Let it Snow!!

A few days after Skyclan had come to stay with Riverclan, a thin sheet of paper white, powdery snow had fallen. ElkKit had gained enough courage to explore the camp, but not enough to actually speak with a Riverclan cat. Today it was a cold, brisk morning and ElkKit found himself rolling around in the frosty cold snow, not caring what other cats thought of him. He enjoyed it, and it helped it get some of the grime out of his long, messy fur. He thought that the day couldn't get any better.

"Hello!" Mewed Heronpaw. The she-cat had Elkkit pinned down, paws on his shoulders. She was practicing her pouncing skills. "You're a Skyclan cat, right?" She asked as she got off him. The snow felt cold under her paws- she enjoyed it. She examined the tom, recognizing him as Elkkit- he remembered the queens listing the Skyclan kits. She smiled, sitting down.

"Hi" ElkKit replied as he stumbled onto his paws, trying to find his balance. It took him a moment to look the stranger in the eyes. "My names ElkKit, and yes I am from Skyclan." He said shakily. "What's your name? Are you an apprentice?" he asked curiously, noticing that the she-cat was larger than him.

"Yes, I am an apprentice! Just made one yesterday!" She said proudly, giving her pelt a shake. "Nice name. I'm Heronpaw!"

"What's it like being an apprentice? Is it fun?" He asked inquisitively. "I want to be an apprentice, but I have to wait a few more moons before I even have a chance. It just seems like forever you know." he commented.

"Yeah, it was forever for me too. It's fun! You can learn how to hunt and- and fight!" She exclaimed. All she'd had so far was a tour of the territory- much had been taken by Windclan though. She had always enjoyed fighting, especially with her littermates.

Troutstep walked over to Heronkit and some SkyClan kit, sitting his rump on the chilly ground. "Your pelts must be cold." The deep voiced tom meowed giving his pelt a shake.

ElkKit turned to face the Riverclan warrior and replied. "No, I'm not cold. I quite enjoy the snow! It's so fun to play in!". As he stood up, one of his hind legs slipped and he fell on his stomach, giggling.

Heronpaw smiled at Troutstep. "Hi Troutstep! I'm fine! My fur isn't very long but it's thick!" She mewed, showing off her knowledge. She giggled at Elkkit.

Mapledrop padded out of the nursery, cautiously. She smiled when she saw her son. "Hello Elkkit." She purred and sat next to her son. She gently nudged the young Tom up and wrapped her thick fluffy dark red tail around him in a kind of cat hug.

ElkKit gladly accepted the warm invitation even though he quite enjoyed the cold frost that bit at his fur. "That's Heronpaw. She was just telling me what its like to be an apprentice." he explained. "She makes it seem like so much fun. I wish I could be an apprentice soon." He mewed.

"Hi Mapledrop!" Two light ginger twins called out and ran over towards their mothers friend, I guess you could call her their aunt, since Mapldrop and Sandfeather were as close as sisters. Fallenpaw reached her first being the fastest of the two twins. His green gaze landed on Elkkit and he smiled.

Rosepaw stopped beside her twin but when she saw Elkkit she gave a smile of delight to her "cousin." "Hi Elkkit! How's the Riverclan nursery treating you?" She purred licking the Tom of the cheek affectionately. She had recently became an apprentice right before Mapledrop gave birth, so she knew how hard it was to sleeping in the Riverclan nursery.

Firepaw glanced at the Skyclan cats cautiously. She didn't understand why they had to join Riverclan. Were they spies? Firepaw shrugged it off and padded over to Heronpaw. A small cough escaped her throat. Firepaw knew she was still sick but she didn't want it to show.
"Hey," she greeted hoarsely. She was a bit taller than Heronpaw but she liked the young she-cat.

"The nursery is nice, I haven't met everyone yet. I really want to explore outside, but I'm not an apprentice, so I can't." he said glumly. "I will be soon though." ElkKit said optimistically.

"Yes my son I know you'll be an apprentice soon. Don't remind me." Mapledrop meowed purring and then nuzzled her son. "But no matter what you'll always be my little baby." The dark red she cat meowed playfully.
