Snow Poffs

It was very difficult kitting in this stuffy, suffocating nursery that seemed to grow smaller and smaller by the second, making Flurryshine claustrophobic. It was even harder not having Hillfire by her side, or at the very least padding around in worry outside of the queens’ den. Would he have even cared that she was having her kits today now that he was gone? Would he never have the chance to see them, the two beautiful kits that now nuzzled close to her belly, searching through her thick snow-white fur for their first ever meal?

She shook her head with a soft sigh. What’s done is done, and she had to focus her attention on her two beautiful white kits. A tom and a she-kit. Palekit was the she-kit, with very faint stripes and blue eyes just like her father. And Icekit, the tom, had fluffy white fur and heterochromic blue and yellow eyes.

They were both perfect. If only they could have the chance to meet their biological father.

Well, at least they’d be able to see their adopted father. Ever since Hillfire’s banishment and Blazesong’s death, she had grown much closer to Aspenstrike, and he to her. She was now raising his kits as well, so in a way the both of them were both biological and adopted parents now.

Speaking of which, she could really see her new mate right about now. ”Aspenstrike? Are you out there?”

Aspenstrike had been worriedly pacing outside of the nursery. He was worried about Flurryshine. He knew she wasn't sick and everything should go smoothly... but that's what he thought about Blazesong. Hearing his mate's call, he stepped inside the nursery. His leaf-green eyes landed upon his mate and her two kits. One looked distinctly like Hillfire, while the other looked more like Flurryshine. He smiled, glad that everything had actually gone smoothly. "Mhm, I'm here. The kits are beautiful Flurryshine. That one looks almost just like you" His tail pointed to the pure white kit. "So. What will you name them?" He purred, seeing the kits. It brought him hope when there was so much darkness in the clans at this moment.



The white tom stumbled around. He was far from walking, but he felt the distinct need to learn his surroundings. He wanted to know where he was. He felt something furry directing him back towards the smell of his mother, and now he realized how hungry he was. He wriggled closer to his mother and began to eat. He liked this, this felt safe. Soon, he would be exploring once more by scent though.

Sootkit nuzzled into Flurryshines belly. "Mommy? How come you weren't with us when we were born?" He wondered. Where did she go when he was calling out for her? "Where you fighting bad cats?!" He asked exceedingly. He jumped over to her and put his paws on her forepaw and stood up all the way. "Pow pow!" He swatted at her muzzle.

Sunkit dozed curled up in her own little nest she made. She had built walls bigger than her and got very angry when anyone came crashing down on them. She rolled in her sleep and busted into a wall. She shot upright. "Hey! WHo did that?!"She said sneezing. She rubbed her runny nose with her forepaw, looking around wildy for anyone who might of broke her wall. Her had fur spiked up and all over the place.

The tiny she-kit was hungrily drinking her mother's milk beside her brother. She was very content were she was. It was comfortable and warm. A safe place to be. She couldn't help but snuggle a little into her brother's side. Some extra body heat never hurt.

Flurryshine's purr grew louder at the sight of her mate, and she blinked lovingly at him before looking down at her two newborns, resting her fluffy tail on each one's back as she addressed them: "The she-kit will be named Palekit, and her brother will be Icekit." She nudged them closer to the protection of her belly with a hind leg.

Looking down at her only adopted son, she smiled sweetly. "I was always there for you, Sootkit, even if you couldn't see me." She winced at the soft paw patting her nose, and she nuzzled his cheek affectionately, then pulled Sunkit closer to her with her tail so she could gently lap her tongue over her nose.

"Okay!"Sootkit smiled and jumped onto Aspenstrike. "AHH SHADOWCLAN WARRIOR!"He yelled and his climbed up Aspenstrike's flank onto his back. He postitioned himself in between his fathers shoulder blades. "Surrender!"He yelled and puffed.

"Hey!!"Sunkit squealed. "It hurts!"She pushed her adoptive mother away. Her nose was sore from her rubbing it. She watched as Sootkit hurled himself at Aspenstrike and she did the same. "SHADOWCLAN!!" She squealed hapily and she launched herself. She climbed up quicky and sat behind Sootkit and roared. "Attack Sootkit! Attack!" Her roar was high pitched of course. Being the size she was. She looked at the 2 other kits. 'Sleekkit should come play.' She thought. They were older than the 2 other kits so they would have to wait a few days untill they could rough house.

Aspenstrike's eyes softened as he saw his kits getting along with his new mate, and Flurryshine's newborn kits were beautiful. He couldn't help but begin purring quite loudly and laying down next to his mate. Oh, he loved his kits, and he loved Flurryshine's kits. They were all beautiful, each and every one of his new family. He licked the tops of each of the kits heads and then nuzzled his mate. He chuckled at Sunkit's fiery temper, already so much personality in each and every one of them! His eyes grew larger as he was attacked by his own kits. "Ahhh! Betrayal! From my own kin! How horrible!" He said this, barely disguising the laughter that was about to break out. He carefully shook off the kits, allowing them to get down without hurting themselves. They were still quite young. Even then, they were adorable. He chuckled as he watched them.

