One Last Chance To Change

OOC: If I'm correct, Scorch and Dark's ceremonies are going on right now, so we'll just do this as when they're all still apprentices.


Scorchpaw led Thinstripe deep into the forbidden territory where Cinnamonpaw and Honeypaw were told to meet them. He prayed his sisters would not let him down. He didn't know what he would say when Darkpaw saw him. Would the odd-eyed tom turn and run? Attack? He sat down in the dense meeting spot where they wouldn't be found and thought about what he would say. All he wanted was to make amends, and give him mother what she'd always wanted, to know her kits and how strong they'd become. But there was darkness in the young cat's heart that he wouldn't be able to get rid of alone. He sighed quietly, turning to his mother. "Do you think they'll recognize you?"

He was about to speak, he really was, but something made him hold back. Downwind and concealed in a rather thick bush, Darkpaw was unable to be detected by the intruders, and he had just stopped himself from yowling out to them that they were trespassing because something about the two caught his attention. First of all, they were Thunderclan, and Darkpaw was fully convinced that Thunderclan cats were 100% crazy and 0% sane. Second of all, Darkpaw recognized the two, and a wave of fear paralyzed him. Thinstripe and Scorchpaw, the two Thunderclan cats who were 110% crazy -10000% sane. They were his family, his kin, his blood, but Darkpaw refused them and their evil hearts.

The Riverclan tom's white fur was covered in a layer of dark mud to help hide his scent and make sure he blended in with the underbrush. There was no way he could be seen unless if he revealed himself, and he wasn't going to do that until he felt the time was right.

Thinstripe sighed "I don't know, Scorchpaw" she mewed "I really just want to see them" she looked around for any sigh of Darkpaw, Cinnamonpaw, and Honeypaw's coat.

A small tiny thin golden she cat padded through the forest, she and her brother were supposed to be "hunting" when she lost sight of them, how could you lost a white cat in the forest? Apparently very easily considering he was no where in sight. But then she saw a very thick bush and shook her head there was no way he was inside that thing. Or was he? She didn't know so she did the obvious thing and called out his name. "Darkpaw!!!" Honeypaw's cold ice blue eyes scanned the forest and her ears swiveled around for any sign of movement or sound. Her semi-fluffy honey colored fur realized she would have to find him quick before she found her family. She feared that Scorchpaw and Thinstripe would be disappointed because she couldn't keep up with Darkpaw and lost him, but it was to late she saw her brother and a warrior that looked like she could be their mother. So quickly she padded over and touched noses with Scorchpaw. She stood back to look at her mother before quickly darting over and burying her muzzle into her chest fur.

"Honeypaw, you made it!" he cried joyfully, watching as she accepted their mother. "This is Thinstripe. She's our mother! ... Where's Darkpaw?" He understood Cinnamonpaw's delay, since she was a good distance away, but Honeypaw was supposed to be escorting their brother.

Honeypaw backed up. "Its so nice to finally meet you, mom." The she cat purred then flattened her ears when she heard her brother. "Well you see Darkpaw is really big and so me being really tiny I couldn't keep up and i lost him. I followed his scent trail but it ended in some mud. But I think he may be around here somewhere." The golden she cat admitted a little shamefully. Of course leave it to the runt of the litter to muck things up.

Thinstripe nodded "Ah" she mewed "I bet if we kept looking we might find him" she suggested nuzzling her daughter.

Cinnamonpaw soon made her way into the clearing, hidden by surrounding trees and underbrush. Many scents came rushing to her, Honeypaw, Darkpaw, Scorchpaw, and her father. There was another cat's scent that she did not recognize, well, if it was scorchpaw planning it it was probably my real mother. Cinnamonpaw thought that thought for a few moments as her slim body made its way to the group. Her dark red-ginger fur brushed against the bark of trees and ferns, catching tiny specks of dew. Her yellow eyes sparked in the shadows getting cast by the trees. She sighed "hello." making herself noticed on purpose.

Scorchpaw smiled. He ran up to Cinnamonpaw and nuzzled her, purring excitedly. "You're here! This is our mother, this is Thinstripe! Quick, help me find Darkpaw. He's around here somewhere..." He started nosing around the area. "Please, Darkpaw," he muttered into the forest, "We just want you here for a few minutes... It would make Honeypaw so happy!"

Cinnamonpaw had a faint burst of joy and excitement Her brother, scorchpaw, had greeted her. Then she stiffened and stood still, her breath stopped for a few moments just to return heavily. A bit of craziness sparked in her eyes, Real mother? Thinstripe? It was all to confusing. And she didn't want to leave her shadowclan family behind, they had always been there for her. And now, her biological mother. Shatteredsoul and Thinstripe had abandoned her at shadowclan, giving her a false family. A false life. She wanted to cry, and run back to the gorge. To think about jumping. Yet, she couldn't give up or show weakness yet. She still needed to rule the forest alongside her genetically related denmates. Then she shook her head and plastered on a fake smile "Hey!" she exclaimed 'happily'.

The air was filled with so much joy that it was almost tangible. For a brief moment, Darkpaw felt a longing feeling inside of his chest; a feeling of want. He wanted a family, not just him and his sister, but a mother and all of his siblings. Though the feeling was only brief and Darkpaw hated that he had felt that way about his family, it was enough to make the tom gently rustle the bush he was concealed in. After a few seconds, Darkpaw cautiously pushed through the sticks and leaves of the plant, thorns from the bush tugging at his pelt as he crawled out. By the time he had escaped, the bush's sticks had scraped off most of the mud that he had covered himself in and his scent filled the air.

Slowly, the Riverclan apprentice made his multi-colored eyes rise from the ground and stop on the four cats before him. Scorchpaw. Cinnamonpaw. Honeypaw. Thinstripe. His family. "There is no need to find me, Scorchpaw. I've been here the whole time. Honeypaw, you lied to me. You said we were going hunting, but instead you were setting me up for a trap?" Darkpaw looked away from his Riverclan sister and all the others who had gathered for the "family reunion". He stared deep into the forest, claws digging into the dirt. "I'm hurt, sister. I....I thought you were the only one I could trust." His voice wavered and cracked, causing Darkpaw to scrape deeper into the earth with his long, sharp, dagger-like claws. Tears threatened to spill out the corners of his eyes, but the apprentice held them in.

Thinstripe frowned, so this was Darkpaw...She walked over to him and licked his ear "At least you found out who your real mother is" she mewed softly.

"Well.. not a trap exactly, I only wanted us to meet our mother and our other sister. But is it wrong to want to know your family Darkpaw? If your mad I understand and I can live with that but I only wanted what was best for our family." The small tiny thin she cat meowed her cold ice blue eyes on her brother's hurt expression. She loved her brother but she also loved the rest of her family and now that she knew them she knew she couldn't turn around and forget them all, her heart was torn between loyalty to Riverclan and loyalty to her kin. If she had anymore stress she would snap and become exactly like their father only colder and more murderous, yet she didn't know that.

Scorchpaw stepped back towards his mother. "I'm sorry you had to be led here like that, but... I had to make sure I at least had the chance to apologize to you," he said softly. "Brothers shouldn't fight, at least not often. I acted against my better judgement, I was young and stupid then. I've learned, I've grown. You don't have to leave the clan you've grown to love, but we can keep in touch. We all should." He nudged Thinstripe. "I see my mother in your face, Darkpaw, our mother. We are all one in the same. Just... trust in me."
