Darkpaw's Assessment

Though this cat was not her apprentice, she felt a certain pride in holding their assessment in her paws. If her best apprentice, Lionsong, approved of him, then the bar was set only higher for Darkpaw. Despite being blind, Fogheart supervised as no other cat could, noticing how loud a splash was made or how heavily one dragged their paws, or even how much the breeze interacted with their scent after they'd already left. The warrior waited beside the opposite bank of the river, looking like a piece of low-hanging Spanish moss, tail trailing in the chilly waters.

Darkpaw stared at the River in horror. He wasn't a good swimmer and hated water, so how could he be able to pass his test if he couldn't even swim? The tom set his multi-colored gaze upon the blind warrior whom was carrying out his assessment. This had been the mentor of Lionsong, and she passed her assessment, so why couldn't Darkpaw? He was the apprentice of the leader, right? The leader is the best mentor there is, right? Gently, the white apprentice placed his black paws into the yucky water as he took a deep, shaky breath. "Am I supposed to swim over to you?" the tom asked in a voice that he hoped sounded calm and collected. This was going to be tough.
