Mottledpaw's Warrior Ceremony

She was a cat Darkstar hadn't seen in a while, but she was a good cat nonetheless. The fluffy leader climbed up onto her perch and called out, "All cats old enough to catch their own prey, gather under the Highrock for a clan meeting!"

Smiling brightly, a beautiful mottled red she-cat stepped out of the apprentice's den. Mottledpaw - which she would not be known as for much longer - seemed to glide, rather than walk, over to the Highrock. Darkstar's words were like a prophecy to her ears. Her paws skimmed the snow, fluffy as a dove's downy feathers. Purring, Mottledpaw took a seat near the middle of the currently minuscule crowd. She looked over her shoulder at Blacktwig, her father, as he joined her. He licked her ears, crooning over her in a very paternal way. "What's all the fuss?" Mottledpaw asked. "It's only a ceremony." Mottledpaw grinned once more, and her smile was like a crescent moon. Of course, no cat is perfect, and she definitely wasn't, but to Blacktwig, she was.

"You'll see," Blacktwig promised, smiling. Giving one last rasp over Mottledpaw's ear, he sat back, remembering Mothstrike woefully. The news had affected both him and Mottledpaw, yet this was a special time to lift his spirits. No longer would he be sad, but he should be consoled. Darkstar was beginning his daughter's warrior ceremony!

Darkstar tilted her head to face the apprentice. "It is time another apprentice to join the warriors. Mottledpaw, please, step forward." Once the she-cat had done so, she continued. "I, Darkstar, Leader of Thunderclan, call upon my warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentice. She has trained hard to understand the ways of your noble code, and I commend her to you as a warrior in her turn. Mottledpaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code and to protect and defend your Clan, even at the cost of your life?"

Mottledpaw was shocked, as she stepped forwards to face the leader. Her father had gone through these protocols, and her deceased sister... no. She wouldn't think about that. Now she was becoming a warrior. Her gaze fixated on Darkstar's face, wispy strands of dark fur, gleaming yellow eyes. "I do," she pledged. She felt like she was about to burst on the inside, but she kept a serious expression on the outer side.

Blizzardshine smiled at the apprentice as she got ready to receive her warrior name and finally join their ranks. Her gaze strayed to Blacktwig for a second, the loss of Mothstrike had been devastating for him, but this event brought back the old tom she had started to miss “Then by the powers of StarClan, I give you your warrior name. Mottledpaw, from this moment you will be known as Mottledwing. StarClan honors your determination and enthusiasm, and we welcome you as a full warrior of ThunderClan” With that, she leaped off the Highrock and rested her muzzle on the newly named warrior’s head to conclude the ceremony “Congratulations”.

Mottledwing felt like squealing with pride. The red-and-white she-cat's tail waved like an overly-excited dog. Mottledwing's smile shone brightly, like the sun hanging above. The warrior had also been very upset over the loss of Mothstrike, but this served as a numbing procedure for her. She nodded to Blizzardshine thankfully, and stepped down, looking at her father with a look of victory in her hazel eyes. "Father!" Mottledwing chirped, bounding up to him. "I'm a warrior now!" Mottledwing's tail curled and lifted as she spoke, and she raised her chin, her legs stiffening. She appeared to look like a mural of a majestic cat for a moment, before meeting Blacktwig's gaze, grinning uncontrollably. She adored her new name.

Blacktwig watched as Blizzardshine rested her muzzle upon his daughter's head, and in that same instant, granting her with her warrior name. Anticipation nipped at Blacktwig, as he wondered what her name would be. When it was spoken, his impatience vanished in an instant, and was replaced with pride. What a beautiful name, for a beautiful cat! Blacktwig thought with pride, as Mottledwing leapt down to greet him. He purred as she approached, and rubbed his muzzle against her soft neck. "Congratulations, Mottledwing!" he said. "I'm going to have to get used to calling you that..." he broke off in a slight chuckle. He couldn't believe it... the small, red she-kit he had once sired as a ball of fluff, now a fully grown warrior. He had lived through another lifetime. In reality, it was strange to think about. Nonetheless, he congratulated her, bursting and brimming with pride.
