Rosepaw's Assessment

"Let's go Rosepaw," Thrushstar said, poking his head into the apprentice's den as he called for her. When he was finished, he backed out and headed to the entrance of the camp.

Rosepaw's ears twitched when she had heard her name, she glanced towards the exit of the apprentice den assuming it was Thrushstar that called for her. Shaking herself awake the apprentice quickly followed after her mentor only assuming that they were going hunting since during leafbare the prey pile is always low. Rosepaw followed after Thrushstar and asked him a question, "Where to?"

When she caught up to him, Thrushstar stood up again and began to pad out into the territory. "Tonight, we will be doing your assessment." When they got far enough into the territory, the leader finally stopped again, taking a quick look around at the cold, almost desolate land. It was always rough doing assessments during this time of year, so he was a little more lenient on these apprentices. "Here is what... you do. You have until sunrise to catch as much prey as... you can. I will be watching your progress but you won't see me. You can use as much of the territory as you... want, so don't be shy about getting close to the borders." He told her. "You are free to begin when you please."

Rosepaw froze in her tracks, huh an assessment now? She felt that she did not have nearly all the skills to become a full warrior of Shadowclan but if Thrushstar.. the leader of her clan believed that she was ready then she must have been. She shook away her doubts and anxiety, it was time to do this! "Okay" Rosepaw answered confidently as she quickly slipped away eager to start. It was going to be difficult to catch food during leafbare but she didn't want to disappoint Thrushstar she quickly crouched down looking for anything to catch.

She had discovered a toad.. not sure what it was doing out during leaf bare but she decided to go for it. She leaped forward however the toad was to slippery and managed to get away from her claws, Rosepaw let out a annoyed hiss but didn't give up. It was a challenge hunting during leafbare but it will help her improve in the long run.

It started out just as the leader expected. He was actually surprised that she found something so quickly but that's about where the shock stopped. He continued to watch her quietly from downwind, trying not to startle her.

She again crouched down and followed the scent of prey, she was totally focused she had to do this correctly she didn't want to fail this assessment she wanted to be a warrior for her clan! Rosepaw again saw another frog this time she was ready, pouncing onto it she sank her claws into its skin biting down onto its head she finally caught something! Her eyes lit up with excitement she was happy!

That's what he was looking for. It was impressive to watch her catch something on her second try. Hopefully her luck would continue.

Every mistake comes with a lesson, and every cat makes mistakes. She was confident that she would do well in her assessment and catch as much as she could before sunset. Rosepaw continued to look around she drew closer to the border, she wasn't afraid if another clan comes running around she had Thrushstar watching her after all. She followed the scent of food and crouched down when she spotted it, she pounced however the frog managed to slip away and escape. It was a failure however she didn't give up. She continued to hunt she wanted to show Thrushstar that she wouldn't give up even if she failed.

Well, he hoped that her luck would continue but it didn't seem like it would. At the same time, he half expected this outcome with the season. The snow that blanketed the landscape would make it exceedingly difficult, but nonetheless, Thrushstar didn't lose hope.

She again began to look around for prey, when she spotted one she quickly lunged forward, clawing it and catching it sucessfully. She wasn't doing good so far but the sun was still high in the sky she had plenty of time to prove herself.
