A White Sun. (Open patrol topic)

Viperpaw nodded towards Sunblaze, the flicker of her tail determined. "It's fine," she said, looking around. "I'll try again!" Viperpaw crept forwards, her paws touching the ground meekly. The sun scorched the sky, yet the snowy ground remained untouched. Her paws made a crunching sound, as they sunk into the fresh packing snow. Her palette soaked with saliva with anticipation, she caught vague sight of a raccoon.

Her ears perked, she crawled forwards. She unsheathed her claws, the glistening, melted snow sparkling like a cap on her nose. Her eyes blinked slowly, and a blur caught her attention. Come on, Viperpaw, she thought. I have to catch this one. The apprentice stepped forwards, quicker now, heart rate speeding up. "There you are," she mewed to herself, tartly and dryly. Hackles rising, she sprung.

Oh no!

Now there were two raccoons. She skidded back. "Guys, guys, run!" Viperpaw squealed with alarm.

SUnblaze turned tail and listened to Viperpaw's heed. Not cowardice.she repeated in her mind. "We should head back to camp now."Sunblaze announced to her big patrol.

Leafstream was right on her heels darting the branches and vines that reached out to grab him.

Viperpaw nodded. She backed up, until she was brushed against Sunblaze. She looked up at the larger feline. "Yeah," she agreed. "I can hunt along the way though, right?" Viperpaw asked. She desperately wanted to catch something.

"Sure."Sunblaze replied, personally she wanted to herself so she did so she made her way a bit further and picked up the scent of blackbird. She leaped up onto a tree and brought down the bird with a blow to the neck.

Leafstream was further along the back hunting as well. He pounced on a crow and killed it with a bite to the neck.

Viperpaw smiled. She creeped along the side, and soon spotted a raccoon. She picked her way further to the side, and she waved her tail low and silently. A bit of dust swept up into a small flurry of golden. She scampered, getting scared.

She didn't expect to hit it. Of course, Sunblaze could have prohibited her from taking the chance, so she was modest. She finally saw the raccoon come into range. She frowned and tried to run away, claws unsheathed. "I saw a raccoon again," she said with worry. She waved up to Sunblaze.

Whitepaw decided to catch something herself other than raccoons. She had never hunted before and decided to give it a try. She wasn't gonna show her terrible hunting skills in front of everybody though. The scent of raccoon still lingered the air and her tail stiffened. What if I'm attacked by raccoons? But there was a woodpecker nearby, she couldn't lose this chance! The tabby cat dug her claws into the tree the bird was on and scrambled upwards. Just as she was about to kill the bird, one of her paws slipped and she let out an agonizing yowl. Dear StarClan! It was enough to startle the creature, and it flew away. She manage to regain her balance before she slipped. Then she went down the tree, tail twitching with frustration.

Viperpaw looked at Whitepaw. "Hey," she said encouragingly. "It wasn't a raccoon!" Viperpaw came up to Whitepaw, placing her forepaws on the rough bark of the tree. She let them off when the other she-cat came skidding down. She walked back to Sunblaze, watching the woodpecker fly off into the bland, grey sky. Viperpaw beckoned for the younger apprentice to join her and Sunblaze. She decided to check on Leafstream. The tomcat seemed inclined on hunting as well. After all, that was the purpose of this patrol! Viperpaw continued padding on, pondering wether or not she should take her chances at hunting again or not. The place seemed to be riddled with raccoons.

After stepping into camp with Whitepaw and Viperpaw by Sunblaze's side she dropped her prey off and headed into the clearing to see if anyone needed help.

Leafstream brought up the rear and dropped his prey off too and went straight to the warrior's den.

Viperpaw entered camp, alongside Whitepaw, Sunblaze, and Leafstream. Her tail streaked the ground like a greyish blaze. The sun illuminated a rather gloomy sky.

Whitepaw lowered her head when she went back in camp. She had lost her chance to feed the clan. I'm sorry! I'm sorry! She whispered.
