Love of a mother

Cloverleaf had slept soundly last night, having giving birth to her kits.

Although she enjoyed the pampered life of a queen she had missed going out on patrols, catching food for her clan but she knew that looking after the next generation of the future warriors was just as important. Cloverleaf couldn't wait for her young one's to grow up she knew that they would make fine warrior's of the clan and would make her very proud. The she-cat lifted her head as she woke up and glanced down at her sleeping kits, she was surprised how quiet they could be when they slept. She nudged one of them carefully "You planning to sleep the entire moon away?" She asked with a chuckle.

The small red bundle of fur was trembling softly in a deep slumber. His small whiskers twitched in surprise as a cold nose pressed against his rump. Small eyes fluttered open, and his jaws opened wide in a high-pitched mewl of protest. Gorsekit blinked a few times at his mother before deciding... yes, he was going to sleep the moon away. He tucked into her white fur. "Not yet," he  cried. His sibling wasn't even up yet. He would have no one to play with!

Cloverleaf was expecting that Gorsekit would be thrilled to play but sadly he wanted to sleep more. The she-cat wasn't going to take no for a answer Gorsekit had to get some activity in and besides Cloverleaf was pretty hungry she wanted to grab something to eat. You don't want to go see the rest of camp?" Cloverleaf asked trying to plead with him before moving a little to get him off her. "Come on..." She mewed gently encouraging him. "You'll have lot's of fun." She mewed with a purr

His ears twitched at the sound of exploring camp. He stared up at the warrior with hopeful eyes. "Really? I can go out in camp?" He'd only seen a bit past the nursery, but not much else. His legs were growing stronger- much more than a few days ago. Gorgekit hardly ever tripped over his own feet anymore. Maybe he was finally big enough to venture farther into camp! Excitedly, the kitten butted Cloverleaf's leg, trying to push her toward the entrance. "Let's go!" All signs of exhaustion was washed away from this kitten's demeanor.

Emberkit was awoken slowly by the commotion of Gorsekit, who he had been peacefully sleeping alongside, getting up and trying to push Cloverleaf from the nursery; as always, Emberkit's eyes opened to darkness, but he was not yet old enough to understand that this was abnormal, having spent the first few days of his life so far in the company of Gorsekit and Cloverleaf. It had simply never come up. "Wait, I want to go too!" He exclaimed, jumping clumsily to his paws, his ears straining to pinpoint the source of the shuffling.

Gorsekit's paws were itching to explore. His ears careened toward the sound of a small, familiar voice. He spun around to face Emberkit, his swishing like a feather in the wind. "Emberkit!" he exclaimed, exhilarated to see that his brother was awake. In his excitement, he rushed toward him. He was stopped abruptly by his own paws giving out from under him. Gorsekit ignored it. Instead, the red tabby sat up once more and started to squeak in anticipation, hoping that Cloverleaf would accompany them a bit faster.

Gorsekit headed back toward the nursery entrance, tail raised high. "Hurry up, slowpoke!" he teased, quickening his pace as he began to race toward the camp clearing.

Emberkit seemed a bit startled by Gorsekit's quick approach, but purred happily, nonetheless--he wondered what it would be like in the camp. From the warm darkness of the nursery, he could hear a near-constant hum of activity, as the cats outside intermingled and went about daily routines. He wanted to explore camp, maybe visit the apprentice den, where he would live when he began training. Maybe he could even meet Crowstar! He was excited, but a confused expression overcame his excitement as Gorsekit started walking away. How did he know how to leave the nursery? Emberkit shrugged, however, and followed at a slower pace, following the sound of Gorsekit's pawsteps, trusting that his brother knew where they were going.

Cloverleaf was surprised on how quick Gorsekit changed his mind, she found it amusing one moment he wanted to sleep the day away and the next he wanted to explore the camp. The she-cat let out a small huff and chuckled she guessed that all kits were this way. The queen barely budged when Gorsekit attempted to make her go faster by pulling on her. "Hold on Gorsekit we need to wait for Emberkit!" She mewed as she glanced towards Emberkit a worried some look on her face. Was Emberkit going to be able to train even though he was blind? The thought quickly faded away and Cloverleaf nodded "Alright lets go" She purred leading them out to the camp clearing.

Gorsekit was the first out of the nursery. A wave of sunlight poured over him, but it was cold underfoot. He'd only seen this far! He stopped to take in the overwhelming view. To one cat, it was just an ordinary SkyClan camp. To Gorsekit, it was a playground of adventure. Cat scents flooded his nose and made his fur stand on end. He backed away apprehensively. The other kits and queens were the only scents he could recognize, but these scents were strange.

"You can go first," he mumbled to Emberkit. How quickly his moods changed.

Sagekit woke up to the feeling of the warmth of his family gone, as cold air quickly replaced it. "Where did they go?" he muttered to himself and stretched in his nest.

As Emberkit stepped out into camp, fear flooded him rather suddenly--he was used to the nursery, and somewhat knew his way around. The scents were familiar, and his mother and his siblings were a constant presence by his side. He knew that wherever he walked, there would be soft moss underfoot, a firm ground beneath his paws--now, he felt afraid to move forward, as though his paws could fall on nothing but empty air. How big was the camp? How many other cats were there? If he walked too far, would he get lost?
Emberkit noticed that, judging by the tone, Gorsekit was scared, too. Determined to be the brave one between them, Emberkit took a step forward; his paw landed on solid ground. He took another step, feeling his way forward cautiously.

Gorsekit shrank even lower as a powerful-looking cat strode past them. The cat stopped, eyed the two kits, and nodded in acknowledgment before continuing. His tail quivered in excitement. He prodded his brother with a paw. "That cat was huge!" he whispered, wondering if Emberkit could detect his underlying fear-scent. He squinted his eyes at the sun as he began to creep forward. He wondered where Emberkit's newfound bravery came from. That cat was scary!

"C'mon. Let's go look around some more!" He began to stalk off toward the fresh-kill pile, ears perked.

Sagekit looked outside the nursery, and to his anger, they went out without him! "You left me inside alone!" he spat at his siblings while padding out of the nursery
