Can't step in the same river twice? [Closed]

Winds rustled through the reeds, parting them in a gently as Frogpaw slipped through the territory. Having grown up in Sunningrocks, the apprentice lacked the familiarity that the warriors who'd grown up around these parts had, however, he was a RiverClanner. Smooth stones, sand, reed beds and shallow pools were his friends, he knew when to step lightly and when to leap. He looked surprisingly graceful as he slinked past swathes of green, searching with yellow eyes for something to hunt in the moonlight.

Perhaps it wasn't the most sensible time to be out alone, but he was restless. The way the woods of ThunderClan loomed over their camp always struck a chord of unease through him. He felt vulnerable, as if he was being watch like prey.

He wasn't meant to live near a forest, the blood in his veins called for the wetlands. And who was he to ignore his blood's calling?

When the slight flutter of wings was heard in the distance, he dropped into a crouch as he scurried through till he could almost taste the scent of the fishing heron. That was until he caught another familiar scent of a RiverClan warrior.

'Huh? I'm not alone.'

"That's right, you're not." Tawnystorm stepped out of the reeds, glaring at the apprentice. She'd been unable to sleep, and the warrior thought the best way to put her mind at rest would be to get out and do some hunting. After all, the fish still swim at night. She'd just caught a salmon when she scented Frogpaw. She saw no reason for him to be out at this time, but that being said, there wasn't much reason she was here either. Well, at least I'm doing something productive!
"Can you tell me what you're doing out here, Frogpaw? Unless you're hunting or doing something otherwise useful, I suggest you head back to camp."

"Shh!" Frogpaw hissed, twitching his ears in the direction of the heron that was currently spearing roaches with it's beak. The bird paused for a second when it heard Tawnystorm, however was quick to return to fishing when there was no movement in the reeds. "I've been watching that thing for a while. Thank StarClan you've come along, I was kinda worried I had to take that down alone. You're a good hunter, reckon you can help? I promise to go back to camp and sleep after we catch it." He whispered as loudly as he dared, yellow eyes still locked upon the bird that fished oblivious to the danger it was in. As it was rather large, it seemed that the bird was under the impression that nothing could hunt it.

Tawnystorm eyed the heron. Frogpaw was right, it would be hard to catch - but would make excellent prey. "Fine. Just don't take too long." The she-cat crouched down low and stalked through the reeds. The bird was seemingly oblivious to her, and if it wasn't it clearly didn't think she'd be able to kill it. That might be true. She might be able to hunt it on her own, but it was large, and there was a higher risk of not succeeding. No, she'd need help, as much as she didn't want to admit it. "Psst, Frogpaw," she whispered, as loud as she dared to. "Are you going to help me take this down or just stand there doing nothing?"

A roguish grin overtook his handsome features as he heard Tawnystorm's whisper through the reeds. Glancing over at the tabby one last time, he snaked around on his belly over rocks before he dug his claws in and pounced. It all happened in a instant, a flutter of feathers as he lunged for the bird's long throat. His claws dug into it's chest, and his jaws tried to clamp onto it's next but he just couldn't manage to bite down properly. They locked at a weird angle again, the same problem that he'd had when he tried to hunt fish. His jaws were just... weak.

"Tawnystorm!" He meowed, barely clinging onto the flapping bird. The heron couldn't take off with his weight on it, however, without a killing bite, the bird was still lively.

Tawnystorm leaped onto the heron as well, pinning it down and stopping it's crazed flapping with a sharp, precise bite to neck. She felt the bird go limp under them. "Good job tackling this huge thing," she meowed to Frogpaw with an affirming nod. She knew the apprentice has a...problematic jaw, and while she wasn't surprised he wasn't able to bite the heron, she was surprised how he could cling onto it. Maybe she'd underestimated him, but his inability to hunt well and time would tell. "Come on, we've got to lug this back to Sunningrocks. It'll be a great meal for RiverClan, though."

Under her praise, Frogpaw preened a bit, a flash of glee flickering into his eyes, though he was quick meowed modestly. "You did most of the work though. You're really a good hunter, Tawnystorm." Which was true, Tawnystorm had been the one to kill the heron in the end. His useless jaw only managed to wound, not kill like he had hoped but the warrior's words gave him renewed hope. Perhaps he would make a decent hunter. "Ack, I'm regretting catching this already. We're going to have to drag this across the river, aren't we?"
