Being Bored

Bluepaw usually sat around camp now that her mentor and father were dead, along with her brother and her mother. The only thing... or being... keeping big her sane was Marshpaw. The blue-gray she-cat stared into space, blue eyes dull. She hadn't been able to find a replacement mentor and she didn't know what to do. With slumped shoulders, she shuffled over to the prey pile then shook her head. She couldn't eat... she had to hunt... but she was just too tired to do so at that moment. She made a promise to herself that she would go out hunting at Sun-high. Bluepaw felt hunger stab at her stomach. She ignore it and laid down sadly.

Spottedstar looked over at the mentorless apprentice, and huffed. No warrior had taken her over themselves nor was the she-cat eating. She heard of the fight between her daughter and her old apprentice and had kept an eye on her for a little. Was she trying to prove herself? Had she even had battle training yet? Walking over to the she-cat she picked up a squirrel and put it in front of Bluepaw. "Eat, now, you haven't eaten in awhile."

Bluepaw looked up at Spottedstar with sad eyes. She let out a sigh.
"But I haven't hunted yet," she said and looked at the squirrel hungrily. She was at war with herself for a moment. She should obey her leader, but she hasn't fed the clan. But she did need strength to hunt... then she looked at Spottedstar again and decided to obey. She would still go hunt.
"Thank you," she murmured, and she began to eat slowly, savoring it. Then she realized Spottedstar was there and she regained her manners.
"Uh, do you want to share?" she offered.

Spottedstar shook her head "I'm to wait for others to eat first before myself, I will hunt for them and once they are full I will eat also." She looked at the slowly decreasing freshkill pile and gave a frown. So many cats to feed and so little prey.

Bluepaw nodded with agreement.
"I was gonna go hunting... D-do you want to join me?" she asked.

" I will gladly go, first finish your food." she mewed, stretching herself and scraping her claws in the dirt. It had been awhile since she had gone out and hunted. But with the coming prey shortage she had to help out now, no matter how busy she was.

Bluepaw gave the leader a big smile then gulped down the rest of the squirrel eagerly. She had never been hunting with Spottedstar before and she was determined to show how good she'd been doing, even with the loss of her mentor. However, Bluepaw had a bad nose. She never could scent as good as the other cats. But she used a way to hunt... listening instead of scenting.

Giving the apprentice a smirk, she padded out of the forest. Starting a small talk before they hunted, she decided to give a little info. "There is a reason I got my warrior name as it was. I was a great hunter and moved through the forest with grace, if I can so brag myself." she paused and continued. "It was Spottedfeather, and I remember Dewstar herself giving it to me, when she was deputy." frowning a little, she stared off and mumbled. "I miss her..."

Bluepaw looked at Spottedstar with awe.
"Really?" Bluepaw mewed," that's cool! I've never been a great hunter to be honest... I can't smell correctly," Bluepaw admitted.

"Well maybe you knocked into something or just don't know scents." she mewed, and then stopped and crouched. There was the small scent of squirrel and she looked to Bluepaw. "Try."

Bluepaw looked at Spottedstar nervously. Bluepaw slowly opened her jaws and let the scents flood into her mouth. Her ears pricked up, swiveling around. She tried to smell something but everything just melded together. The birds above her cooed loudly and she listened to how they were calling. Then she heard the most distant rustle, bigger than a mouse, but smaller than a bird or vole. Squirrel. Bluepaw closed her jaws.
"I... smell," Bluepaw lied quietly," squirrel..."

Bluepaw hesitated and had a look of confusion. Deciding to test the apprentice more she asked another question. "What does it smell like then."

Bluepaw looked at Spottedstar and wished she could vanish.
"Uh..." Bluepaw shrunk down," I-I don't know..." She admitted.

She sighed a little, and then stalked forward with the squirrel not in sight yet but knew its location through sound and smell. Bunching her leg muscles and pounced over a small brush and landed straight on the squirrel. Giving a quick kill bite she brought it to the apprentice. "Smell, deep breaths."

"But I cant," Bluepaw replied sadly. She opened her jaws. She could smell the squirrel but couldn't decipher it's specific smell from the rest of the forest.
