A Simple Dawn Patrol (CLOSED)

Thistlepaw waited by the camp entrance, keeping his pelt from brushing against the bramble wall. He hoped for another cat to come along, join him on a aptrol, he had been dying to get out of camp. The older apprentice huffed, the cool dawn air finding its way to his skin, he shivered in response.

Willowpaw rushed over to thistlepaw and sat by his side. "Going on a patrol?" She questioned.

Making his way to the entrance, Smokepelt spotted his son and his apprentice having a chat. "Mind if I join you?" the soft voiced tom meowed with a smile. It was time for Willowpaw to be assessed and a patrol would be a good way to take his mind off of all his worries, for a little while at least.

Thistlepaw nodded towards the smaller, rather pretty she-cat. "Of course!" He was glad some cat wanted to come along. Then, looking up, he noticed his father and mentor approaching as well. It quickly dawned on him that Willowpaw was his apprentice as well as himself. The older apprentice smiled as Smokepelt got closer, "I'd love if you joined us." He informed, happy to have his father coming along.

Following the two apprentices out of camp, Smokepelt looked to Willowpaw, his adopted daughter. "Today I'll assess you," he meowed with a smile and then turned to Thistlepaw. "Thistlepaw already passed his assessment, but I bet you'll do great too," he added with a smile.

Thistlepaw nodded, happy to be addressed as the cat who already finished what had to get done. He glanced at Willowpaw, wondering how well she'd do.

Willlowpaw caught a glance from Thistlepaw and smiled back, flipping her tail to indicate that she was ready to start the patrol.

Padding out of the camp, Smokepelt and the two apprentices headed to the moor. "We'll start with hunting," he meowed to Willowpaw and sat down once they got pretty deep in the tall grass. "Show me what you know."

Thistlepaw sat down behind Smokepelt, keeping a keen eye on Willowpaw, who was just a few lengths ahead. He began to wonder what Smokepelt was going to have him do, he wasn't getting assessed, but perhaps he could just hunt after Willowpaw was finished getting tested.

Willowpaw sniffed the air. She crouched down quickly. Rabit! She thought to herself. She looked around and spotted a fluffy white tail popping out of the tall grass. She readied herself and focused on the hare. She counted, one, two, three, POUNCE!!! Leaping onto the hare, she landed  right on top of the hare and grasped it in her mouth, finishing it off with a bite to the neck. She dropped the hare in front of Smokepelt and Thistlepaw, burying it slightly after.

She looked behind her and scented the air again. Vole! She dropped back into a hunters crouch and looked around. She caught sight of the vole and got ready to leap. She stared right at the vole, hoping to Starclan that she would catch this prey. She got ready to pounce. She jumped in front of the vole and ended him with a blow to the neck. She buried the plump vole by a tree and turned around to head back to Smokepelt. She turned around to the land around her.

She sniffed the air once more, and she caught no scent. She walked away from Smokepelt and Thistlepaw a little, and soon caught the scent of a mouse. She looked around in the tall grass, hoping to see the mouse. Soon, she spotted the mouse off in the distance. She crept a few foxlengths forward, and soon she was a little less than a tail length away. She looked back at Thistlepaw and Smokepelt, and back over to her prey. She pounced towards the mouse, her body and mind taking over, and she soon had a nicce, plump mouse hanging from her mouth. She buried the mouse where she was and headed back over to Smokepelt and Thistlepaw.

Waiting for the apprentice to return to them with some prey, Smokepelt turned to Thistlepaw. "You're welcome to stay with me or go hunt. But just a warning, I'm pretty boring company," he chuckled to his adopted son. Before long, Willowpaw came scampering back with a vole and left again to catch some more prey. Soon enough, the apprentice came back and Smokepelt smiled his usual calm looking smile. "Good job, I'd say you've passed hunting," he said, standing up and giving his hind legs a stretch. "Now let's do some patrolling. Willowpaw, lead the way."

Thistlepaw was about to suggest something when he noticed Willowpaw coming back with prey. He nodded his own approval before turning to pad forward again. He watched as Willowpaw lead the way, and just in case she missed anything for some reason, he scanned over everything, and scented the air as well.
