Tigerpaw's Assesament [closed]

Sitting near the entrance of camp, Antdrop waited for Tigerpaw. Today, he'd assess the younger tom to see if he was ready to become a warrior. Yawning, the warrior flexed his claws, digging them into the soft earth as he waited.

Tigerpaw bounded up, his yellow eyes alight with excitement. This was it! He would finally be getting his assessment just like all his older brothers!
The striped tabby tom's white tail tip flicked side to side excitedly, his own fur fluffed up against the cold. He gazed at Antdrop happily, swaying on his toes.
"Let's go!" he purred, nudging his mentor with a happy grin and bounding off into the pine-needle littered forest.

Nodding, he followed Tigerpaw in silence. "We'll start with hunting," the tom meowed as they reached the center-ish part of the territory. "Go hunt at least four pieces of prey and then come back here. I'll be examining how well you do," Antdrop added.

Tigerpaw nodded vigorously, waiting until Antdrop had disappeared behind the old pines before opening his mouth to scent the air.


The tom's first catch was a squirrel, burying nuts on the ground. It was so engrossed in its task that Tigerpaw was able to come relatively close before dropping into a hunter's crouch, his muscles rippling beneath his coat that looked eerily similar to a cat from Tigerclan.
When he was about a tail-length away, the squirrel finally glanced up, doing a perfect double take at the cat behind it. But it was too long of a time to waste, and within a heartbeat the warm taste of blood filled the tabby's mouth as the bones crunched in his fangs. He buried the squirrel where he'd found it, and moved onwards.

Two fat mice were found near a rotting tree stump, and he was able to catch one with each paw. It nearly ended up with him lying in an awkward position face-down in the dirt, but after moons of training he was able to give a quick, painless killing bite to each. Tigerpaw buried both together next to the dead stump and almost immediately caught the scent of a vole.
He was exhausted from hunting and sniffing around for prey all day, but was determined to become a warrior the same time as his littermates, even if he had been apprenticed later than them.

He found it snuffling around near the border, and he tensed, unsure. He didn't want to risk it. But it was food, and there was only so much time left, so he leapt, claws unsheathed. Luckily, it was fat, ready for winter, and he had killed it easily.

Dropping the prey on the ground, he waited for Antdrop to appear, his tail thumping the ground excitedly. He'd done it!

Once the apprentice was out of sight, Antdrop followed silently behind, watching through the brush as Tigerpaw started hunting. He had definitely made great strides of improvement since his early apprentice days and after a while of observing, his apprentice finished up. "Good job," the tom meowed with an approving nod, but per usual, didn't smile. "Of course there are places that need improvement, but overall you did well. Let's head back to camp," he added and turned around, padding back home.

Tigerpaw broke into a grin. That was most likely the nicest thing Antdrop had ever said to him—he tuned out during the rest of his feedback.

The apprentice dashed off towards camp, his amber and black fur flying behind him. Finally!
