Speckledpaw's Assessment

Mudfoot sat near the entrance of camp, enjoying the cool weather. The storm recently moved away from camp, leaving puddles of watery mud everywhere, and luckily he found a patch of grass to sit on that the mud didn't reach. A cool breeze ruffled the tom's fur and the came was growing dark from the setting sun as he waited for Speckledpaw. His apprentice had trained hard, and Mudfoot had confidence that she would do great on her assessment. That is, if she could wake up on time,

Speckledpaw blinked the sleep out of her eyes as she padded out of the apprentice's den and over to the entrance of camp, getting her paws covered in mud the entire time. She looked up at her mentor and mewed, "ready...".

Getting up, the tom padded silently out of camp and slowed the pace so he walked next to his apprentice. "For your assessment, you'll be leading this patrol," he meowed with a smile. It may have seemed like a challenge, but it was one of the best ways to prepare Speckledpaw for later in life.

Speckledpaw nodded in understanding. She had seen many warriors lead patrols, and honestly how hard could it be? Speckledpaw mustered up her voice so she could speak a few full sentences to explain where they would be heading. With a large breath she very quickly mewed, "We can patrol the Skyclan and old Thunderclan borders first. With Riverclan, Thunderclan, and Skyclan in two piece of land, they have the most cats and could be an imminent threat to Shadowclan if they get angry or power hungry...". She let out a long breath after she spoke. I dont think I've spoken that much my entire life! It better be worth it! she thought as they walked through the territory to the borders.

Mudfoot stayed quiet, letting his apprentice lead the way, and was surprised when she spoke since Speckledpaw was usually very quiet. "Very good, I see that you've been paying attention to some warrior's conversations," the tom chuckled, glad to see that she was able to learn quickly. The patrol padded towards the borders and soon enough, they reached the old ThunderClan border. Mudfoot marked a few places a little ways away from Speckledpaw and made his way back to his apprentice, ready to move on.

Speckledpaw was suprised at how quickly they had marked the borders. We have some time... she thought. She gave another large breath before mewing, "We should hunt...".

Speckledpaw padded forward on their route back to camp whilst scenting for prey. She eventually scented vole. Speckledpaw motioned towards it with her tail to make sure Mudfoot knew what she was doing, and stalked off of their route towards the smell. After amoment of stalking she was within pouncing length of hte target, which was searching for seeds on the forest floor. Within a moment, she had pounced and killed her target. Speckledpaw grabbed her prey, and padded back towards where she left Mudfoot.

Mudfoot followed Speckledpaw and stopped when she scented something. The tom waited for his apprentice and soon enough, she came back with a vole. "Good job," he meowed with a smile. They could've done more hunting, but he had faith in her that she knew what she was doing. Giving a nod for her to continue, he wondered where she would take him next.

Speckledpaw kept going on her patrol and eventually she had caught two mice and the vole from earlier. She looked back to her mentor and quietly mewed, "head back?".

Mudfoot followed his apprentice, glad that she was successful with her hunting. "You did good today," he meowed with a smile.

Speckledpaw flicked her and mewed a muffled thanks to Mudfoot as they padded back to camp.
