"Congratulations." Adderpaw mewed breezily, flicking her ear. "Glad to know that at least some cat is capable of hunting well." She mewed, flashing a glance at Sunblaze when she spoke, continuing to praise her denmate; Pansypaw had always been a more worthy adversary in Adderpaw's eyes. Rolling her shoulders, she began to play the modesty card easily, "Although I'm not nearly as good when it comes to hunting, you better believe I can give you a run for your fur when it comes to a fight." She purred out the friendly challenge, curious due to the fact that she had never seen Pansypaw actually battle train. Tasting the air tactfully, it was hard to distinguish anything over the scent of snow, Pansypaw's dead robin, and the jumbled scent of all the cats together. Much to her surprise, she managed to scent the warm, mouth-watering scent of a Chaffinch. Stalking forward cautiously, she quickly followed the scent with silent paw steps, and found the bird pecking at the roots of a tree; totally oblivious to her approach. Adderpaw dropped into a smooth, powerful crouch as she tensed her hind-legs below her, before exploding forward in a silent, deadly leap that the poor creature didn't notice until it was too late. Easily catching the bird within her grasp, she gave it a quick nip to the neck that killed the feathered creature instantly. Adderpaw scooped up the rather plump Chaffinch and proudly strutted back towards the patrol, the heavy bird humping against her chest and forelegs. She hurriedly buried the Chaffinch in a shallow hole beside where Pansypaw buried her catch, before turning to meet the other she-cat's smug look with a titled chin and a sly smirk.

Pansypaw's regained pride took a slight dip when Adderpaw mentioned her expertise in fighting. Glancing at the ground for a split second, she consoled herself in her mind. Cherrymist hasn't taken me for battle training yet; but that's okay! Looking up again, she smirked arrogantly, her head tilted upward slightly. When we do get there though, she's gonna have to watch her fur. Licking one of her front paws, she began to quickly groom her ears as she glanced around for more prey. She heard Adderpaw make her catch, and offered her a congratulatory tail flick without taking her eyes off of the forest.

Meeting Pansypaw's arrogant look with her usual molten, fierce stare, Adderpaw sized up the other apprentice with the faintest glimmer of interest; perhaps there was something there within Pansypaw that needed to be coaxed out. "I'll need to speak with Viperpaw and Whitepaw," She reflected, her gaze narrowing slightly, "But perhaps Pansypaw is worth our time and effort." She mused, ear twitching before sitting down, her momentary interest fading. Raising a large paw, she began to lap at her frozen, partly numb pads- curse this cold weather, scanning the forest with one eyes. "Well what now?" Adderpaw questioned between her lapping, "I don't know how much more we'll encounter." She mewed, pausing briefly to tug at a small burr that was tangled in the soft fur that billowed around her pads, flashing a quick look at Pansypaw and Sunblaze.

Pansypaw rose her tail suddenly as Adderpaw talked, signaling for quiet.  She had spotted something. A squirrel had scampered down from a nearby tree, and was rummaging through the bushes for it's stash of food. The bi-color apprentice began to creep forward slowly, but noticed how many sticks lay in her path; and how cautious the squirrel was being. Shifting her gaze to examine the terrain, she noticed a large snowdrift to her left, and an open path in the trees to her right. An idea blooming in her mind, she make eye contact with Adderpaw and twitched her ears, signaling her to creep up behind the snowdrift and block the squirrel's escape, while Pansypaw made the kill from the clear path. She hoped the she-cat would agree to her silent plan.

Adderpaw watched with observant eyes as Pansypaw made silently pointed out the snow-drift and the possible escape route that the squirrel would have if the grey and white she-cat happened to slip up. With a flash of understanding, she dropping into a stealthy crouch and quickly moved towards the snow-drift, her paws not even making a sound as they carefully brushed against the cold, brittle ground. Taking extra care to make a rather wide arc to where the snow-drift was, Adderpaw brushed silently against the cold mound, dropping into a tense crouch as peeped from the snowy pile, amber eyes signaling to Pansypaw that she was in place and that she could now go after the squirrel without the fear of it escaping. "Now let's see what you're all about." She mused with a flash of anticipation; her tail quivering ever-so slightly.

Pansypaw watched out of the corner of her eye as Adderpaw moved into position, as she herself creept stealthily along the clear path. With the squirrel in sight, she dropped down into a pouncing position, waggled her haunches, and leaped. She landed a little short, and the squirrel noticed. It tried to run, but Pansypaw managed to snag it's fluffy tail in her claws. Pulling the creature toward her, she bent her head to make the kill but the squirrel twisted away from her. As it began to run, Pansypaw yowled "Get it Adderpaw!"

Adderpaw's ears flattened as the squirrel escaped from Pansypaw's grasp, but she remained partially hidden behind the snow-drift, muscles tensing as she waited for the small creature to skitter by. Tensing her legs beneath her crouched form, her eyes narrowed as she heard the squirrel's frantic pawsteps grow closer; well here goes nothing! Exploding from behind the snow-drift, Adderpaw lunged for the small creature, her powerful leap quickly and silently closing the distance between herself and the squirrel. She landed squarely on the small creatures back and snapped its spine; killing it instantly and painlessly, before she scooped it up in her jaws and turned back to Pansypaw. "Even though you slipped up, perhaps it's a good idea to start hunting in pairs like this." Adderpaw mumbled through her full mouth as she hurried back to the other she-cat.

Sunblaze sniffed around for any sign of prey she picked a up a scent of sparrown. She leapt up onto one of the branches and brought it down with a bite to the neck. "You're right, Adderpaw. I think we have enough prey now!"

Leafstream did the same. A fat russet body appeared infront of him and he pounced killing it with a swipe to the head. "I agree." Leafstream piped in.

Pansypaw stood up, shaking snow off of her pelt. She watched as Adderpaw skillfully took down the squirrel, and padded over to her. Purring, she replied to Adderpaw "Yea, we make a great team!" Pansypaw's murky green eyes glittered happily as she shot Adderpaw a friendly smile. Turning with her tail high, she trotted back to Highpine and began to uncover her robin. The bird hanging from her jaws, she nodded to the others. "I'm ready to go when you are."

Flicking her tail in agreement, Adderpaw turned and headed back to the Highpine, tearing up the already soft, churned up dirt with quick, powerful swipes to uncover her freshly-killed Chaffinch. Stretching her jaws wide, she struggled to grasp both the Squirrel and Chaffinch; her mouth feeling awkwardly wide and full. Turning back to the rest of the patrol, she gazed at Pansypaw, Sunblaze, and Leafstream, with a comical-looking appearance. "Ya, reddy when you guyths arr." Adderpaw struggled to say the words through the mouthful of prey as she began to pad away from the Highpine.

Pansypaw could help but giggle at Adderpaw's burden, but thankfully the sound was muffled by the bird in her mouth. Nodding to the others, she began to pad back towards camp.
