Echo's Plebeian Art Dump (2012 - 2019)

Have I mentioned that your lines are very lovely? If I haven't, I am now. I try to make mine neat and straight, but they just look horrible all the time ;-; I never get past the sketching stage because of that. And even though I am quite late, this is a wonderful source of inspiration for when I feel like my artistic skills are inadequate.

Thank you so much! I used to struggle with lines a lot to the point where I refused to go past sketching phase; it's become a kind of bad habit now, seeing as I rarely finish a lot of my drawings, haha. If you have a drawing tablet and SAI, SAI has a stabilizer tool that you can use to help neaten your lines and make them look much better. A program called Lazy Nezumi helps with that even more (it's unfortunately not free, but it does have a 30-day trial you can abuse), getting rid of the weird ends at lines or stray marks that you might not want while smoothing your lines for you.

I'm really glad this inspires you. Keep up with drawing and you'll see how much you improve within even just a year!

I'm going to try to update bi-weekly or so. Anyway, I've been drawing a tiny bit here and there, but I've been having a lot of problems with my shoulders hurting after only an hour of drawing and it's kind of annoying having to take breaks constantly just so that I don't agitate my shoulders too much since I'm the sort of person that works in sudden but long bursts. Kind of disappointing, meaning I can't draw on a daily basis, so I've been taking a few days off here and there.

First two images are TotA characters; very first image was a WIP last time I updated with art and it's Tear. Second character is Anise and I was testing out a few things with her (aka I tried to make my shading slightly more complicated and failed).

Third one is me working out a reference for my Beata character, Adeline. I posted a chibi ref of her last time, but I've changed her design... again. Hopefully this is my last time messing around with the design too much because ajflsjf;; The dress feels kind of plain, though I couldn't think of anything to add onto it so yeah. @-@ forced myself to stop drawing chibis here 9 more chara refs to go after this. OTL lemme die

I've done way too much drawing in the past week in very random intervals that I'm half-dead. Pretty much everything is a sketch because I'm terrible at finishing my stuff and keep starting new things. Don't quite remember the order that I did these in, but I'll try to recall. Sort of. First one is of Frosty and Pika's charas on Beata, Morgan and Jonathan. Did it as a gift for them. Their charas are adorable, tbh. I love them a lot. Morgathan is one of my OTPs and this is one of the drawings I'm most proud of up to date.

Images 2 - 9 are Beata character design requests with 5 being a quick change for Adeline in the bangs and fixing a few things. In order, the characters are Graham/Gray (mine), Barry (Wild's), Callum (mine), Magic (Coon/Error's), Adeline (mine), Preston Raichu (Ebs/Tree's), Kimply (Frosty's), Cayden (Pika's), and Noa (Lilac's).

The tenth image is of Magic and Adeline because I owe Coon fluff ship art and I fail at life for it. They're my OTP and I don't draw them enough. Was a quick 20 - 30 minute sketch I did before I went to sleep. Pretty sure I did it at 2 or 3 AM on the day I was going to Anime Expo. lol Don't copy my example kids. Also, I hate kiss poses. Never again. i'm sorry coon

Sketched out more for my Abyss project. The characters this time are Ion and Mieu (the little creature hanging on his arm), Jade, and Natalia.

And then I was an idiot and spent 2 - 3 hours straight doing these six chibi sketches for my Abyss project instead of sleeping last night. They're the best group of antagonists ever - I love them all a lot. Seriously, guys, if you haven't gotten the hint, I love Tales of the Abyss a lot. << >>;;

Overall, a productive two weeks (if you count strictly sketching as productive), but I don't think I'll be drawing too much for awhile since I've overworked my shoulder again. Hopefully I'll try to get around to finishing more pieces instead of simply sketching everything and not being committed.

Okay, they look amazing! I showed some to my sister and she's got a question: "How do you do the sparkle/shine in the hair?" I'm kinda curious too, even though I never draw hair.

Ah, let's see... Do you mean in, say, the Bass one? As I've said throughout the topic beforehand, I'm using Paint Tool SAI for all of my drawings, so I've always made a new layer with Clipping Group for the hair shine. Hair shine, for me, I do after doing darker shading, so the layer order should be (from bottom to top): Base Color > Hair Shine > Darker Shading.

Why do I put hair shine beneath darker shading? It's because I like to use a bunch of shapes for my shine and placing it underneath the already perfected shading allows me to keep said shapes without having to erase the shining over and over again. Unlike a lot of other people, I don't like to use Luminosity Mode for shading - instead, I just choose a color lighter (usually somewhat close to white), and have the color natural instead.

I have a huge obsession with using shapes, especially diamonds. It's pretty noticeable in my finished pictures. For chibis, I like to mimic the shape of the hair with the shine color on one side and then leave the lowest and furthest part of the hair without any; a really mishaped 'N' is added (orientation however) and then I toss in a few diamonds here and there. As for normal-proportioned drawings, I do a lot less shiny but still stick to diamonds, a few circles, and such. It's a pretty simple process, to be honest. >_<

They're really entertaining and the messages are convincing enough to make you think they're human when you're messaging them.

I'm definitely going to keep practicing and keep trying to improve as much as I can. Hopefully I don't drop off the surface for art all of a sudden. I'm really glad you like my designs too; I always feel they're too fantasy-esque and real people wouldn't wear those kinds of clothes. lol

Yoosung's is actually the easiest route. So it's hard to mess up there. But having to wake up at 5AM for those good conversations is a pain.
