Let's go hunting! [OPEN HUNTING PATROL]

"Woah!" Laurelpaw watched, quite impressed, as her mother quickly caught the rabbit and came back to the group. Her eyes wide with excitement, the white and black-ticked she-cat almost bounced on her paws as she meowed; "I want to try!"

Pebblestorm yawned. She was still tired from her long vigil.

Quietpaw

The young pale she-cat flicked her ears forward as Quailfeather spoke and her eyes followed the she-cat rapt attention. She opened her mouth to volunteer to try next, but closed it as Gingerpaw spoke up. The look in the toms eyes as he padded forward made her all the more determined. She may be young and she may be a loud mouth, but accepting challenges was her specialty. She watched the tom as he chased the hare across the moor, zigging and zagging after it. She compared his run to Quailfeather's and noted that she had waited until she was almost on top of the rabbit before leaps. She lifted her tail and flicked her ears forward as Gingerpaw challenged her openly. "Be glad to." She mewed letting the challenging edge clip the end of her words. She lifted her head and opened her mouth like she had seen the other warriors do. She could smell the rabbit Quailfeather had caught and the fear scent of the one that Gingerpaw had chased. She could also smell, barely the fresh scent of rabbit. She guessed that it was coming from the other side of the hill. She dropped into the hunters crouch that Quailfeather had shown them. Dsoing her best to mimic it's every hair. Her tail stuck straight out behind her stiff as Quailfeathers was relaxed, but other than that she had it pretty well down.

She slipped forward reaching forward with each front paw and drawing her body weight over the ground in slow steps. She kept her ears pricked and her jaws parted as she stalked toward where she thought the rabbit lay. As she came over the rise She halted her eyes stretched wide as she took in the drop before her. To her left she could see the hole where Gingerpaws hare had escaped and to her right was a rabbit his back to her munching on mouthfuls of grass. It was small, and probably young by thwe looks of it, but who was she to judge. SheGathered her nerves and pushed off from the ground, her tail now streaming out behind her. Her pale fur sparkling in the sunlight. Paws thrumming along thr ground and through the tussoks of grass, she felt as though she was flying. This was what she was made for. Her legs stretched and bunched under her propelling her forward over the ground.

Long ears flicked back toward her and a small head turned. A dark round eye caught sight of her and with a bound the chase began. The powerful hind legs of the rabbit kicked up dirt into her face, but she was between the rabbit and his home and he knew it. Panic set in and his eyes were wild and white as she began to close the distance, She could feel the strain on her chest and her legs and hoped she could get close enough. She pushed forward putting on a small burst of speed and just as the rabbit slowed to dodge to the right she leaped closing her paws and teeth around the rabbits hind end and getting a solid kick to the stomach for her trouble. But she'd slowed it enough that she was able to scramble forward and administer a sloppy killing bite to the small rabbits spine.

Panting and covered with blood and dirt she dragged the small very young rabbit back to the group. Triumph flowed off of her in waves and she looked at Quailfeather and then at Gingerpaw. She blinked at the tom and then smiled kindly. "I think i got lucky is all." She mewed calmly. She was doing her best to make nice with Gingerpaw.

Pebblestorm was staring at nothing until a plump brown rabbit passed her vision. She chased the rabbit for a couple of heartbeats. Then, the rabbit was gone. Ugh, she thought as she returned to the group.

Gingerpaw stayed silent. This proved he wasn't good for much. Patrolling? Maybe, but never hunting.

Pebblestorm shook off the grogginess from her head and smelled a rabbit.  The chase was on!  A few heartbeats passed, and the rabbit was slowing down.  She used her last bit of energy to catch the rabbit.