The dry, powdery dirt got on his long fur as he scooted closer to the newborns. He put his head over them, as he did this in a low voice he murmured to them both "Even if your true father isn't here, I will always be here for you." Directing his gaze to Icekit, he meowed "You are my adopted son-" turning his head to Palekit, he murmured again "And you are my adopted daughter. Both of you will grow up to be amazing warriors. I'm sure of it." Lifting his head, he directed his loving gaze to his mates dazzling green eyes. "We are one big family now-" an even larger smile came to his lips "You've helped fix the hole in me... when Blazesong died I was so horribly miserable, but then I saw you. It was as if I was meeting you again. Thank you..." He put his head to her head, and stood up. His leaf-green eyes looked over all of his kits again and began to leave. Before he did, he turned his head around one more time "Do you need any fresh-kill Flurryshine? I can get you some." His eyes were bright and filled with love, she really had made him whole again.



Icekit looked up, still blind and deaf. He scented an unknown cat, yet felt calm around him. He didn't want to hide from this cat. He just felt so immensely loved by this cat he just couldn't stay away. He tried tumbling closer to Aspenstrike but failed as the tail in his way halted his movements. His white fur blended seamlessly with Flurryshine's white tail. He snuggled under it, almost invisible to the naked eye.

An older kit had noticed the commotion in the nursery and he was curious. It had been a time since Flurryshine joined the den with the rest of the Queens and now she had her own kits. That meant more friends to play with! He and his siblings were no longer the youngest in the place! Berrykit left his adoptive mother side and approached the family with big curious eyes. However, he kept a moderate distance so he wouldn't bother the Queen. At least, that was what Finchstream told him to do. "Flurryshine! How did you make those kits? They're so small and cute!" He purred referring to Icekit and Palekit. The white one was almost imperceptible to the sight since he shared the same fur of his mother but it was clear he was there because he was moving.

The young queen watched on with nothing but pure love in her eyes and heart. Aspenstrike was so very good with her kits as well as his own. He was such a good tom. She was so lucky to have fallen in love with him. She pressed her muzzle into his with a purry sigh. "You've helped me, too, you know. It's thanks to you that my beloved kits now have a fatherly figure. I know you will be a perfect father to them." Her stomach rumbled at the mention of food, and her ears twitched sheepishly. "I would really appreciate a nice big fish, thank you."

All of a sudden, a new voice piped up, and Flurryshine recognized Berrykit looking over at her kits from a safe distance. She offered him a smile, truly grateful that he was considerate enough as to not crowd the newborn kits. How very mature for a kit, she admitted. "That, little one, is a conversation for when you are much older, I'm afraid. But yes, they are very sweet, aren't they? I can see you becoming very close friends with them both."

Acornkit, older than all the kits pushed pass Berrykit. "Outta the way!" Acornkit walked right up to Flurryshine. She had so many questions she would burst!(Sorry for short reply. Realized my Essay was due tmw.. Guess who hasn't done it yet!)

Aspenstrike's paws could be heard padding out of the den, off to get a good piece of prey for his mate. She had to keep up her strength, she was nursing the kits still. They had to grow up to be strong, and this would help them a little bit along the way. All he felt was pride in Flurryshine and her kits.



Despite being blind and deaf still, Icekit was quite the explorer. His head popped up as he smelled two new scents. Nothing like his mother or adopted father. Yet still similar in one way. He swiveled his head to face Berrykit, letting out a small noise. The newborn then went back to hiding under his mother's tail. He was a bit shy and didn't want to try getting closer. Then he turned and made his way back to his mother's stomach, allowing her warmth to envelope him. It felt great to him, it felt like home.

Sootkit watched his dad leave. "He doesn't wanna play." He frowned at sat next to Sunkit. 'H loves to play why won't he do it now?' he thought. He puffed up his fur and laid down, chilly air wafted into the nursery. He dug a little nest for him and Sunkit.

The youngest nursery queen gave Acornkit a friendly greeting boop on her tiny nose with her own, then turned to Sootkit and Sunkit. "He's just very busy right now, precious ones. He has to take care of me and your new brother and sister. But I'm certain he'll make time to play with you again soon."

Sunkit stood up, her fur spiked absolutely everywhere. "To the warrior den!!!" She ran out of the nursery, Sootkit on her heels. She ran into the warrior den. Sootkit took the lead and maneuvered his way around sleeping warriors. He kicked a feather in Sunkits face and laughed. Sunkit shook it off and cuffed him around the ear.

Acornkit wandered after them. 'Hide and Seek?!' She thought. She dashed into the warrior den and ran directly into Sunkits bum. Sunkit went flying forward and hit Sootkit. The force sent Soot kit flying into the wall.There was a little gap.. Big enough for a kit to squeeze out. Sootkit squealed as he slipped through it. The sun blinded his eyes as he tumbled down the small hill. He let out a wail and something hit his paw. He looked at his paw and it was twisted backwards. He let out a blood curdling cry and stumbled backwards. He tripped and fell more. Heading for the river.
