brow. Spitting the tom grasped the Windclan cats scruff, jaws clenching around the flesh as he claws flailed at the other toms face and shoulder. Power vibrating from his very being as he tore with as much savagery as a cat so mentally gone as he could muster.
