It's More Than a Drift Now [CLOSED FOR THOSE CLOSE TO DRIFT AND THE MEDICINE CATS]

Driftcloud lay in the nursery, after the gathering she had been informed that she was expecting kits. Driftcloud, of course was over joined, but a cloud of worry almost always seemed to follow the dusty she-cat around. What if something went wrong? What is she was a horrible mother? Driftcloud had never been this terrified and excited in her life.

Driftcloud let out a sigh, she was content, and lying like this was just so comfortable. Her breathing slowed and her eyes closed, she was finally relaxed. That was until, a wave of pain rippled through her body. Driftcloud instantly knew what was happening. The kit were coming.

"D-d-dreamleaf, S-s-sparkflower! The k-kits... They're c-c-coming!" she yowled in pain. Driftcloud stretched out a paw and grabbed the nearest branch, sinking her teeth into it. She hoped it would be quick, the pain was unbearable.

Driftcloud panted heavily as she gazed at the four bundles that lay at her paws. They were so small and beautiful and pride flooded through Driftcloud. The dusty she-cat quickly begun to clean her kits, but as she did she noticed something was wrong with the smallest one.

The smallest kit was incredibly frail and it didn't seem to be moving. It just lay there unmoving, something was beey wrong. Driftcloud gently nudged it, but nothing happened and she realised the small kit was gone. Her amber eyes filled with tears and she brought the kit closer to her.

The queen looked down at her three living kits and she smiled once again. She would stay happy for them. Her tear filled amber eyes scanned over the little bundles, she had to name them now.

The eldest was a small wispy grey tabby she-cat, it reminded Driftcloud of dew." Dewkit, she purred. Her eyes then landed on the second kit, whom who's pelt was soft and downy, just like that of an owl.Owlkit, The last living kit was a grey tomcat with patches of cream, the way his pelt blended reminded the queen of smoke."And Smokekit" purred Driftcloud. The queen's gaze then dropped to the lifeless bundle at her paws, it's pelt was a beautiful grey white and only one name seemed to fit. "Galekit." she mewed softly.

The queen stretched her paw out and gathered her other kits, letting them say goodbye to their dead sibling. Driftcloud smiled down at her kits. She loved them with all her heart and her joy was undescribable.

Smokekit let out a strong and powerful squeak. He only felt two other small cats. Where was or what happened to the other one? Smokekit might never know. He let the scents of the nursery become more familiar in his mind. He smelled his two siblings, the ones who were with him, a she-cat scent that was pretty strong, of that his mothers. Also, another kit, who he could not feel or hear, smelled as if they did but didn't exist.

dewkit gazed up at driftcloud then back down to her life less sibling, She just sat there staring for a bit, purring in her mind "Have a good rest....". She turned around and looked at her sibling in disbelief. Trying to hold back her tears.  


DewKit-Paw-Willow

Owlkit squirmed when she was taken from her mother's milk but stopped soon when she felt something lifeless around her. Was this her sibling? It must be. Briefly nudging herself towards it she tried climbing over her dead sibling trying to get it to wake up. Why is it still and dead? Her belly hurt her from hunger nudging her way back towards mothers belly she pushed past her siblings to get milk.

Driftcloud purred softly and closed her weary eyes. All she wanted to do now was sleep. Her amber eyes blinked tiredly and she dropped her head onto her paws. The dusty she-cat protectively curled her tail around her kits. She wouldn't let the world take any more kits from her, not if she could help it. Driftcloud' eyelids drooped and she was soon overcome by sleep.
